Planned Parenthood Has Already Received 46,000 Donations From Mike Pence

Planned Parenthood has received nearly 200,000 donations since Donald Trump won the presidency — and more than 46,000 of those were made in the name of Indiana governor and noted uterine legislator Mike Pence.

The vice-president-elect, who has yet to prove that he understands how condoms work, is vehemently anti-abortion and has an abysmal record on women’s health. He has also waged a long-standing war against Planned Parenthood. To show their support of the organization (and piss Pence off at the same time), people have been donating to Planned Parenthood in his name since the election. Pence will get thank-you notes for each of the donations.

Based on data provided to the Cut by a spokesperson, 23 percent of the donations Planned Parenthood has received since the election have come from “Mike Pence.” On Tuesday, the figure was 12.5 percent, or 20,000 donations out of 160,000 total. It’s so nice that, for once, Pence’s name is being used to actually help women.

The FCC Just Caved in to Republican Demands That It Halt Work on Major Issues

The Federal Communications Commission has deleted every important item from Thursday’s monthly meeting after Republicans in Congress warned the agency not to move forward on any major issues before Donald Trump’s inauguration as president.

Over the last 24 hours, influential Republicans in both the Senate and the House sent letters to FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler essentially telling him to cease work on the remaining big-ticket items on his agenda.

“I strongly urge the FCC to avoid directing its attention and resources in the coming months to complex, partisan, or otherwise controversial items that the new Congress and new Administration will have an interest in reviewing,” wrote Sen. John Thune, the South Dakota Republican who chairs the Senate Commerce Committee.

The FCC’s move to delete several items from Thursday’s agenda amounts to an acknowledgement that Wheeler’s tenure as the nation’s top communications regulator, a period marked by a variety of pro-consumer reforms, is coming to an end. Trump will nominate a new FCC chairman after he is inaugurated on January 20.

Trump is expected to work with the Republican-controlled Congress to install FCC officials who will seek to dismantle current US rules safeguarding net neutrality.
The FCC’s recently approved policy bolstering online privacy for consumers is also at risk.

FBI Director James Comey accepts lifetime achievement award at dinner organized by nonprofit Federal Drug Agents Foundation; group's board includes 3 people with ties to Donald Trump.
Among them: the CEO of the company that publishes The National Enquirer, the developer of a Trump-branded tower in Toronto and a convicted felon whose company rates Trump businesses for luxury.

An FBI spokesman said the foundation provides disability, bereavement and personal crisis support to federal agents and educational and charitable grants.

President Obama: the federal government is looking for ways to reroute the Dakota Access pipeline

President Obama said Tuesday that the federal government is looking for ways to reroute the Dakota Access pipeline project, which has been paralyzed by weeks of demonstrations by environmentalists.

In an interview with MSNBC on Tuesday, Mr. Obama seemed to side with occupiers who want the pipeline rerouted or scrapped outright, citing opposition by Indian groups.

“We’re monitoring this closely, and you know I think that as a general rule my view is that there is a way for us to accommodate sacred lands of Native Americans,” Mr. Obama told MSNBC.

But Mr. Obama indicated that the federal government has no intention of stepping in, despite the threat to federal lands.

“We’re going to let it play out for several more weeks and then determine whether or not this can be resolved in a way that I think is properly attentive to traditions of the first Americans,” he said.
