A message from Hillary:

I've been heartbroken and horrified to read the news of children at the border being detained in appalling conditions.

No soap, no toothbrushes, no beds.

Not enough food, babies being forced to take care of babies, everyone sick.
There are amazing groups at the border and beyond doing critical work to defend the rights of immigrant and refugee children. If you can, please chip in to support a few of them today.

Pic of camps from a year ago

One year ago today I tweeted this; 12 months on we’re still arguing semantics. But no matter what we call them, these camps are wilfully cruel. On my Holocaust courses we study the role of bystanders who allowed evil to happen. Please, let’s learn from history...

Here is what you can do to help stop the inhumane treatment of the immigrants

How it got so awful was b/c trump, and people like Miller, decided to legally treat immigrants as CRIMINALS
because the criminal codes do not allow arrested parents to be locked up with their kids.
( separating children from their parents is a recognized ACT of genocide)

But kids being locked up with other kids is fine, apparently. Border Patrol is giving infants and toddlers to locked up kids, some as young as 8 ,who have been told to take care of the smaller ones. No diapers, no baby food, no laundry, kids have been in same clothes for weeks.
The law sez Border Patrol can only hold prisoners for....72 hours.. that's 3 days...but adults and children are telling lawyers they have been locked up, packed in overcrowded cells like sardines, no room to lie or sit down, with inadequate food, water, for weeks.

So here is how to help.

1. Donate to Raices, at https://www.raicestexas.org/ They are in Texas, working hard to protect the immigrants.
Also you can check them out on twitter: https://twitter.com/RAICESTEXAS

2. Donate to ACLU, which has really stepped up, filing lawsuits to stop these unconstitutional acts.

3. Contact your Congressperson, even if they are not Dems.
Leave voicemail, leave twitter mail, use Facebook, and tell your friends, etc to do same.
Reason is....trump supporting Repubs are beginning to get jumpy, with re-election coming up.
Congress member, state and national, DO pay attention to how many calls, etc they get on an issue.
their office keeps totals pro and con.
Here's where to find them: https://www.usa.gov/elected-officials

No use donating things, BP will not take them.

ICE raids are instruments of domestic terror.

During the raid times:
Reach out to the immigrant rights org in your city and check in to see what they are doing. Also churches, the good ones will be involved already.
Ask your Mayor and other elected reps to tell ICE they're not welcome in your town.
You can also protect your neighbor if you see ICE taking them away.

Pls. read/follow this twittersite https://twitter.com/hashtag/ProtectEachOther?src=hash

Share other ideas here, pls.

ICE Raids are expected to start on Sunday in these cities:

Miami - Atlanta - Chicago - Baltimore - Denver - Houston - Los Angeles - New Orleans -
. New York City, - San Francisco

according to RAICES,

the largest immigration legal services non-profit in Texas, focusing on under-served immigrant children, families & refugees.

Does this trump comment look threatening to you????

On Twitter last weekend, Trump pondered, “do you think the people would demand that I stay longer?” The line mirrored language he used at a rally in Pennsylvania last month where he talked about living in the White House for 20 years.

“We ran one time and we’re 1-and-0. But it was for the big one. Now we’re going to have a second time. And we’re going to have another one. And then we’ll drive them crazy,” Trump said. “And maybe if we really like it a lot — and if things keep going like they’re going — we’ll go and we’ll do what we have to do. We’ll do a three and a four and a five.”

These are the Eight Stages of Genocide

According to the U.N., Dr. George Stanton of the Department of State first outlined the stages of genocide in 1996.
Recognizing and being aware of stages of genocide are imperative for its prevention.
The first six stages are considered the warning signs, and if governments wish to successfully prevent genocide, they must act during the first six stages.

1. Classification
Classification refers to a division of the population into racial, religious and ethnic divisions.
In Rwanda, the population was divided into Tutsi and Hutu, an ethnic divide in which the Tutsi were considered nobility. The stark divide between culture and ethnicity in Rwanda created an environment prone to conflict.

According to Genocide Watch, recognizing this, finding and closing the divide is a successful preventative to genocide.

2. Symbolization
Symbolization refers to labeling the classified group. The groups dividing society are identified by a certain name, language, type of dress, uniforms or religious symbol. In Cambodia‘s Khmer Rouge, people from the Eastern Zone were required to wear blue scarfs. Similarly, Nazi Germany required Jews to wear a yellow star. The symbolization of a certain ethnicity, race or religion easily and visibly differentiates that group, and the gap between two groups widens.

3. Dehumanization
Dehumanization, as the word suggests, is a process by which a particular group is marked as sub-human. This includes describing them as animals, Which is what Trump has done!!!
or disease. The process of dehumanization often involves negative propaganda campaigns. The U.N. provides the example that a Rwandan newspaper labeled the Tutsis as “cockroaches.” Currently, the Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar are referred to as illegal immigrants and many government leaders refuse to recognize even the existence of the Rohingya.

The process of dehumanization allows the government to violate the human rights of the targeted group without the widespread criticism of the country’s people, just as long as the propaganda efforts are successful.

4. Organization
Organization refers to the planning of action, as genocide requires both collective action and group identification. In the case of Nazi Germany, the Nazi’s created a “final solution.”
However, the level of organization differs by group. For Nazi Germany, the genocide was highly bureaucratic. Genocide also argues that states employ militias, such as the Janjaweed in Darfur and Interahamwe in Rwanda, in order to avoid blame.
Remember that trump wants to have the military work with Border Patrol against the immigrants.
AND
is moving some of the prisoners to a military base, Ft. Sill, where inspections and aid will be extremely difficult.

5. Polarization
In the polarization stage, groups are further driven apart by extremists. Those who did not participate in the previous stages are forced to separate themselves from the targeted group through intimidation by extremists. The U.N. cites Kristalnacht, when hundreds of synagogues were burned in 1938, as an example.
In this stage, Dr. Stanton argues, moderates are key to preventing the furtherance of genocide. Involvement of outside groups would include providing security for these moderates and combating the extremists.

6. Preparation
In preparation, further planning takes place. For instance, “death lists” are created or people are segregated into camps.**At these camps, the targeted groups are subjected to starvation and disease, mimicking the consequences of extreme poverty. ]Weapons are stored and, as the U.N. states, death camps are built.
In this stage, Stanton recommends international military intervention but notes this only occurs if there is significant political will. In many instances, intervention, if any, only occurs during the extermination stage.

7. Extermination
The extermination stage is the final act of genocide. In Rwanda, almost 1 million moderate Hutus and Tutsis were killed in 100 days. During the Holocaust, five to six million Jews were killed. The Khmer Rouge killed nearly 2 million people in Cambodia. According to the UN, there have been over 70 million deaths due to genocide and policies since its founding.
These numbers evidence the importance of prevention in the first six stages of genocide.
The willingness to intervene and political will must overcome doubts or fear of political costs

8. Denial
In the final stage, the perpetrators attempt to cover up their crimes or refer to reports of genocide as overstated. In some cases, those who violated the human rights of another group refer to the conflict as a “civil war.”
The failure of international crime tribunals or individual nations to refuse to recognize the denial perpetuates future genocides. Hitler justified his extermination of the Jews by referring to the unpunished Armenian genocide.

In many cases, those who are not subjected to direct violence by the perpetrators of violence are victims of extreme poverty, as their economic prospects are extremely limited by government abuses and bias.
The key to preventing further genocides is to both punish perpetrators after they occur and intervene as the initial stages are occurring. However, this requires the political will to combat human rights abuses before violence and “extermination.”
https://borgenproject.org/eight-stages-of-genocide/

We are seeing some of these stages now, as I have been pointing out in previous posts.
Note: As in Kubler-Ross' 6 stages of grief, the first 6 stages above can be a bit fluid, for instance, Trump was calling Hispanic immigrants "animals" from the beginning of his attacks on them.
I am also reading that BP guards are calling the incarcerated prisoners "bodies", which scares me, because of the implications.

.**At these camps, the targeted groups are subjected to starvation and disease,:

Disease:

OFFICE OF INSPECTOR GENERAL, Department of Homeland Security Report of May 30, 2019:
We found dangerous overcrowding at the facility with single adults held in cells
designed for one-fifth as many detainees...Border Patrol agents told us some of the detainees had been held in standing-room-only conditions for days or weeks.....With limited access to showers and clean clothing,
detainees were wearing soiled clothing for days or weeks

....
The detention of thousands of migrant children in U.S. government facilities — 2,047 according to an HHS estimate this Tuesday, though as many as 5,000 in Texas alone per another report — has the potential to result in widespread illnesses.
Why it matters: large-scale detention of individuals, especially children, under conditions of crowding and emotional stress has historically been linked with infectious disease outbreaks.

Sexual Assault Of Detained Migrant Children Reported In The Thousands Since 2015

In each of the past four years, 1,000 or more immigrant children who arrived at the southern U.S. border without their parents have reported being sexually abused while in government custody, according to federal records released Tuesday.

The data from the Department of Health and Human Services was made public by Rep. Ted Deutch, D-Fla., before a congressional hearing on the Trump administration's policy of separating migrant families.
Deutch said the government's 135 migrant shelters are "an unsafe environment."
"Together these documents detail an environment of systemic sexual assault by staff on unaccompanied children," he said.

"The federal Office of Refugee Resettlement, which is in charge of caring for under-age immigrants, received more than 4,500 allegations of sexual abuse and sexual harassment between 2015 and 2018. The reporting begins under the Obama administration. Of those complaints, some 1,300 were serious enough to refer to the FBI, but an official says 'the vast majority' proved to be unfounded.

Thousands petition Netflix !! to cancel Amazon Prime's Good Omens

More than 20,000 Christians have signed a petition calling for the cancellation of Good Omens, the television series adapted from Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman’s 1990 fantasy novel – unfortunately addressing their petition to Netflix when the series is made by Amazon Prime.

The six-part series was released last month, starring David Tennant as the demon Crowley and Michael Sheen as the angel Aziraphale, who collaborate to prevent the coming of the antichrist and an imminent apocalypse. Pratchett’s last request to Gaiman before he died was that he adapt the novel they wrote together; Gaiman wrote the screenplay and worked as showrunner on the BBC/Amazon co-production, which the Radio Times called “a devilishly funny love letter to the book”.
But Christians marshalled by the Return to Order campaign, an offshoot of the US Foundation for a Christian Civilisation, disagree. More than 20,000 supporters have signed a petition in which they say that Good Omens is “another step to make satanism appear normal, light and acceptable”, and “mocks God’s wisdom”. God, they complain, is “voiced by a woman” – Frances McDormand – the antichrist is a “normal kid” and, most importantly, “this type of video makes light of Truth, Error, Good and Evil, and destroys the barriers of horror that society still has for the devil”. They are calling on Netflix to cancel the show.

Gaiman responded to the petition on Twitter, writing: “I love that they are going to write to Netflix to try and get #GoodOmens cancelled. Says it all really. This is so beautiful ... Promise me you won’t tell them?”
