"All the gays are going extinct", according to Pat Robertson, candidate for the 2014 DUH award.

"You know, those who are homosexual will die out because they don’t reproduce,” the TV preacher opined.
“You know, you have to have heterosexual sex to reproduce.”

The Palin Babble award for December goes to..........Rubio, for this contribution:

From Juaita Jean:

Marco Rubio is covering all his bases betting on an afterlife. He hasn’t been Jewish yet but it’s not for a lack of trying.

While growing up initially Catholic, Rubio then became a Mormon, then switched back to Catholicism, then became a Southern Baptist and a Catholic, then left the Baptists and simply became a Catholic, then he became a Baptist again, then a Catholic again, all the while technically remaining a Mormon.

and

he’s all hacked off at the Pope right now because Rubio says the Pope isn’t for “freedom.”

“I think the people of Cuba deserve the same chances to have democracy as the people of Argentina have had, where he comes from; as the people of Italy have, where he now lives. Obviously the Vatican’s its own state, but very nearby. My point is I hope that people with that sort of prestige on the world stage will take up the cause of freedom and democracy.”

Why I Make Terrible Decisions, or, poverty thoughts

In answer to the question Why do poor people do things that seem so self-destructive?
the writer shared this.
She ended up writing a blog which ended up being a book, titled Hand to Mouth Living in Bootstrap America. Her name is Linda Tarado.
I recommend it.

Here is her essay, from her blog, on why poor people puzzle the hell out of non-poor people:

Rest is a luxury for the rich. I get up at 6AM, go to school (I have a full courseload, but I only have to go to two in-person classes) then work, then I get the kids, then I pick up my husband, then I have half an hour to change and go to Job 2. I get home from that at around 1230AM, then I have the rest of my classes and work to tend to. I'm in bed by 3. This isn't every day, I have two days off a week from each of my obligations. I use that time to clean the house and soothe Mr. Martini and see the kids for longer than an hour and catch up on schoolwork. Those nights I'm in bed by midnight, but if I go to bed too early I won't be able to stay up the other nights because I'll fuck my pattern up, and I drive an hour home from Job 2 so I can't afford to be sleepy. I never get a day off from work unless I am fairly sick. It doesn't leave you much room to think about what you are doing, only to attend to the next thing and the next. Planning isn't in the mix.

THIS is what the CRomnibus bill will do to us:

1. greatly increases the donation limits for party committees
2. It cuts $60 million from the EPA
3. Cuts IRS budget, when the IRS needs to focus on Obama Healthcare plan.
4. Cuts pension benefits to current retirees, reversing a 40-year bond with workers who earned their retirement packages.
5. Trucking companies can make roads less safe by giving their employees 82-hour work weeks without sufficient rest breaks.
6. Cuts Pell grants for college students,, with the money diverted to private student loan contractors who have actively harmed borrowers.
7. Allows “backdoor” searches by the NSA of Americans’ private communications, formerly that was illegal.

More....much much more:

Want to really know how that watered down bank reform got in the CRomnibus? Here's the ugly truth.

Long piece, but essentially says Centrist Dems. voted for it, liberal Dems were ignored, and not very many Dems even knew what was in the bill.
Reid was in over his head, and it was a Dem. congressman, formerly a Goldman Sachs guy, who wrote the key giveaways.

"First of all, it’s worth mentioning that the CRomnibus was a horrible bill even without weakening Dodd-Frank. It was loaded with favors to wealthy and well-connected special interests, and its very existence, as a must-pass, short-term budget bill larded up with unrelated policy riders that will last forever,
sets a dangerous precedent for the future."

Kmart Ruins Christmas By Canceling Layaway Orders, Holding Onto Refunds

There’s an unhappy wind blowing toward Kmart right now, and it’s coming from the direction of disgruntled customers who say that after the retailer notified them of a Dec. 14 deadline to pay off layaway balances in order to have their items delivered by Christmas, the retailer has been canceling orders left and right, saying items are “out of stock.” Not only that, but some shoppers say they’ve been told their refunds won’t arrive until after it’s too late to buy new Christmas presents to replace the canceled layaway items.

An update is here:
Kmart Apologizes For Layaway Debacle, Says Some Cancellations Were “Inadvertent”

My heart goes out to cash strapped families who have no other funds to make up the lost items.

Seems as if Sears is trying to run itself into the ground...
maybe all those store locations have a high real estate value?

U.S. Bank, Bank of America sued over mortgage securities

Hmmm..no happy dance icon...drats.

The endless trail of karma....

The other end of the mortgage fraud is hitting banks, esp. BOA...
all those worthless mortgage bonds that were sold into trusts and pensions plans, have come back to bite the banks.

The U.S. credit union regulator said on Wednesday it filed a lawsuit against U.S. Bank and Bank of America over mortgage securities sold in the years leading up to the financial crisis.

The National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) said the banks broke state and federal laws by failing their duties as trustees for 99 residential mortgage-backed securities trusts.

The banks sold $5.8 billion in securities to five corporate credit unions that later failed after the products lost value.
The regulator accused U.S. Bank and Bank of America of knowing about defects in the mortgage loans but not providing required notices to the investors.

Blackwater Lobbyist Will Manage the House Intelligence Committee

House Intelligence Committee, which oversees government intelligence operations and agencies, the changing of the guard means a lobbyist for Academi, the defense contractor formerly known as Blackwater, is now in charge.

Congressman Devin Nunes (R-CA), the incoming chairman of the Intelligence Committee when the House reconvenes in January, announced that Jeff Shockey will be the new Staff Director of the committee. As a paid representative of Academi, Shockey and his firm have earned $80,000 this year peddling influence on behalf of Academi.

In previous years, the House Intelligence Committee has investigated Blackwater over secret contracts with the Central Intelligence Agency. Now, the shoe is on the other foot. As Staff Director, the highest position on a committee for a staff member, Shockey will oversee the agencies that do business with his former employer.

Shockey also represents a number of other companies with business before defense agencies: General Dynamics, Koch Industries, Northrop Grumman, United Launch Alliance, Innovative Defense Technologies and Boeing.
