TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) -- A Florida judge is blocking a new state law that requires women to wait 24 hours before getting an abortion.
Chief Circuit Judge Charles Francis on Tuesday blocked the law one day before it was scheduled to take effect.
The American Civil Liberties Union of Florida and the Center for Reproductive Rights filed a lawsuit after Republican Gov. Rick Scott signed it into law. They argued that the law violates the right to privacy guaranteed in the state constitution by interfering with the right of women to undergo the procedure.
Francis wrote that state officials had not given any evidence to show why the new law is not a burden on privacy rights. He said it did not matter that other states have a similar law since Florida's right of privacy is broader.

Any preferences on laptop brands?
My husband's laptop keeps crashing even with a clean installation of Windows 7, all new drivers, nothing else loaded. We pretty much convinced it's a hardware issue - on a 4-5 year old computer bought refurbished, and used heavily for four years, that's not too surprising.
This week lots of places have computers on sale. I'm looking at some Toshiba Satellite C70 series laptops that with the sale prices are under $400. They all have 17.3" screens (something my husband would be thrilled to have), 6-8GB RAM, and 500-750GB hard drives. Two are AMD, one is Intel.
The price seems good and the reviews are pretty good.
Any other brands I should check out?
Judge STARTS the hearing with calling shooter's family victims
No link - just now live.
Wow - NAACP President Cornell Brooks just gave a GREAT speech
Saying that it was not just a lone shooter, it was a domestic terrorist.
(He also said that the shooter asked for Rev. Clementa Pinckney by name - which raises this in my opinion to an assassination as well as a hate crime.)
No link or video, but I expect video of the speech will be online soon. It's worth watching.
Fresh installation of Windows 7 on an Acer laptop
Restoring the computer to the factory conditions failed - I got a copy of the Windows 7 DVD from a friend to match the Windows key on the computer. So my plan was to install a completely fresh, unencumbered copy of Windows.
But I didn't wipe out the hidden recovery partition where the system restore is supposed to be. I don't see that I need to keep that partition - the recovery files were corrupted or damaged so they wouldn't either repair or restore the OS. And now that I have Windows on DVD to use for this system, I don't see that I would need to recover the system using a recovery partition in the future.
Plus, when I boot the computer, it seems to see two copies of Windows 7 and wants me to select between them on every boot. At this point, I think I need to start over, reformat the hard drive completely and reinstall Windows from scratch. I've only installed a few drivers so far, so there wouldn't be much lost by starting over.
Does this sound like a good plan?
