Smothered Pork Chops

I'm making smothered pork chops with caramelized onions, mushrooms and french cut string beans for my lunches next week. Will they turn out better if I do them in my crock pot or my instant pot? Also, should I brown the chops first for the maillard reaction or just throw them in the cooking appliance?

If they do maintain control of the Senate, what are the odds of the Republicans deciding that McConnell is too toxic and choose someone else to be the majority leader? If they think that he could cost them seats in the mid-term they might decide that a more "moderate" Republican could serve them better.
