dixiegrrrrl's JournalKarma train hits Bank of America.....
A lovely list of growing investigations points to BOA's many transgressions.
Let us count the ways:
1. The U.S. Attorneys Office for the Eastern District of New York, based in Brooklyn, is investigating its compliance
with the Federal Housing Administrations direct endorsement program.
(Has to do with getting get government-backed insurance for mortgages that didnt deserve it).
2. facing the prospect of paying penalties and reimbursing consumers over its sale and marketing of certain credit-card debt-cancellation products.
3. government authorities in North America, Europe and Asia are examining its participation in foreign-exchange
markets.
4. the bank is being sued by Prudential Insurance Company of America related to mortgage-backed bonds that the
bank sold in the run-up to the financial crisis. ( the bonds were touted as good, but were full of bad mortgages)
5. the European Commission is laying the groundwork to fine it and other banks, accusing them of breaking European
Union competition laws by allegedly colluding to prevent exchange-trading of credit-default swaps.
Bank of America said it now estimates it could have to spend up to $6.1 billion for legal expenses over and above current reserves, up from an estimate of $3.1 billion a year ago.

Poor poor BOA...my heart bleeds for it.
Updated list of all fracking sites. Is your state on the list?

2nd coldest Mardi Gras since 1874
Currently 39 degrees in New Orleans.
I'd be happy if it hit as high as 39 at my house, here in the "sunny South".
Top Ten US Aid Recipients All Practice Torture
The violators and degree of aid they are expected to receive are: 1. Israel $3.1bn, 2. Afghanistan $2.2bn, 3. Egypt $1.6bn, 4. Pakistan $1.2bn, 5. Nigeria $693m, 6. Jordan $671m, 7. Iraq $573m, 8. Kenya $564m, 9. Tanzania $553m, 10. Uganda -$456m
Each of the listed countries are accused of torturing people in the last year, and at least half are reported to be doing so on a massive scale.
Financial support for such governments could violate existing US law mandating that little or no funding be granted to a country that engages in a consistent pattern of gross violations of internationally recognized human rights, including torture.
The United States remains a signatory of the United Nations Convention against Torture, ratified in 1994. That the top ten recipients of US assistance all practice torture calls into serious question the Obama administrations overall stance on and understanding of fundamental human rights.

WH 2015 budget=$26.4 billion in extra funding for Pentagon
From Breaking news headline:
White House's fiscal 2015 budget request includes separate 'opportunity, growth and security' fund that would give the Pentagon $26.4 billion in extra funding for maintenance, training and aircraft - @Reuters
remember when the Pentagon claimed it had extra money lying around its "contingency fund" that it could use to invade Syria?
Apparently it wants...MORE.
"Russia is invading another country on completely trumped up pretext"
says John Kerry, on Meet the Press.
That's how you tell the difference between the good guys and the bad guys;
good guys don't invade on *trumped up pretexts*
Speaking of our crumbling infrastructure.....
Officials said there is no threat to the public from the crack in the Wanapum Dam, which is just down stream from where Interstate 90 crosses the river.
But utility managers are lowering water levels a total of 20 feet because they fear the structure otherwise could endanger inspectors trying to get a better handle on how seriously the dam is damaged.
At this point we already know theres a serious problem, said Thomas Stredwick, spokesman for the Grant County Public Utility District (PUD). We want to make sure the spillway is stable enough that inspectors are safe when inspecting it.

I hope they are keeping an eye on the Grand Coulée Dam.
Poor Ukraine...the IMF wants to help.
From Breaking News site:
MF chief Lagarde says discussing with international partners how best to help Ukraine bilaterally, multi-laterally - @Reuters
by now a lot of us know the playbook.
I said here, last summer, that events seem to be speeding up, almost as if TPTB are under pressure, in a hurry.
Was I the only one to notice this?
edited to add:
Another headline minutes ago:
In the past 3 years, $70 billion went out of Ukraine's financial system into offshore accounts, PM-designate Arseniy Yatsenyuk says - @Reuters

So that is FOUR JP Morgan bankers, all in their 30's, who have died since Dec. 15th.

First Christie, now Walker.....
Snip...Walkers (Presidential) prospects took a blow this week with the release of more than 27,000 emails held by his one-time deputy chief of staff, Kelly Rindfleisch.
One, forwarded from Walkers ex-chief of staff, Thomas Nardelli to Rindfleisch his deputy is a joke about an African American negro who discovers he is a minority in other ways. I can handle being a black, disabled, one armed, drug-addicted Jewish homosexual, the email says, but please, oh dear God, dont make me a Democrat.
Another, sent to Rindfleisch from someone outside Walkers staff, joked that welfare recipients were mixed in color, unemployed, lazy, cant speak English and have no frigging clue who the r [sic] Daddys [sic] are.
That is hilarious, Walkers deputy chief of staff replied. And so true!
The emails, which date back to 2010 when Walker was Milwaukee county executive, were part of huge tranche collated in an investigation into campaign financing which closed last year. Walker was not charged with any wrongdoing indeed, investigators said he was never the target but the inquiry did lead to convictions of six former aides, including Rindfleisch.
