Tammy Duckworth: JOE WALSH ' TEA PARTY LOUD MOUTH '

" Tammy Duckworth, Illinois Rep. Joe Walsh’s Democratic challenger, stepped up her assault on the Republican congressman late Tuesday, calling him an “extremist loudmouth for the tea party.” Walsh has come under fire since accusing Duckworth — a veteran who lost her legs and the partial use of one arm while serving in Iraq — of discussing her military record too much.

“Now I’m running against a woman who, I mean, my God — that’s all she talks about,” the congressman said over the weekend. “Our true heroes, the men and women who served us, that’s the last thing in the world they talk about.” In an interview with MSNBC’s Ed Schultz on Tuesday, Duckworth — who earlier in the day said Walsh had “disrespected 23 million veterans” — criticized the congressman for having accomplished nothing during his first term in Congress.

“He’s just trying to shift the focus away from the fact he’s done nothing in his two years in Congress other than be an extremist loudmouth for the tea party, and really he’s not served his district at all,” Duckworth said. “I’m proud of my service. I’m proud that I have lived up to my responsibilities to this nation in uniform, that I lived up to my responsibilities as a public servant.” Calling Walsh’s controversial remarks “irresponsible,” Duckworth said for Walsh to “denigrate military service is very insulting.”

“He’s using it for his own political gain. And our 23 million veterans have done more in one day in uniform than he’s done for this country,” she said. “He’s trying to muddy the waters. He’s just trying to shift the focus away from the fact he’s done nothing for the people of the district.”

CERN Announces Discovery Of NEW PARTICLE In Leaked Video

" The Cern physics laboratory near Geneva appeared to leak crucial details of its hunt for the long-sought Higgs boson particle on Tuesday when it accidentally posted a video announcing the discovery of a new particle on its website. Senior scientists at Cern are due to reveal the latest findings in the hunt for the famed particle at a much-anticipated press conference in Geneva on Wednesday, and had tried to keep the results under wraps, despite intense rumours that the laboratory had found the particle. But Cern, which takes credit for inventing the world wide web, inadvertently released a video interview on its website dated 4 July 2012 in which spokesman Joe Incandela states the lab has “observed a new particle”.

A press officer at the laboratory blamed a technical glitch for the video going live. The interview was taken down shortly after. Speaking on the video, Incandela stopped short of claiming the particle was the Higgs boson, saying more work was needed to be sure. “We have quite strong evidence that there’s something there. It’s properties are still going to take us a little bit of time,” he said. The details Incandela revealed suggest it has the hallmarks of the Higgs particle. “We can see that it decays into two photons, for example, which tells us it’s a boson, it’s a particle with integer spin, and we know its mass is roughly 100 times the mass of the proton. And this is very significant.

“This is the most massive such particle that exists, if we confirm all this, which I think we will,” he said. “It’s something that may, in the end, be one of the biggest observations of any new phenomena in our field in the last 30 or 40 years, going way back to the discovery of quarks,” he added. A spokesperson for Cern said the video went live on the internet due to a “technical fault”. They added that the lab had recorded several videos in advance with spokespersons at the lab.

CONNECTING The DOTS Between Karl Rove and His ALLEGED Bisexual LOVER

Ali Akbar and Tim Pawlenty

" The GOP operative who is alleged to be Karl Rove's bisexual lover states in a video that he has, in fact, worked with Rove. We also have learned that Ali A. Akbar has ties to possible election fraud in Texas, where Rove built his political base. Election fraud in Texas? Gosh, no wonder it appears these two get along famously.

These latest details come from top-notch research at The Liberal Grouch blog. http://www.theliberalgrouch.com/2012/06/30/ali-akbar-the-american-dream-or-kopulating-with-karl/

The Grouch, whose real name is Bill Schmalfeldt, has been closely following the story since Alabama lawyer Dana Jill Simpson released a letter last week that she had written to Robert Bauer, chief counsel for the Barack Obama re-election campaign. The letter was a reaction to Rove's recent bizarre rant on Fox News, in which he made a number of clearly false allegations about Bauer and Simpson, who is best known for her role as a whistleblower in the political prosecution of former Alabama Governor Don Siegelman. In the letter, Simpson denied Rove's charges that Bauer had once represented her and confirmed Bauer's statement that the two had never met. Simpson went on to say that she thought Rove attacked out of fear that she was about to reveal information regarding his personal life, including the alleged relationship with Akbar.

Known mainly for his role as president of the National Bloggers Club, an umbrella group for conservative bloggers that grew from the Andrew Breitbart network, Akbar recently was outed for having a criminal record. But Simpson's letter took the level of scrutiny to a whole new level. As Schmalfeldt asked in a recent post, how did Akbar go so quickly from being a small-time criminal thug to a prominent position within the GOP, one where he has his picture taken with such luminaries as Newt Gingrich and Tim Pawlenty? That's the kind of rise that seemingly could only happen with the help of a powerful booster. Is that booster Karl Rove? And is the boost driven by a sexual relationship between Akbar and Rove. Schmalfeldt uncovered a YouTube video where Akbar acknowledges having worked for Rove. You can catch the video at the end of this post, and the key part comes at about the 2:17 mark.

As for Akbar's ties to possible voter fraud, Schmalfeldt found a December 2007 post from a Web site called Libertarian Republican. http://www.libertarianrepublican.net/2007/12/john-mccain-staffer-allegedly-discussed.html Akbar, at the time, was working on the John McCain presidential campaign, and he apparently was willing to openly discuss shady election tactics:

The John McCain Campaign is facing a possible scandal from a Texas Campaign Staffer John McCain Campaign Staffer Ali Akbar from the Dallas/Ft. Worth area, is alleged to have discussed using voter fraud techniques. This occured in an extended conference call within 1 month ago, with two other political operatives, one a volunteer for Ron Paul for President in Nevada. The staffer is in charge of a very key McCain for President campaign area. The staffer has been contacted by "higher-ups" in the McCain camp asking him to explain his statements.

More details emerging . . .

According to one sourve in the DFW area Akbar has had past problems with the law including credit card fraud. And that he might in fact be on parole.

Just breaking . . .

The McCain campaign at the highest levels has had an emergency conference call on the matter.

The articles goes on to say:

Statement from one of the two witnesses Joey Dauben of South Dallas: I sat in on a meeting in my downtown Dallas office and heard an ecampaign staffer with the John McCain campaign – Ali A. Akbar – openly discuss ways to manipulate, rig and otherwise “take” an election

Schmalfeldt traced Akbar to Ellis County, Texas, where he worked for a news Web site called the Ellis County Observer. Akbar's work apparently involved covering up the misdeeds of a former police chief named Michael Meissner, who was charged with posing as a woman and soliciting photos of underaged boys. That sounds Sanduskyesque.

Vanity Fair Looks Into ROMNEY'S OFFSHORE FINANCES

Where the Money Lives

"..For all Mitt Romney’s touting of his business record, when it comes to
his own money the Republican nominee is remarkably shy about disclosing
numbers and investments. Nicholas Shaxson delves into the murky
world of offshore finance, revealing loopholes that allow the very wealthy
to skirt tax laws, and investigating just how much of Romney’s fortune
(with $30 million in Bain Capital funds in the Cayman Islands alone?) looks
pretty strange for a presidential candidate..."

VANITY FAIR Excerpt:

To give but one example, there is a Bermuda-based entity called Sankaty High Yield Asset Investors Ltd., which has been described in securities filings as “a Bermuda corporation wholly owned by W. Mitt Romney.” It could be that Sankaty is an old vehicle with little importance, but Romney appears to have treated it rather carefully. He set it up in 1997, then transferred it to his wife’s newly created blind trust on January 1, 2003, the day before he was inaugurated as Massachusetts’s governor. The director and president of this entity is R. Bradford Malt, the trustee of the blind trust and Romney’s personal lawyer. Romney failed to list this entity on several financial disclosures, even though such a closely held entity would not qualify as an “excepted investment fund” that would not need to be on his disclosure forms. He finally included it on his 2010 tax return. Even after examining that return, we have no idea what is in this company, but it could be valuable, meaning that it is possible Romney’s wealth is even greater than previous estimates. While the Romneys’ spokespeople insist that the couple has paid all the taxes required by law, investments in tax havens such as Bermuda raise many questions, because they are in “jurisdictions where there is virtually no tax and virtually no compliance,” as one Miami-based offshore lawyer put it.

That’s not the only money Romney has in tax havens. Because of his retirement deal with Bain Capital, his finances are still deeply entangled with the private-equity firm that he founded and spun off from Bain and Co. in 1984. Though he left the firm in 1999, Romney has continued to receive large payments from it—in early June he revealed more than $2 million in new Bain income. The firm today has at least 138 funds organized in the Cayman Islands, and Romney himself has personal interests in at least 12, worth as much as $30 million, hidden behind controversial confidentiality disclaimers. Again, the Romney campaign insists he saves no tax by using them, but there is no way to check this.

Bain Capital is the heart of Romney’s fortune: it was the financial engine that created it. The mantra of his campaign is that he was a businessman who created tens of thousands of jobs, and Bain certainly did bring useful operational skills to many companies it bought. But his critics point to several cases where Bain bought companies, loaded them with debt, and paid itself extravagant fees, thereby bankrupting the companies and destroying tens of thousands of jobs.

Come August, Romney, with an estimated net worth as high as $250 million (he won’t reveal the exact amount), will be one of the richest people ever to be nominated for president. Given his reticence to discuss his wealth, it’s only natural to wonder how he got it, how he invests it, and if he pays all his taxes on it.

BWAHAHAHAHAHA: CRAZY EYES Michele Bachmann Does NOT DENY She Is Being VETTED

PLEASE, PLEASE, MAKE IT SO!! (unlikely)

" Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) on Monday refused to say whether or not she was being considered as a running mate for Mitt Romney. “One thing I know about Mitt Romney, he’s made excellent decisions in the past when it comes to running organizations and I have no doubt, whoever it is, that he chooses, to bring in as his V.P., it will be a highly competent person who could step in at a moments notice and assume the responsibilities of the White House,” she told CNN’s Piers Morgan.

“Are you being vetted at the moment?” Morgan asked.

“Well, that’s something for the campaign to answer on,” she responded. “That’s not for me to make that decision, and that announcement.”

“That is not, as we say, in the journalistic trade, a denial,” Morgan noted.

Bachmann’s former campaign manager, Ed Rollins, has said the Minnesota congresswoman avoided attacking Romney during the primaries to safeguard her chances of being his vice presidential pick.

“There was some talk early on between her and her husband that she could end up as the vice presidential nominee,” Rollins told Politico.

HOW MUCH SLEAZE Will Be Unearthed In INVESTIGATION of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce?

CAPPO

"....Could this wind up being a case of "Eliot Spitzer's Revenge"? The former attorney general and governor of New York appeared to be on the verge of busting AIG in early 2008 when he was brought down by his own prostitution-related scandal..."

The U.S. Supreme Court's decision to uphold most of the Obama health-care law was by far the most-watched story of last week. But a story that might prove to be more important in the long run quietly unfolded in Albany, New York. It could wind up shining light on organizations and individuals who have befouled the political environment here in Alabama. Eric T. Schneiderman, the attorney general of New York, launched an investigation of tax-exempt groups that are heavily involved in political campaigns. A case involving the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, and its high-profile director Tom Donohue, is a focal point of the probe. It might also examine groups led by the billionaire Koch brothers and Republican strategist Karl Rove.

What could this mean for Alabama? Well, it's too early to say. But it's a matter of public record that Rove and Business Council of Alabama (BCA) President Bill Canary used financial support from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce to essentially buy state-court seats in our state. That process started in the mid 1990s and turned an all-Democratic bench into a Republican stronghold, one that has been prone to overturn jury verdicts that favor consumers. It's also a matter of public record that Canary's BCA was linked to the political prosecution of former Alabama Governor Don Siegelman. And one of Canary's lieutenants, Ralph Stacy, died from a mysterious shotgun blast at BCA headquarters. Stacy's death has been ruled a suicide, but the details of any investigation have gone largely unreported in the mainstream Montgomery press. We already have asked this question: Did the U.S. Chamber of Commerce play a role in Ralph Stacy's death? Should the New York investigation wind up spreading to Alabama . . . well, there is no telling what ugliness might be found. For now, here is how The New York Times describes the focus of Schneiderman's probe:

Mr. Schneiderman issued a wide-ranging subpoena on Tuesday to executives at a foundation affiliated with the chamber, seeking e-mails, bank records and other documents to determine whether the foundation illegally funneled $18 million to the chamber for political and lobbying activities, according to people with knowledge of the investigation.

The investigation is also looking at connections between the chamber’s foundation, the National Chamber Foundation, and another philanthropy, the Starr Foundation, which made large grants to the chamber foundation in 2003 and 2004. During the same period, the National Chamber Foundation lent the chamber $18 million, most of it for what was described as a capital campaign. What are the possible implications of the New York investigation? The Times spells it out:

Mr. Schneiderman’s investigation is the first significant one in years into the rapidly growing use of tax-exempt groups to move money into politics. The biggest such groups, including Americans for Prosperity, which is backed by the billionaire brothers Charles and David Koch, and Crossroads Grassroots Policy Strategies, which was founded by Karl Rove and other Republican strategists, are expected to spend hundreds of millions of dollars this year on issue advertisements against candidates to sway the outcome of the presidential and Congressional elections.

But the sources of that money are largely obscured from public view by mazes of transactions between allied groups and laws that allow tax-exempt organizations — unlike candidates and “super PACs” — to shield their donors.

Calls from Democrats and ethics watchdogs for tighter oversight of the groups’ political activities have resulted in little action by either the Federal Election Commission, which is deadlocked over the issue, or the Internal Revenue Service, which regulates charities at the federal level. But the subpoena from Mr. Schneiderman, a Democrat who made tougher campaign finance laws a centerpiece of his 2010 election campaign, suggests that he — like his predecessors Eliot Spitzer and Andrew M. Cuomo — is preparing to aggressively exploit the unusually broad regulatory powers of his office to vault onto the national stage.

Let’s NUDGE Republicans OFF Their Shaky HEALTHCARE CLIFF

" If the Democrats can’t turn the Affordable Health Care Act (ACA) into THE issue of the upcoming election and then win overwhelmingly with it, that omission will be the greatest example of political malfeasance in recent history and the party will deserve to lose. Tea Party Republicans are on such shaky ground with their opposition to “Obamacare” that it would be a sin not to nudge and send them sprawling into the dirt. Better yet, the President and each Democrat running for congress (as well as for governor or attorney general in every Red state which sued over the mandate or is fussin’ over implementation) should rip the health care plank out of the Republican platform and bash incumbents over the head with it.

First of all, quit digging down. Explanations don’t work, sound bites do. There was Nancy Pelosi on Sunday morning and Sheila Jackson Lee Monday afternoon explaining the fine points of taxes and penalties. Who gives a crap? The vehicle doesn’t matter, the intent does and the operative term is “freeloaders” as in “we are going to make sure that no one who can actually afford to be insured will freeload off the rest of us.” Of course the Left doesn’t typically think that way. We want “universal health care.” We are concerned about people who find themselves sick or hurt and unable to pay for care. We also lose elections because that namby-pamby attitude is what the right hates most about us. The Right panders to the core values of greed and resentment. We may abhor it, but with health care we can beat them at their own game.

We must not let the issue die. Donny Deutsch, who usually has a pretty good divining rod for pop culture and advertising, said this morning that “health care is not an issue on which either side can dramatically win.” Wrong! Letting the issue drop will free Romney to return to the economy and his baseless claims of job-building skills. He and Obama are both vulnerable on those topics but only Republicans can be nailed over their opposition to health care. First they were going to “repeal and replace.” On second thought maybe they will just repeal. Every Republican candidate should be forced to define which it is and if the former then precisely what will they replace AFA with and how will it deal with preexisting conditions and lifetime caps? The face of healthcare going forward must be made a major political issue but on our terms not theirs.

Next month 12.8 million Americans or their employers will share in $1 billion in health insurance rebates, an average of $151 per family. The dollar value is transitory; what needs to be hammered home to Americans is what the refunds signify.

• “The refund is coming because you were overcharged for your health care insurance this year.”

• “Can you just imagine how much the insurance companies have gouged you over the last five, ten, or 20 years?”

• Do you see (insert name of Republican candidate) caring that you have been overcharged?

• “In fact, the Republicans actually scheduled a vote to repeal ACA in July. If it had passed insurers would have been allow to rip up those refund checks only days before they were supposed to be mailed to you.”

Willard Romney Vs The GOP: Is The Mandate A TAX?

ThinkProgress:

" Last week, the Supreme Court ruled that the mandate in President Obama’s health care reform functions as a tax, making it constitutional under the federal government’s taxing power. Republicans and conservative media figures immediately jumped on this point, accusing the Obama administration of a massive tax hike. This puts Mitt Romney, the GOP’s presidential candidate, in an awkward spot. He signed precisely the same kind of mandate into law in a health care reform bill in Massachusetts, and his top campaign adviser Eric Fehrnstrom has explicitly insisted that mandate was NOT A TAX.

BWHAHAHAHA: Bill Maher URGES Romney To PICK George Zimmerman as VP

Bill dishes out a piece of his political mind for all!

RawStory:

" On Friday night’s edition of “Real Time with Bill Maher,” host Bill Maher asked Mitt Romney to do him a small favor and not choose his running-mate until after August 17, when “Real Time” returns from its summer hiatus.

“And furthermore, he must take my advice on who to pick,” he said, because secretly he wants Gov. Mitt Romney (R-MA) to win the presidency. Romney is, all politics aside, an “ultra-caucasian Mormon zillionaire who uses his dog as a hood ornament,” and a treasure trove of gaffes, awkward moments and disastrous off-the-cuff remarks. For a comedian to bet against Romney, Maher said, is like Halliburton betting against wars.

The current vice presidential options, as Maher sees them, are a little bleak. There’s Florida’s Senator Marco Rubio (R) “who you may recognize as the brother of the bride in every wedding you’ve ever been to.” There’s “naugahyde bean-bag chair,” New Jersey Governor Chris Christie (R) and Wisconsin Congressional Rep. Paul Ryan (R), who’s a “heartless, smirking bastard,” a demographic that Romney pretty much already has sewn up. And then of course there’s ex-Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty (R), who is so dull he might actually make Romney look interesting.
