Jeb has apparently announced his foreign policy ideas.

As Jaunita Jean, the smart capable successor to our dear departed Molly Ivins, puts it:

"Jeb Bush says we need a foreign policy with fewer big words.
Bush continued, “Big syllable words and lots of fancy conferences and meetings and – We’re not leading. That creates chaos.
It creates a more dangerous world.

“This guy — this president and Secretary Clinton and Secretary Kerry – when someone disagrees with their nuanced approach where
it’s all kind of so sophisticated it makes no sense. You know what I’m saying?”

Yeah, right, nuanced makes no sense. This world is black and white and all those other colors make no sense.
The smart one.

Got a house with A/C ? Gonna get a LOT more expensive.

Had to call our A/C guy when the cold air stopped yesterday.
He filled it with what ever the new "freon" stuff is.
Normal procedure around here, usually I have them come out in the fall and do a checkup.
Now, this is an experienced, smart young man, who just went into business for himself. I have known him for several years.
He told me that whatever it is they use for the new "freon" stuff,( I can't remember the name of it)
is going to be phased out in the next couple years, and nothing will replace it.Gov't has banned it.
He says when our A/C units run out of cooling, they will have to replace the units, and this is gonna be expensive.
He said he had stocked up on this stuff, to the tune of many $1,000, but when it is gone, there will be no more.

I wasn't sure about that, so mentioned it to a friend in Texas, who just told me yes, that is why she had to buy a new unit last year.

anybody hear anything about this?

1st chapter of Go Set A Watchman by Harper Lee published in the Guardian

Her description of "Maycomb and Maycomb County" are accurate, and she uses real names in listing the towns on the railroad line, except for Maycomb of course.

Pls.keep kicked for the day shift....

FBI says.....believe us when we tell you this..........

We warned about July 4th attacks, but gave no details or information beyond "credible information".

Now we are telling you we thwarted those attacks but we are not giving any details.

And we need phones and puters to be unencrypted so we can catch more terrorists.

That is all.

Can KKK 'adopt a highway'? Appellate court to take up matter

ATLANTA (AP)
The Georgia Court of Appeals set to hear arguments over the state's refusal to let a Ku Klux Klan group participate in a highway cleanup program.

The north Georgia KKK group's application for the Adopt-A-Highway program was denied in 2012. The American Civil Liberties Union Foundation sued on the group's behalf, saying its right to free speech was violated. In November, a judge ruled in the organization's favor, saying it could adopt a stretch of highway and that the state gave the KKK scrutiny not applied to other groups.

The state has appealed and wants the ruling reversed.
In denying the application, the state said promoting an organization with a history of inciting unrest could negatively affect quality of life and economic development in Georgia.

Whites now a minority in California, New Mexico and Hawaii.

As of July 1, 2014, the state had about 15 million Latinos to about 14.9 million non-Hispanic whites.

Demographers had expected the shift for decades as the state's Hispanic population boomed due to immigration and birth rates. Many thought it would happen sooner than it did, but a slight decline in population pushed it to last year.

California joins New Mexico as the second state with a Latino plurality. Hawaii, with its large Asian population, is the third state where whites aren't the largest ethnic group.

Memphis begins effort to remove Nathan Bedford Forrest monument and grave

the City of Memphis is considering removing from a public park not just a monument dedicated to Confederate Gen. Nathan Bedford Forrest, but also his grave.

Snip:
Forrest was known for his tactics and leadership as a cavalry leader, and for his horsemanship. He surrendered his forces May 9, 1865, in Gainesville, Ala., on the banks of the Tombigbee River. He had some association with the early Ku Klux Klan.

Many municipalities are considering removing Confederate monuments in the wake of the Charleston race-based attack.
Birmingham Al. is among them.

Gun-shaped iPhone case an 'idiot invention,' police say

I have to agree.

A new iPhone case that looks like a handgun is being blasted by lawmen nationwide as stupid, dangerous and irresponsible. The grip cases range in price from $10 to $50, and come in white, pink and black.

Critics say there's a good possibility the cases will be mistaken as a real gun, and a misunderstanding could quickly turn deadly. To make matters worse, there's an app that produces a screen image that allows the user to align the sight

Fox Is Planning to Make Movie About Same-Sex Marriage Ruling

LOS ANGELES — With an eye toward the mainstream success of gay-themed films like “Philadelphia,” 20th Century Fox has secured the rights to make a movie about the Supreme Court case that effectively legalized same-sex marriage.

Fox said Tuesday that it had bought the life rights of Jim Obergefell, the lead plaintiff in a lawsuit that last month resulted in recognition of the right to same-sex marriage in the United States. His lawyer, Al Gerhardstein, sold his life rights as well.

It will be non-fiction for sure.

Yay!!! The medical monopoly of too high prices is under attack.

The Surgery Center of Oklahoma put this in stark relief when they showed up on the scene, offering no-insurance, flat-priced common operations where the price is known before the procedure is undertaken and typically winds up costing 80% less than a hospital charges for the same procedure -- with no surprises.

Now we have Theranos, which has taken advantage of a new Arizona law that allows any person to order their own tests without doctor involvement, reading or gate-keeping. In other words your tests are your tests, as are the records (and results) of same. And their prices?

Anyone can walk into these Wellness Centers at convenient hours and get accurate, rapid lab testing with transparent prices that are always at least 50-80% below Medicare reimbursement rates.
