Mitt Romney TRIES To BRIBE COLLEGE STUDENTS To Attend His Iowa Rally

The Romney campaign was so desperate to get students to attend an on campus rally at Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa that they were giving away a foam Mitt or ball to the first 1,000 attendees.

Here is the press release announcing the event,

Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney will hold a rally in Orange City Friday, Sept. 7, beginning at noon (note time change from the Romney campaign) in Northwestern College’s Bultman Center gym.

Tickets are required and available free at the Northwestern College Rowenhorst Student Center front desk starting at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 5.

Doors open for the Friday event at 10 a.m.; guests should enter through the Bultman Center’s main doors and allow enough time to pass through security before entering the arena. The first 1,000 attendees will receive a limited edition Mitt Romney foam mitt or baseball.

Mitt Romney is so desperate to make it appear that young voters support him that he is literally doing stadium style giveaways in order to get people to attend. Judging by who the campaign picked to be in the crowd shot behind Romney, their giveaway didn’t work. Ironically during his speech Romney accused Obama of offering college students, “lots of free stuff” in order to vote for him, when at the very same event he had to offer students free stuff just to try to get them to attend. By the way, the free stuff that Romney was complaining about includes things like Pell Grants, Work Study, and access to student loans.

To give you an idea of how well his college student bribe went over, here is Romney working the rope line after the event.

Unless those senior citizens are freshmen, I would say that this was the typical Romney crowd. Mitt Romney is so unpopular that he has to try to bribe people to come see him speak. Barack Obama, Bill Clinton, Hillary Clinton, John McCain, and Sarah Palin never had to give away free stuff to try to attract a crowd. Anyone who has ever been to a Ron Paul rally on a college campus can confirm that Dr. Paul doesn’t have to give things away to get people to come see him, but the Republican Party’s 2012 nominee can’t attract a crowd on his own merits.

MITT’s Mom on Her Husband, George: “He Was A REFUGEE From Mexico, On WELFARE…”

We heard the Romney family claim their Mexican heritage at last week’s RNC without mentioning that the reason their forefathers fled the United States of America was because polygamy had been made illegal in exchange for the admission of Utah to the Union. What we had not heard until today was Lenore Romney, Mitt’s mom, explain that her husband, George, despite his great wealth, had a very good understanding of people in need.

At 53 sec. mark on Video:

"....HE WAS A REFUGEE FROM MEXICO, ON WELFARE RELIEF, FOR THE FIRST YEARS OF HIS LIFE..."

&feature=player_embedded

So — Mitt Romney’s dad came to America, pre-welfare reform, and was on welfare despite his Mexican heritage, without his family having contributed to the system that supported himself and his family. Why does that sound so familiar, Mexicans coming to America to steal benefits from hard-working Americans that they haven’t earned?

The ROMNEY-KOCH Handshake: Network TV CENSORS Revealing Moment

DemocracyNow.org - When Mitt Romney walked down the aisle toward the stage Thursday night, among the people whose hands he shook was the conservative billionaire and major political donor David Koch. But it was a moment missed by the tens of millions of viewers at home. While Democracy Now! was there on the floor and captured the handshake on video, the networks cut away just before the handshake to show footage of two enthusiastic young women supporters, and then an overhead shot of the convention center. Then, the shot came back to Romney shaking hands further down the aisle as he ascended the stage. Groups in the network of David Koch, and his brother Charles, intend to spend nearly $400 million ahead of the 2012 election. When David Koch sat down as a member of the New York delegation Thursday night on the convention floor, Democracy Now! host Amy Goodman attempted to ask him a question. While he started to answer, the delegates and security around him stood up, one by one, creating a human wall between them. One of those who stood up was Ed Cox, chair of the Republican Party of New York and the son-in-law of President Richard Nixon.

Here WE Go Again … Paul Ryan CAUGHT In Mountain Climbing FIB?

What with all the sub-three hour marathon running, how did Paul Ryan find time to scramble up 38 of Colorado’s tallest mountain peaks? Well, somehow he did, says Paul Ryan.

Release the spreadsheets! I’m not one, but serious mountain climbers say that they record an account of every peak they’ve ascended. That’s why various message board posters and Twitter folk are asking Paul Ryan to release documentation that he actually climbed 38 “14ers” (mountain peaks) in the Colorado Rockies, as he claimed in an interview with the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. http://www.supertopo.com/climbing/thread.php?topic_id=1905949&tn=120

Other reactions? People are actually climbing 14ers and taking pictures of themselves at the summit with signs mocking Ryan. (Note the empty chair).

Our story begins when Mitt Romney first picked Ryan to be his running mate. At the time, state Colorado Party Republican chairman Ryan Call told a reporter that Ryan told him he has “climbed nearly 40 of Colorado’s 53 fourteeners, or mountains above 14,000 feet in elevation.”

Actually Ryan has claimed to have climbed 38 fourteeners … and some of them multiple times, for 30 unique fourteeners total. Still, that’s just short of 40 serious climbs. From the 2009 article in the Journal Sentinel:

Ryan: “My mom was very outdoorsy … We spent our summers doing backpacking trips in the (Colorado) back-country, you know, Snowmass Lake, Capital Peak, spent all our summers doing that … went all over White River National Forest, just the whole Elk range. I mean I’ve climbed every fourteener in that range and the three around there … So I got into climbing fourteeners when I was 12, with my brother, Stan. My mom got us into that.”

Question: “How many fourteeners have you climbed? Or how many times?”

Ryan: “38. I think that’s my last count.”

Question: “Those are just climbing peaks that are 14,000 feet?”

Ryan: “I’ve done it 38 times. … I’ve done 38, but I think the number of unique peaks is something like twenty … no, no it’s like thirty or something like that. I counted it up a year or two ago.”

Question: “Most of those in Colorado?”

Ryan: “All of them are in Colorado.”

40 14?ers is serious lifestyle climbing and a lot of hiking. This guy is pathological. — Riley Wina.

Riley is right. To have climbed forty and not be a resident means that you would have had to devote entire summers to climbing fourteeners. — Rick A.

SHAME on the LIAR: Mitt Romney’s MOTHER Talks About His Father Being On WELFARE

Seriously… This would make any person with a soul weep from shame. Yesterday, Mitt Romney attacked President Obama over providing food stamps to so many Americans in a time of need, as if this were a bad thing, as if people in need should not be helped, as if it were not George W. Bush’s policies that took Clinton’s surplus and turned it into the epic disaster from which we are still recovering.

Yet, Mitt Romney knows need well. Here is video of Mitt Romney’s mother, Lenore LaFount Romney, talking about how his father George was on welfare relief after he was a refugee from Mexico.

Watch Lenore LaFount Romney, the former First Lady of Michigan from 1963 to 1969 and the Republican Party nominee for the U.S. Senate in 1970, via BuzzFeed:

&feature=player_embedded

Will this stop Mitt Romney from bashing immigrants or poor people? No, because it’s not as if he didn’t know this. We all knew it about his father George, who never forgot where he came from and was a decent, hard working man. George Romney really did build his wealth, but only after he took some help from the government to get through tough times.

Mitt Romney is attacking President Obama for feeding poor children. According to the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities:

In 2011, SNAP helped almost 45 million low-income Americans to afford a nutritionally adequate diet in a typical month. Nearly 75 percent of SNAP participants are in families with children; more than one-quarter are in households with seniors or people with disabilities. While SNAP’s fundamental purpose is to help low-income families, the elderly, and people with disabilities afford an adequate diet and avoid hardship, it promotes other goals as well, such as reducing poverty, supporting and encouraging work, protecting the overall economy from risk, and promoting healthy eating.

SNAP caseloads have risen significantly since late 2007, as the recession and lagging recovery battered the economic circumstances of millions of Americans and dramatically increased the number of low-income households who qualify and apply for help from the program. Yet, despite the rapid caseload growth, SNAP payment accuracy has continued to improve, reaching all-time highs. Moreover, the Congressional Budget Office predicts that SNAP spending will fall as a share of the economy in coming years as the economy recovers and temporary benefit expansions that Congress enacted in 2009 expire.

Tens Of Thousands Of FEMINISTS Call On CNN To FIRE SEXIST CONTRIBUTOR

This afternoon, in just over one hour, 23,000 people signed a petition asking CNN to fire contributor Erick Erickson. His offense? He referred to the Democrats’ packed list of female speakers at their convention in Charlotte, North Carolina as “the Vagina Monologues”:

First night of the Vagina Monologues in Charlotte going as expected.

— Erick Erickson (@EWErickson) September 5, 2012

After a flurry of furious tweets, Erickson — who once said he “kind of liked the idea” that women are barred from a golf club so that he wasn’t “hanging out at some women’s event” — half-heartedly expressed regret for his comment, saying “My apologies to those offended by my tweet. Wasn’t my intention.”

But UltraViolet, a women’s advocacy group, launched the petition calling on CNN to “Take him off the air right away” for his sexist line. “Seriously?” the petition reads, “He hears powerful, eloquent women talking about crucial issues and that’s his reaction?”

Among the “Vagina Monologues” that Erickson was referring to were speeches by Sec. of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius; Congressional candidate and double-amputee Iraq veteran Tammy Duckworth; and the First Lady of the United States, Michelle Obama.
