Shadow War in the Sahara 'War on terror' or competition for natural resources?

A look at the US and French military presence in Africa.

Africa remains a key territory on the global chessboard of the 21st century. Rich in oil and natural resources, the continent holds a strategic position.

Sub-Saharan Africa is home to six of the world's 10 fastest growing economies. North Africa counts with vast oil and natural gas deposits, the Sahara holds the most strategic nuclear ore, and resources like coltan, gold, copper among many others are abundant in the continent.

Whoever controls Mali, controls West Africa, if not the whole of Africa.
Doulaye Konate, Association of African Historians

But despite its position and resources, conflict and chaos have spread throughout the continent. At the heart of this turmoil is a strategic territory: the Sahel.
The region that straddles the Sahara to the north and the savannas in the south has become an important new front in the so-called war against terrorism.

But is the official narrative, the fight against terrorism, masking a larger battle? Have the resource wars of the 21st century already begun?

"What we are currently experiencing can be described as 'a new scramble for Africa'," says Jean Batou, Professor of History at Lausanne University.

Ok, kiddies...time to learn some new geography.

Edited to add:
The United States is the only country to have divided the world into separate military sectors to monitor and patrol, NORTHCOM, PACOM, SOUTHCOM, EUCOM, CENTCOM and now AFRICOM.

Mat Taibbi wrote a great piece on Trump couple of days ago

and the cover pic is something to be saved, too.

The Fury and Failure of Donald Trump
Win, lose or drop out, the Republican nominee has laid waste to the American political system. On the trail for the last gasp of the ugliest campaign in our nation's history.
........Trump had been scheduled to come here today, to kiss defenseless babies ........

Hot damn!!!!! Wells Fargo CEO, John Stumpf, is leaving, effective immediately.

Call it retirement, call it forced out, what ever
but the best news is...
"Wells Fargo spokesman says 'no severance payment or agreement related' to John Stumpf's departure"

3 cheers to Elizabeth Warren!!!!! She got more done in a couple of months about this guy than the entire Bush pResidency did about any of the banks.

Stumpf's departure comes just two weeks after lawmakers, most notably Sen. Elizabeth Warren, called for the CEO's resignation. Lawmakers had also pushed for splitting of the chairman and CEO roles.

Warren also called for a criminal investigation of Stumpf, claiming that both the Department of Justice and Securities and Exchange Commission should look into whether the CEO knowingly misled investors by not disclosing the opening of the fake accounts in financial statements. In an interview with CNBC following the news, newly-appointed CEO Tim Sloan said he was not aware of any criminal investigations of Stumpf.

FBI is Trying to Break into Another Terrorist’s iPhone

At a press conference in St. Cloud, Minnesota today, FBI special agent Rich Thorton said that the FBI has obtained the iPhone of Dahir Adan, who stabbed 10 people in a Minnesota mall before a police officer shot and killed him. (The fundamentalist militant organization ISIS claimed credit for the attack via social media.) As in Farook’s case, the attacker’s phone is locked with a passcode. And Thorton said the FBI is still trying to figure out how to gain access to the phone’s contents.

“Dahir Adan’s iPhone is locked,” Thornton told reporters, “We are in the process of assessing our legal and technical options to gain access to this device and the data it may contain.”

Thornton didn’t say in the press conference what model iPhone Adan owned or what operating system the device ran. Both are key factors in whether the FBI will be able to get past its security measures. That’s because beginning with iOS 8 in 2014, iPhones and iPads have been encrypted such that not even Apple can decrypt the device’s contents, even when police or FBI serve a warrant to the company demanding its help.

Here is how to save a fortune in prescription drug costs. It DOES work.

By now most everyone knows that drug prices can vary widely even in the same area.

I have to take a prescribed drug that costs anywhere from $250 to $600.00 per month, for 30 pills, depending on where in town I buy it.

$850 to $1220 for 90 days.

And I have NO drug insurance.

Last month I got 30 day generic supply for 21.49.
and a 90 day supply at another store for 35.00

I used a online coupon from goodrx.com
Just printed it out and much to my surprise 2 different pharmacies accepted it.

Tomorrow I refill the 30 day script for 21.49.

Goodrx is not the only source for cheap drugs.

rxoutreach.org also can get me the drug ( via mail) for the same cheap prices. I have not tried them yet,
BUT
they are approved by the VIPPS Accredited Pharmacy list
https://nabp.pharmacy/programs/vipps/vipps-accredited-pharmacies-list/

rxoutreach.org requires some information, like income, you can punch that in the landing page to see if you qualify, before giving them any other info.
Their income limits are fairly high, so most people should qualify.

Using these coupons are sometimes cheaper than any insurance co-pay or deductible.
You may want to plug in your meds and see what the coupon price is.
You may find putting in your location gives a better price, but you can use the coupon without entering your zip code.
