Please help. A consumer is getting stonewalled about a $751 charge.

It is highly unusual for a corporation to stonewall the Haggler. But that began to happen two months ago, when the Haggler contacted a Texas-based electronics and appliance chain called Conn’s, which has more than 80 stores, mostly in the South and Southwest. He wrote on behalf of a customer named Grace Bunmi Salako Smith. She is a Nigerian immigrant with a Ph.D. in public health who lives in Dallas, where she teaches children in juvenile detention.

Last year, Ms. Smith went to a Conn’s in Dallas and bought a refrigerator and a computer, for a total of $2,587. She says that she could have bought this merchandise outright, but that she wanted to enhance her credit score so she would have better standing to make investments in real estate. So she financed it with a special offer from Conn’s, the terms of which allow her to pay no interest as long as she makes regular payments each month.

Ms. Smith says she abided by those terms, though the story becomes complicated. It’s clear that Ms. Smith made at least one late payment, as a protest because no one at Conn’s would service her then-broken refrigerator. But that late payment was explicitly forgiven by the company, as detailed in a Conn’s document that Ms. Smith scanned and forwarded to the Haggler.

In April, when she went to Conn’s to make her final payment, and close out her balance, Ms. Smith was informed that she owed $751 in interest. According to Conn’s, she had broken the terms of that zero-interest program.

So here is the question: Is Conn’s correct?

Mrs.Smith deserves to get a clear answer from them especially since she has a document forgiving the late payment. I don't know how or if that affects her original contract.

They may be right, but ignoring her is wrong and disrespectful.

When I tweeted that I needed help the response was so quick and from so many people, my heart grew several sizes. Hearts tend to shrink when people are fretting and I am a world class fretter.

I was overwhelmed because I feel so crotchety and I know it carries over too much on DU. When
I get scrunched up, my world narrows and it's hard to find the humor I need. Humor and kindness can unscrunch people.(Most GOPeas are scrunched down to the size of electrons if that.)

DU is a rambunctious place to say the least. However, when it comes to helping animals or stepping up when others are in trouble, DU shines. Freepers have gator arms and don't know how to reach out.

BTW I told Moonpie and Tater about y'all. They yawned and wanted to know when they were getting a new toy and fresh treats.

After people here helped brfore, I got things squared away and was doing ok. I had a little breathing room after a while.

Then came March and Mousie passed and Scat followed her. I was able to handle those bills.
Then I began to have gall bladder attacks(they think.) After each attack was over, food was optional for a few days. I think the stress from Mousie and Scat ruined my digestive system.

After that was the the coup de grace. My car blowed up. Actually it hasn't blowed up yet, but the center muffler is almost broken apart. I can drive it(cross my fingers), but I have to get it fixed.

Thank gawd for once that SC doesn't inspect anything as far as I can tell. The vehicles I have seen on the road......

I realize DU is not my bank. I don't blame anybody for what they think. I'm out of options. I know I am not as bad off as some. If you think badly of me in some way, I've probably beaten you to it.

If anybody can help, it would be very much appreciated. I am trying to scrounge $225. This was literally the very last thing I wanted to do.

Good wishes vibes are also more than welcome and very much needed if you have any to spare.

So that's my tale of woe.(I did have a job interview for a PT position at the library but I wasn't chosen) The only problem will be if I have to fumigate because of locusts.

Please don't apologize if you are 'only' sending good vibes. Those thoughts really pulled through after Mousie and Scat. I wove them into a rope to hold onto until I got my feet back under me again. I still use it from time to time and keep it hanging over my heart.

(UPDATE:7am)That was weird.Heard someone(something) beating on or around my bedroom window.

I was sound asleep when I woke up to a noise of whatever banging around the outside of my apartment window. It took me a minute to orient myself.

It wasn't a frantic banging or a rhythmic noise. Then it stopped. It hadn't lasted very long.

Now this is the part in the movie where the terrified college girl goes to investigate a scary noise in the dark while everyone is thinking "DON'T GO!"

This is also where the jacked up gun fool decides he is going to confront whatever is making the noise instead staying inside and calling the police regardless of the fact that there probably will be shooting (and injury or death.) Then there is the sad fact that the cop may be jacked up too resulting in the same outcome. (I don't have a gun, but I am not going outside to be in the middle of anything)

I'm not terrified, but I'm not going outside. I will check when the sun is up. I 'm wide awake now though.

UPDATE: Now that the sun's up, I went outside to see what I could see. I saw nada.
I'm going to ask my upstairs neighbor if she heard anything. She also has a teenage daughter who might have heard something.
