Thank you!

I (and others of course) have been arguing against the double standard which is rampant here since last year at this time -- the "do as I say, while I do as I please" crowd, which dominates Meta, and thereby indirectly, the whole board.

You're exactly right, the alert system is the designated way to deal with any problems that come up. Call outs and the piling on which that facillitates, are really not even for the purpose of dealing with anything, because Admins make up their own minds on PPRs.

The call outs of the specific-by-name piling-on variety are purely and simply character assassination parties, usually based on a trumped up false charge from the git-go, designed to gin up emotion to get people to turn against given posters, or to drive them away, or shut them up by making it not worth the aggravation to post anymore. I call that TROLLING, according to the commonly known definition of it. Ironic, isn't it?

The troll-hunters use trolling to supposedly smoke out the trolls. Bull pucky. The Emperor isn't wearing any clothes.

Here were go again with the cheesy innuendos.

Really? In this, of all threads? Why don't you and Sid (and whoever) write up your concerns and send them to Admin? I, for one, am tired of watching this death-by-mockery b.s. go down. If you know something, then make your case -- to TPTB, not here.

Otherwise I guess I and those of us who don't like it will have no choice but to start alerting on this stuff, and see what happens? I'd prefer not to go that far, but whatever. It is rude, ok? And abusive. Does that matter?

The privilege of obscenely excessive (usually fraudulently ill-gotten) money

is the only privilege that matters. All the other privileges can't do much without that one in operation first to enable them.

The "privilege" bought by extreme amounts of corrupt money breeds lots of other "sins". Fighting those offshoot sins (such as white male privilege, alias the patriarchy) is only fighting the symptoms instead of the disease. And it's just as ineffective as that.

Think about it... the more opportunity there is for everyone-and-anyone to advance, the less privilege of any kind can exist; or to the extent that it does still exist, the less it matters.

Having lived 60+ years, I for one don't care about the lesser battles anymore. Those that do care, that's fine for them. But I see it as a diversion of attention from the only one that matters. I'm more interested in seeing a solution than just having a harangue to engage in.

Big money, on the scale that we have today IS the problem. Confiscate it back and put it to some good use re-leveling the playing field, and we can get on with our lives... instead of spending so much time being part of a (necessary but largely ineffective) permanent counter-lobbying machine.

"The Story" -- Brandi Carlile

"All of these lines across my face tell you the story of who I am
So many stories of where I've been and how I got to where I am..."

I like the gutsy, intense "attitude" she puts into that thought. Outward aging doesn't matter, ageless in the head is what rocks! Some never have that, some never lose it.

Heads Up: today is the deadline to submit an Independent Foreclosure Review, if any are interested.

Online applications can be filled out at the link below, which I just did:

http://independentforeclosurereview.com

Be aware though, about half a dozen times I got a "505 error" before getting on the site at all. Then, I couldn't get my identifying info to bring up an app form to fill out. I called the help numbers, and guess what, no representatives are available today due to "high call volume". Finally though, an application page did come up and I got it done... after about 2 dozen tries. Just keep trying.

I was thinking, ya know, some things never change. It's probably that way on purpose, just so lots of people will get frustrated and give up.

Anyway, I just thought that some here may be interested before it's too late tonight at midnight. It applies to primary homes in any stage of the foreclosure process in 2009 and 2010, google for further info. It's a pretty simple form, actually.

And... Happy New Year to all!!!

A Carlos Santana carol (an instrumental)

It's called "Posada (Pilgrimage to Bethlehem)". A long while ago I got a Christmas cd called "Platinum Christmas" and this was on it. One of my favorites since, but not found much anywhere.

Merry Christmas, everyone, and Happy Holidays!

Billboard's Top 100 for any year -- 1950 to 2011.

Thanks, Faygo Kid! 1964 to 1967 were my favorite years. Wish I could do them over again, I'd do it in a milli-second. The songs do bring it back though -- I stayed into "the classics" since they were new.

http://www.musicoutfitters.com/top-100-songs.htm

I'll say one thing -- we knew how to throw a dance then, and we weren't ashamed to be romantic. (Btw, those who don't know about slow dancing are really missing out.)

Happy Holidays to you!

Oh, oops, wait a minute... "we can't hold a group responsibile for the actions of an individual"

Remember that? Isn't that what I heard all last week or maybe two... in the context of... something else? But that's different, I know.

I'm against gun promotion too, but it's just the self-serving, double standard, hypocrisy that I find so interesting.

And advocating jury nullification? If that's even suggested about some, um, other issues... I can just imagine the outcry.

I'm laughing to myself watching the values gymnastics that goes on here. This is just a "note to self" observation for me, carry on...

Don't ask for whom the bell tolls, it tolls for you.

from:

For Whom the Bell Tolls, by Ernest Hemingway, 1940.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/For_Whom_the_Bell_Tolls

...

Title

The title of the book is a reference to John Donne's series of meditations and prayers on health, pain, and sickness (written while Donne was convalescing from a nearly fatal illness) that were published as a book in 1624 under the title Devotions upon Emergent Occasions, specifically Meditation XVII:

"No man is an Island, intire of it selfe; every man is a peece of the Continent, a part of the maine; if a Clod bee washed away by the Sea, Europe is the lesse, as well as if a Promontorie were, as well as if a Mannor of thy friends or of thine owne were; any mans death diminishes me, because I am involved in Mankinde; And therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; It tolls for thee."

I'm not trying to be overly dramatic with this. The subject of literal death is primary and obvious, .but there is a legitimate metaphorical connection to be drawn from it too.

Don't ask me for explanations of what I mean. I don't have to draw anybody a map of what has gone on in this most recent episode, we all know what we saw.

Domineering, arrogant, entitled people disguest me -- the ones who have a need to constantly bend others to their will in some way. I see in that the character flaw, among all others, that is the most potentially destructive... to myself and other people. Add to that a complete disregard for the truth, which infers along with it zero objectivity and integrity, and "Houston, we have a problem".

That sort of thing, I'm going to resist every way I can. To me, that is what a liberal has to do in this world; it's the most basic calling we all have.

And to see RW tactics used here openly, repeatedly, is to say the least very disappointing. That is the kindest way I can put it. If you don't know what I mean by that, think of the RW's tactics and then ask yourself if you've seen that done around here this week.

(This song wasn't necessarily about the Spanish Civil War, the subject of Hemingway's book -- but it could have been. It certainly fits.)

p.s. To those who would like to make fun of my (admittedly corny, but I like that occasionally) little tune Fernando in order to create a diversion from the point, let me note in advance the simple fact that it's one of only 38 songs to sell 6 million copies the first year.

That's my opinion (it's what we're here to give after all), YMMV.

Who are you really

Meta: A Love Story, or Trollology Condensed

Rick: Who are you really, and what were you before? What did you do and what did you think, huh?
Ilsa: We said no questions.
Rick: Here's looking at you, kid.

(Casablanca)

Another one...

Rick: I'm on their blacklist - their roll of honor!

[hr]

Who knew Casablanca was so like Meta?

That's it, it sums up the whole shebang of posting here in a nutshell, imo.

About Waiting For Everyman

My namesake... http://youtu.be/GgXzWhexJh0 ... If I were asked to recommend only one political / history book it would be this one... http://www.amazon.com/Treason-America-Anton-Chaitkin/dp/0943235006 ... Treason in America: from Aaron Burr to Averell Harriman, by Anton Chaitkin. I do NOT endorse all of the views by Chaitkin external to this book, nor all of his actions, nor all of his associations, but I DO highly recommend this book. It is one every US citizen and everyone interested in its history should read. It it well written, meticulously sourced, and it is eye-opening -- even for those who consider themselves already knowledgeable. If you have not read it before, you need to read it, it is need-to-know information, and what it has to say is not going to be found in many places, if anywhere, else. That is my tip for whoever is passing by.
