In new interview, Trump urges Israel to "finish up your war."

Former president Donald J. Trump, in an interview with a conservative Israeli news outlet that was published on Monday, exhorted Israel "to finish up your war," mixing bellicose support for the government of Israel with harsh warnings that the Jewish state was losing international support by providing "a very bad picture for the world."

But while Mr. Trump had typically harsh words for President Biden -- he called Mr. Biden "dumb" -- he offered no prescriptions for what the United States should do, or for what he would do, if elected, to bring the war in Gaza to an end or to advance the cause of peace between Israel and the Palestinians.

The interview with Israel Hayom, a publication started by the conservative casino magnate Sheldon Adelson, was released on the same day that the Biden administration allowed the United Nations Security Council to pass a resolution demanding a cease-fire in Gaza.

Throughout the past five and a half months, Israel has waged a full-spectrum war against the civilian population of the Gaza strip.
The United States and other Western nations have supplied not only the weapons for this war of annihilation against the Palestinians, but also key political and diplomatic support.

The results of the actions of this coalition of the killing have been devastating.
Conservative estimates hold that more than 31,000 Palestinians have been killed, including 13,000 children.
More than 8,000 people remain missing, many of them believed to have died in the rubble of buildings destroyed in Israeli attacks.
Famine conditions are now present in large swaths of the Gaza Strip.
The fact that the International Court of Justice has found grounds to investigate Israel for plausible acts of genocide in Gaza has not deterred the U.S. and it's allies from continuing to facilitate Israel's war.

At the U.N. Security Council, China and Russia have vetoed a U.S. draft resolution on the war in Gaza. The U.S. resolution appeared to call for a ceasefire, but it was written in a way to make the resolution unenforceable.
Our guest, Phyllis Bennis says this was mere "wordplay" and a "convoluted" attempt by the Biden administration to play both sides, as it comes under increasing internal and external criticism over it's close relationship with Israel.

Bennis is a fellow at the Institute for Policy Studies and an international policy adviser to Jewish Voice for Peace.
She has written several books on U.S. foreign policy and the Middle East.
When it comes to dissent over U.S. support of Israel, "the pressure is mounting in ways that I've never seen," she says, adding that it's imperative for the public to keep on pushing for more action, as "it's crucial that the weapons sales be cut" and a real ceasefire be reached immediately.

"There has not been a formal distribution of what the U.S. is actually going to put on the table for the vote this morning.
(There are) at least three different versions circulating around. But they're all about the same on the critical description.
It's in the first paragraph. The first operative paragraph of the resolution uses the language of an immediate ceasefire, but it doesn't actually call for a ceasefire. What it does is recognize the importance of a ceasefire, and then says, "And therefore, we should support the negotiations that are underway in Doha, Qatar."
These are the negotiations that have been underway for weeks. They are mainly focused on the release of hostages, as well as the parameters of a short-term ceasefire, probably six weeks.
But the key thing was that the U.S. draft does not call for an actual Security Council call for a ceasefire."

"Work until you drop dead": House GOP plan takes axe to Social Security, healthcare and civil rights

The Republican Study Committee has released it's proposed 2025 budget which would take an axe to major elements of the social safety net, healthcare system, and civil rights, while affecting nearly every American, either now, or in the future.

Calling it "Fiscal Sanity to Save America," the budget proposal from the far-right MAGA-affiliated group of about 170 House Republicans would effectively create a national abortion ban and ban on in-vitro fertilization (IVF) by creating legal protections for human embryos starting at "the moment of fertilization."
It mentions the word "abortion" 77 times.

Speaker of the House Mike Johnson is a member and former chairman of the Republican Study Committee.

"The House GOP Study Committee (largest House GOP bloc) released a budget endorsing the Life at Conception Act, which would provide 14th Amendment legal protections at every stage of life," explained Joseph Zeballos-Roig, Semafor's domestic policy and politics reporter.
"Amounts to near-total ban on abortions with no IVF exceptions."

U.S. Rep. Bill Pascrell (D-NJ) blasted the Republican Study Committee's budget
"Wow, today a group comprising 80% of Republicans in Congress explicitly endorsed a far-right bill that would impose a national abortion ban and outlaw birth control and in vitro fertilization IVF," he wrote on X.

"Just now 80% of Republicans in Congress called for raising the retirement age and tying Social Security to life expectancy. Republicans want you to work until you drop dead," he added minutes later.
