Melissa Harris-Perry Spoke with Bernie Sanders About His APPEAL to Millennials Of Color

In an interview Monday night on MSNBC, Melissa Harris-Perry spoke with Senator Bernie Sanders about his appeal to millennials of color. “Hip hop is, like, completely down with you. You appear on WorldStarHipHop more often than the Kardashians,” she joked, causing an giddy, knowing smile to fill Sanders’s face. “What do you think is so interesting about you for the hip hop generation?”

Does Bernie Sanders have any idea what WorldStarHipHop is? Maybe. Maybe not. But he had an answer for her question that required him to say “Kardashians” more than once, which is a nice treat.

“You’re having me compete with the Kardashians? That is tough competition, there. And if we’re holding our own with the Kardashians, I think we’re doing pretty good.”

New Bernie Sanders Ads FOCUS on Working Families

PRESS RELEASE

New Sanders Ads Focus on Working Families

DECEMBER 28, 2015

BURLINGTON, Vt. – Four new television ads from the Sanders campaign will hit airwaves in early primary states starting tomorrow. The spots focus on Sanders’ plans to end policies that leave American families working longer hours for lower wages.

“What this campaign is about is to demand that we create an economy that works for all of us rather than a handful of billionaires,” Sanders says in an ad titled “Working Families.”

In a second spot, Sanders tells a crowd about his fight in the Senate to stop Social Security cuts. “We said it will be over our dead bodies if you cut Social Security. As president, I will do everything I can to extend the solvency of Social Security and expand benefits for people who desperately need them,” Sanders promises in the ad titled “Social Security.”

“Bernie Sanders understands how pharmaceutical companies and major medical companies are ripping us off,” Mari Cordes, a registered nurse from Lincoln, Vermont, says in an ad on the cost of health care. “He’s the only one who can bring real change.”

“The 15 richest Americans acquired more wealth in two years than the bottom 100 million people combined,” Sanders says into the camera before laying out his plan to make the wealthy pay their fair share and bring prosperity to working Americans in a fourth ad titled “Bottom 100 Million.”

The new ads come on the heels of Sanders’ two millionth contribution and a 12-point pickup in the latest CNN/ORC national poll, including growing support among what the pollster refers to as non-white voters. The latest The Economist/YouGov poll shows Sanders gaining significant ground. Sanders is currently campaigning in Nevada where more than 2,000 people turned out to see him speak just two days after Christmas.

2,000 TURN OUT at Big Reno Rally for Bernie Sanders

PRESS RELEASE

2,000 Turn Out at Big Reno Rally for Bernie

DECEMBER 27TH, 2015

RENO, Nev. – U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders on Sunday brought his campaign for the Democratic Party presidential nomination to the Reno Ballroom here and told more than 2,000 supporters that “with your support we’re going to win here in Nevada.”

“We have a path toward victory not only to win this election but most importantly to transform our country,” Sanders told Nevadans.

Sanders leads Hillary Clinton in recent polls in New Hampshire and is within striking distance of the lead in Iowa. After Iowa’s Feb. 1 precinct caucuses and New Hampshire’s Feb. 9 primary election, Nevada is the next state to play a critical role in the nomination process with caucuses on Feb. 20.

In reality, Sanders said, the presidential nomination process kicked off long ago for Republican White House hopefuls last April at a Las Vegas casino. What was dubbed the “Adelson Primary” was staged by billionaire gambling tycoon Sheldon Adelson who welcomed a parade of Republican hopefuls to his posh Las Vegas casino to vie for his financial support.

Adelson and other billionaires have exploited the corrupt campaign finance system ushered in by a Supreme Court ruling in a case known as Citizens United vs. Federal Election Commission. That disastrous 5-4 decision in 2010 opened the floodgates for corporations and billionaires like Adelson to spend unlimited sums to bankroll candidates.

Earlier Sunday, Sanders spoke to about 140 supporters at a union hall here with members of the three major national labor organizations which have the endorsed him: the Communications Workers of America, National Nurses United and the American Postal Workers Union.

At another meeting with some 160 seniors and others, Sanders said protecting Social Security is a top priority at a time when more than half of workers nearing retirement have no savings. He also called for reining in runaway prescription drug prices and stopping cuts to Medicare.

The Reno stops were on the first day of a two-day trip to Nevada.

Later this week, Sanders returns to Iowa before heading back to New Hampshire next weekend.

Hillary Clinton's Kwanzaa Outreach Was UNSUCCESSFUL.

The Democratic candidate changed her Twitter logo for Kwanzaa and promptly set off a firestorm of jokes

Hillary Clinton’s Twitter avatar took on a Kwanzaa theme on Saturday night, making her campaign logo into what appeared to be a kinara, the candle holder Kwanzaa celebrators use. Almost immediately, she received comments accusing her of tone deafness, and it wasn’t long before a hashtag, #NewHillaryLogo, emerged to mock the Democratic candidate’s efforts to get “the black vote.”

Clinton wrote a happy Kwanzaa tweet to accompany her logo change, but she changed the logo back just a few hours later.

Despite the reversal, the #NewHillaryLogo hashtag had already caught fire:

Let This Statement From Bernie Sink In, And ASK YOURSELF If You Want This INSANITY To Continue.

Bernie Sanders ✔@BernieSanders

Next year, four of the 12 presidents at the regional Federal Reserve Banks will be former executives from one firm: Goldman Sachs.

6:21 PM - 27 Dec 2015

Rubin, Summers, Paulson….think of what those names have done for the American economy, and two of them worked under Democrats. Is this the path we want to continue on -- Former Goldman Sachs employees running our banking and treasury system?

Watch Robert Rubin and Henry Paulson, who were big contributors to our 2007 meltdown, laughing it up over income inequality:

Funny, huh?

Think of what they say and laugh about when NOT on a stage being filmed.

Do we REALLY want another bought-out-by-banks politician to hire more Goldman Sachs employees in key economic positions within the government?

Stop the madness. Reform our Federal Reserve system and break up the big banks.

Why Bernie Sanders Thinks HE CAN WIN Trump's Supporters

Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vermont, faulted Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump for converting voters' legitimate concerns into hatred and said he can win over some of those voters with his message about improving the economy.

"Many of Trump's supporters are working-class people and they're angry, and they're angry because they're working longer hours for lower wages, they're angry because their jobs have left this country and gone to China or other low-wage countries, they're angry because they can't afford to send their kids to college so they can't retire with dignity," Sanders said Sunday on CBS' "Face the Nation."

"What Trump has done with some success is taken that anger, taken those fears which are legitimate and converted them into anger against Mexicans, anger against Muslims, and in my view that is not the way we're going to address the major problems facing our country," he said.

He suggested there was a certain irony about the fact that Trump does not want to raise the minimum wage, and is looking at ways to give millions in tax breaks to the wealthiest people in the country.

"I think for his working class and middle class supporters, I think we can make the case that if we really want to address the issues that people are concerned about...we need policies that bring us together that take on the greed of Wall Street, the greed of corporate America, and create a middle class that works for all of us rather than an economy that works just for a few," Sanders said.

Sanders also weighed in on the case of Sandra Bland, the black woman who died in a Southeast Texas county jail last summer. A grand jury decided earlier this month that no felony crime was committed by the sheriff's office or the jailers. They have not yet reached a decision on whether the trooper that arrested Bland should face charges.

"The way she was yanked out of that car and the way she was treated by that police officer is not something I think would have happened to the average middle class white woman," Sanders said. He called for "significant" criminal justice reform and said that it should be made clear to police officers that lethal force "should be a last option, not a first option."
