The typo says it all about these people, doesn't it? This is indeed a sick and twisted move by conservative ratf*&kers. It's too bad that Helene has been unwittingly used as a tool for tea party propaganda games when all she did was take a selfie after a bad hair day.
I wish she could sue the pants off of these people. If Obamacare is so horrible then why do conservatives have to lie so much about it?

Helene isn’t having the best week. The Texas blogger was visiting Las Vegas for a bachelorette party this past weekend, and woke up on Saturday to find that she’d become the latest anti-Obamacare poster child.
The thing is, Helene never signed up for the job.
In fact, she told me yesterday that she’s quite happy with the Affordable Care Act (ACA), and with the “affordable” health care it helped her find.
“Not only do I not agree with what the image is portraying,” Helene wrote me, “I actually have Affordable Healthcare!”
So, if anything, Helene is an Obamacare success story.
But that didn’t stop over 17,000 people on Facebook from sharing an image of her face, posted just days ago, with a caption complaining about Obamacare. To add insult to injury, the people who stole her image couldn’t even spell “conspiracy” right.

You might remember this picture from THIS POST when the guy at the hair salon dyed my hair way too dark and I was so upset I took a selfie mid cry. I also used the photo when I went through the different shades of my hair color throughout my hair dying years. Never did I imagine it would be swiped and used for propaganda.

Dr. Danielle Martin is the most articulate spokesperson for Obamacare to date. She likely does not even realize that she is. She did not allow misinformed Senator Richard Burr (R-NC) to spew lies without pushback. Moreover, she was knowledgeable in both Canadian and American healthcare. The problem is that she is a Canadian. Where are our American doctors speaking out like Dr. Danielle Martin in mass? Senator Richard Burr made a critical mistake. He believed the lies that the Right Wing spewed about the Canadian healthcare system. Dr. Danielle Martin civilly presented the facts which ultimately showed his ineptitude.
Dr. Danielle Martin corrected the misinformation by the senator and segued into why a single payer system was more effective. It was borne out not just on paper but in practice. It was corroborated by a detailed study. Senator Richard Burr moved on to ask why a particular elected Canadian official came to the US for a particular heart procedure. He wanted to imply that the American system was somehow superior. Maybe he should have done some research. Most countries in the industrialized world have better healthcare outcomes than the US. Dr. Danielle Martin had the perfect answer for the senator.

There are no doctors exiting the public system in Canada, and in fact we see a net influx of physicians from the United States into the Canadian system over the last number of years.
What I did say was that the solution to the wait time challenge that we have in Canada — we do have a difficult time with waits for elective medical procedures — does not lie in moving away from our single-payer system toward a multipayer system. And that’s borne out by the experience of Australia. So Australia used to have a single-tier system and did in the 1990s move toward a multiple-payer system where private insurance was permitted. And a very well-known study by Duckett, et al., tracked what took place in terms of wait times in Australia as the multipayer system was put in place.
And what they found was in those areas of Australia where private insurance was being taken up and utilized, waits in the public system became longer.

It’s actually interesting, because in fact the people who are the pioneers of that particular surgery, which Premier Williams had, and have the best health outcomes in the world for that surgery, are in Toronto, at the Peter Munk Cardiac Center, just down the street from where I work.
So what I say is that sometimes people have a perception, and I believe that actually this is fueled in part by media discourse, that going to where you pay more for something, that that necessarily makes it better, but it’s not actually borne out by the evidence on outcomes from that cardiac surgery or any other.

Conservatives are waging a vicious war against women across the country, and they’re using religion to do it. They say all politics begins at the local level. Apparently, the plague of sexism running rampant in GOP circles begins at church. Pastor Steven Anderson of Faithful Word Baptist Church in Arizona told female churchgoers to keep their mouths shut so that the men could teach them their place according to the Bible. During his Sunday sermon, Anderson mansplained that women should be silent in church and read two sexist Bible verses.
The first verse, 1 Timothy 2:11, says “Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection. But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.” The second verse is 1 Corinthians 14 which reads: “Let your women keep silence in the churches, for it is not permitted unto them to speak, as it is commanded to be under obedience as also sayeth the law. And if they will learn anything, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is shameful for women to speak in the church.” After reading the verses, Anderson flew into a sexist rant that included pounding his fist on the pulpit while forcefully ordering women to keep their mouths shut during “learning time.”
In other words, Anderson is saying that women aren’t allowed to speak up as long as the men are talking and trying to make them learn. Women apparently can’t even ask questions until they get home. Anderson even can’t handle women saying ‘amen’ during worship service and doesn’t want any woman to tell him her opinion. Why? Because he’s allegedly a man. And Anderson is the kind of “man” who believes women should be seen and not heard.

“This is why I don’t believe women should say ‘amen’ during the preaching either,” Anderson told his congregation. “Because ‘amen’ means ‘truly’ or ‘verily’ … it basically means ‘that’s true.’ So when I’m preaching and I say something that you agree with and that you believe in, and you say ‘amen,’ you’re saying ‘that’s true.’ So here’s the thing, when I’m preaching, women should not express their opinion, even if it’s a positive opinion, even if she agrees with me.”

We have veterans out there trying to get into the food stamp program. To me, what you’re looking at is an ugly kind of class warfare where the people on top want more and more and more, and they’re pushing down in an incredibly terrible way the most vulnerable people in our country.” Rev. Sanders ripped Republicans for claiming that the problem is that children get too much help from the federal government, “These are the same people who want to eliminate the estate tax, which applies to only the top three tenths of one percent of all Americans, which is the richest of the rich, then they are going after kids. The politics of this, Al, is what they are trying to do is deflect attention away from income and wealth inequality. Attention away from the fact that the rich are doing extraordinarily well, and tell their supporters that the real problem in America is that children are getting too much help from the federal government, and that’s the kind of mentality that we have got to fight back against.”
Sen. Sanders nailed it. This is a classic case of Republicans trying to blame the victims of their policies. Republicans crashed the economy, threw millions out of work, then blamed the unemployed, and their children for needing assistance. While the GOP tries to take the food out of the mouths of those who are struggling, the rich continue to get richer. The Koch brothers won’t have less money if children continue to get free school lunches. The issue is that the people at the very top continue to see their wealth grow while nearly everyone else is struggling to survive.
That’s the dirty little secret that Bernie Sanders exposed. Republicans refuse to limit themselves to encouraging the wealthy. They are on a mission to take everything away from everyone else, and give it to the rich. Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) has been leading this new smokescreen with a war against the poor that has been disguised as budget cuts and poverty studies.

Joe Scarborough says "humorless liberals" didn't get that he was joking when he interrupted his "Morning Joe" co-host Mika Brzezinski during a discussion of the missing Malaysia Airlines plane. During the show's first half hour on Monday, Brzezinski stepped in after a fair bit of theorizing about what happened to the plane to move the show's panelists off the missing jet story and onto the latest news from Ukraine instead.
Scarborough tweeted later Monday that he was "mocking" himself when he told Brzezinski to lower her voice -- just another example of the duo's signature banter. He also confirmed that he did not go to Pakistan on spring break (he was actually in Florida), in case that wasn't already clear to any "humorless liberals" watching.

Hillary Clinton has begun laying out foreign-policy positions that sound a more hard-line note on Iran, Russia and other global trouble spots than is coming from President Barack Obama, underscoring how she might differentiate herself from the administration she served, should she run for president. The former secretary of state this week voiced doubts that Iran would make good on an agreement that Mr. Obama hopes will curb that country's nuclear program in exchange for relief from sanctions. Mrs. Clinton, speaking to the American Jewish Congress in New York, said that she was "personally skeptical that the Iranians would follow through and deliver" on the nuclear deal reached last year.
She added that the deal was a "development worth testing," though she hinted that military action should remain a consideration if the agreement collapses. "Let's be clear. Every option does remain on the table," she said. In previous appearances recently, Mrs. Clinton drew parallels between the actions of Russian President Vladimir Putin in Ukraine and Adolf Hitler before the Second World War. Mrs. Clinton's remarks, coupled with a memoir she is writing, give her a chance to shape impressions of her four years as the nation's top diplomat and to blunt Republican claims that she was a partner in an ineffectual Obama foreign-policy operation. When it comes to foreign policy, Mrs. Clinton faces a delicate balancing act in the run-up to the 2016 presidential race.
Overtly criticizing Mr. Obama's foreign moves would make her appear disloyal. But at the same time, as secretary of state, she was not in lock step with the president on all issues, and she might want to draw distinctions about her own stances. In internal discussions about the Syrian civil war, for example, she had pushed unsuccessfully for lethal support to opposition forces, in addition to diplomatic efforts to end the conflict, a former colleague of hers said. The arming proposal was later backed by Mr. Obama. One image from 2009 could prove embarrassing for Mrs. Cilnton, now that U.S.-Russian tensions are escalating. Hillary Clinton TACKS RIGHT Of Obama On Foreign Policy
Hillary Clinton has begun laying out foreign-policy positions that sound a more hard-line note on Iran, Russia and other global trouble spots than is coming from President Barack Obama, underscoring how she might differentiate herself from the administration she served, should she run for president. The former secretary of state this week voiced doubts that Iran would make good on an agreement that Mr. Obama hopes will curb that country's nuclear program in exchange for relief from sanctions. Mrs. Clinton, speaking to the American Jewish Congress in New York, said that she was "personally skeptical that the Iranians would follow through and deliver" on the nuclear deal reached last year.
She added that the deal was a "development worth testing," though she hinted that military action should remain a consideration if the agreement collapses. "Let's be clear. Every option does remain on the table," she said. In previous appearances recently, Mrs. Clinton drew parallels between the actions of Russian President Vladimir Putin in Ukraine and Adolf Hitler before the Second World War. Mrs. Clinton's remarks, coupled with a memoir she is writing, give her a chance to shape impressions of her four years as the nation's top diplomat and to blunt Republican claims that she was a partner in an ineffectual Obama foreign-policy operation. When it comes to foreign policy, Mrs. Clinton faces a delicate balancing act in the run-up to the 2016 presidential race.
Overtly criticizing Mr. Obama's foreign moves would make her appear disloyal. But at the same time, as secretary of state, she was not in lock step with the president on all issues, and she might want to draw distinctions about her own stances. In internal discussions about the Syrian civil war, for example, she had pushed unsuccessfully for lethal support to opposition forces, in addition to diplomatic efforts to end the conflict, a former colleague of hers said. The arming proposal was later backed by Mr. Obama. One image from 2009 could prove embarrassing for Mrs. Cilnton, now that U.S.-Russian tensions are escalating. A widely distributed photo from that year shows a broadly smiling Mrs. Clinton pushing a red "reset" button with her Russian counterpart—a suggestion that relations between the two countries were on the mend. The Greenland segment attempts to put some scale to the concept of climate change. In the film, Vice co-founder Shane Smith heads to Greenland and sees firsthand what massive melting looks like. In one memorable scene, Smith stands with climatologist Jason Box, who is measuring the annual melt by burying long metal poles and returning the next year to see how much ice has melted away. As they stand there, Box explains that from last year to this year, the spot they're standing on has descended by 27 feet. Writing that, it doesn't mean much, it's just numbers. Seeing it, you get a real sense of scale—these two lonely guys on a huge sheet of ice, all of which is melting rapidly.
The Greenland segment puts out some useful facts and figures. For instance, if Greenland melts entirely, it will (by itself) account for a global sea level increase of 21 feet. That puts most major coastal cities well underwater...and it doesn't account for Antarctica, which is melting too. While alarming, the segment is not alarmist, and it's well done—gets in fast, gets the job done, and gets out of there. They make the point that while some forms of climate change benefit certain populations (increasing rainfall in an area, for instance), sea level rise helps no one.

Y’all, the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals granted a petition of discretionary review to review the reversal of Tom DeLay criminal conviction.
Honey, I have been paying the right preacher! This means that the fat lady ain’t sang yet, and Tom DeLay’s pronouncements that he’s “been found innocent” is wrong, wrong, wrong. It could be overturned.
Now, here’s the fun part. There are nine judges on the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals. Six months ago, all nine of them were Republicans but one judge, Lawrence Meyers, just switched to being a Democrat because Republicans make his skin crawl. For the court to grant this petition, at least five of them, or maybe all nine, voted that this reversal needs some attention. And that means some of the eight Republicans is probably pretty sick of seeing Tom DeLay strut around like he’s never done anything wrong.
This is great news for the State of Texas, the Travis County DA’s office, and Lady Justice.And me. This is great news for me because I think Tom DeLay is a bigger crook than we’ll ever know.

The state’s highest court on criminal matters announced that it would accept a petition asking it to consider whether a 2-1 decision by the Third Court of Appeals overturning DeLay’s criminal case conviction was appropriate.The appellate court in September 2013 tossed a high-profile jury verdict, ruling that “the evidence was legally insufficient to sustain DeLay’s convictions.” In a dissent, the lone Democrat on the three-judge panel argued the evidence for a conviction was sufficient enough to convince a rational jury that criminal conduct had taken place.

We've got a great opportunity! Politico reports that NBC News president Deborah Turness met with David Gregory Thursday to discuss how best to shore up Meet the Press:
I'm not sure they are aware. I think they walk in a fog of assumptions, particularly about how stupid viewers are. Take, for example, the segment at the top, where Gregory sits back and lets grifter Ralph Reed pretend that Republicans haven't done any harm to the country. Not only does he sit back, he joins the filibuster to make sure the Democrat doesn't get a word in edgewise. Or his claim that he doesn't need no stinkin' fact-checks, because it's not his job. Or Chuck Todd's, for that matter.
Those of you in our C&L community know all the ways MTP fails because you faithfully read and comment on our stories every week. So let's crowdsource the solutions and send them off to Deb Turness. After all, if they want actual breathing, thinking viewers on Sunday morning, it wouldn't hurt for them to hear from a few of us. I'll start with mine: Diversify the guest list. And by diversify, I don't mean tossing Andrea Mitchell on the show and thinking you've checked women off the list. I also don't mean criminals like Ralph Reed, who should never be taken seriously enough to make appearances as a 'pundit.'
No, I mean 'diversify.' Put some progressives and people of color on the show. And no, Deb. Progressive does not mean middle-of-the-road corporate Democrat. Over 50,000 people have signed my petition already. If you haven't, you can still sign.
