Those who can, TEACH.

Those who can't pass laws about teaching.

Jameis Winston's attorney needs to STFU!

A reporter asked him why the woman would subject herself to a rape kit and the rest.
That jackass said well it could have been regret or did not like what had occurred.

I still don't know what happened. I do know that women don't usually go through all of the procedures because it is humiliating and opens them up to a lot of abuse especially if a football player is involved.

I think he isn't helping Winston or himself.

He also said she is not a victim but an accuser. The TPD effed this up so bad that a lot of info was lost because of time. He is now saying she might be prosecuted for false reporting.

Juanita Jean: Fun With Guns: Square Peg, Round Hole Edition

So, it’s Tennessee and your sister thinks she hears a prowler outside. She calls you instead of the police to come shoot somebody.

When you get there, you have your .357 Magnum but there’s a problem. You have no ammo for your .357.

His sister gave him .38 caliber ammo, and when he tried to force the round into the weapon by tapping it with his pocketknife, the round went off, striking him in the hand.

See, a real man would have gone outside and killed the prowler with a pocket knife.

But the best part of this story is yet to come.

Carlie Indmon Phillips, 45, sustained the wound Sunday night at a home on Hillbilly Way and was taken to Methodist Medical Center for treatment of an injury…

His sister lives on Hillbilly Way. Damn. That’s some delightful stuff.

Well I had to go to the doctor because my cat bit me and my hand became infected.

I have 2 16-year-old cats, and the one that bit me is deaf. I try very hard not to startle her because that's when she will bite. She isn't a biter at any other time. This may happen once a year when she does actually break the skin.

I was checked and received an antibiotic. When I got home, I received a call from the health department. I had to give them info about me and my cat. She has all of her shots, and she never goes outside. I have been treated twice before and nobody called me.

The lady was very nice, and she informed me that someone would be coming by to look at my cat. Then she started talking about a 10 day quarantine. Before I could say WTF, she said I would have to sign a paper and keep her inside. I was very glad to hear that because she does not do well if I have to leave her at the vet's.

So I am expecting someone from the health department to visit. I assume they want to make doubly sure about her for some reason. She is a recidivist after all.

I hope whoever comes is not on a power trip. I have run into some people who act like gawd in jobs where they have to make sure that all procedures are followed. Fire marshals can be the worst in that area. They would check stores I worked in, and invariably act like NapoleonFD. I know they have a job to do, but they don't have to be a prick about it. One fire marshal threatened to throw the manager in jail every time he found a problem no matter how minor. We gave the manager a tin cup for his birthday so he could rake it back and forth across the bars.

I hope this is not some inquisition. I am not worked up about it, but I will be if for some reason they try to take her. She just had a vet visit and he said she looked great.

There's an epic battle at the Vatican btw the Pope & The Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith

<snip>
All this will meet with wide approval far beyond the Catholic church. His undifferentiated rejection of abortion and women's ordination will, however, probably provoke criticism. This is where the dogmatic limits of this pope become apparent. Or is he perhaps under pressure from the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith and its Prefect, Archbishop Gerhard Ludwig Müller?

In a long guest contribution in Osservatore Romano (Oct. 23), Müller demonstrated his ultra-conservative stance by corroborating the exclusion of remarried divorcees from the sacraments who, unless they live together as brother and sister (!), are ostensibly in a state of mortal sin on account of the sexual character of their relationship.

As Bishop of Regensburg, Müller, as a clerical hard-liner who provoked numerous conflicts with parish priests and theologians, lay bodies and the Central Committee of German Catholics, was as controversial and unpopular as his brother bishop at Limburg. That Müller, as a loyal supporter and publisher of his collected works, was nevertheless appointed CDF prefect by Papa Ratzinger, surprised people less than the fact that Francis confirmed him in office quite so soon.

And worried observers are already asking whether Pope Emeritus Ratzinger is in fact operating as a kind of "shadow Pope" behind the scenes through Müller and Georg Gänswein, [Benedict's] secretary and Prefect of the Papal Household, whom he also promoted to archbishop. One remembers how in 1993 Ratzinger as cardinal whistled back the then-bishops of Freiburg (Oskar Saier), Rottenburg-Stuttgart (Walter Kasper) and Mainz (Karl Lehmann) when they suggested a pragmatic solution for the problem of remarried divorcees. It is revealing that the present debate 20 years later was again triggered by the Archbishop of Freiburg, namely Robert Zollitsch, the president of the German bishops' conference. It was Zollitsch who ventured a fresh attempt to rethink pastoral practice as far as remarried divorcees are concerned. And Francis?

The Pope still holds positions that are regressive. Am I satisfied with this? No. Justice comes too late too many times.

However, he has seriously left the reservation and the hierarchy at the Vatican is apoplectic. He is trying to shift the focus from social issues such as abortion to helping the poor. This is a radical change and the conservative priests and others have no idea how to respond.

Moving the Catholic Church as a whole is like turning the Titanic. We all want it to turn on a dime and that's not going to happen. As change goes for the Catholic Church, the Pope is moving at light speed compared to the speed at which shifts usually occur.

As the article states, he has a battle on his hands behind the scenes. As battles go, this one is probably off the charts. However, when the Pope speaks millions of people hear him. The Vatican can issue corrections all they want. Their influence on the majority of the faithful is small compared to that of Pope Francis.

Pope Francis is one of my 50/50 people. This is temporary for now. These are individuals who have negative records as well as positive ones. They cannot be viewed through a zero sum lens. All of it has to be considered in evaluating them.

LBJ is another of my 50/50 people. His record on civil rights and other domestic issues is tremendous. However, his moves regarding Vietnam create a huge negative history of him.

I consider Bobby Knight to be a 50/50 individual. On the positive side, his players graduated and he did not have problems with the NCAA. Google Landon Turner and find out what Knight did for him. On the other hand, his behavior towards players and in other instances was execrable.

Do I trust Pope Francis? No. I don't think he should be given a pass and not scrutinized. Any group with power needs to be closely watched.

As it is, watching the Pope is fascinating. I expect him to release a mix tape at some point.

Guess who was given the LBJ Liberty and Justice for All Award by the LBJ Foundation?

Washington (CNN) - Former President George H.W. Bush, a leader of one of the nation's most prominent Republican families, was honored Tuesday for his years of public service and leadership for civil rights - by a foundation named for his Texan predecessor and also one of the nation's most noted Democratic presidents.

Bush was given the LBJ Liberty and Justice for All Award by the LBJ Foundation. The award was presented to the former President in his Houston office by the daughters of Lyndon Baines Johnson - Lynda Johnson Robb and Luci Baines Johnson.

"For several years now I've been declining awards of all kinds, but this one was different. Barbara and I both had such great respect for LBJ and of course we loved Lady Bird. They were both great Americans, and great Texans, who loved their country and their state. I can't imagine if they had not been a part of our history. So I immediately said 'yes,' when our friends and neighbors in Austin invited me to receive this award," the former President said in a statement. "But I do wonder what LBJ would say?"

The award is meant to recognize those who strive to help make sure all Americans can equally share the benefits of citizenship.

"Presentation of this award to President Bush recognizes his demonstrated qualities of civility and bipartisanship in public service," LBJ Foundation Chairman Larry Temple said. "The period of his presidency stands as a well-remembered time when those qualities characterized leadership in our country at the highest levels – a condition from which all Americans benefited. I know President Johnson would be elated with the presentation of this award, the LBJ Foundation's highest honor, to President Bush."

Bush is only the second recipient of this award. Civil rights pioneer Rep. John Lewis, D-Georgia, was the first in 2010.
