Sign petition to kick Koch off of Museum boards

The world’s top scientists, including several Nobel Prize winners, just released an unprecedented letter calling on science and natural history museums to cut all ties to the fossil fuel industry.*

The letter comes on the heels of recent news that Smithsonian-affiliated scientist Willie Soon took $1.25 million from the Koch brothers, Exxon Mobil, American Petroleum Institute and other covert funders to publish junk science denying man-made climate change, and failed to disclose any funding-related conflicts of interest.

In particular, the letter points a finger at the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History (D.C.) and the American Museum of Natural History (NY), where David Koch is a member of the board, a major donor and exhibit sponsor.

Despite Known Risk of Spill, U.S. to Let Shell Drill in Arctic

In spite of estimates of a 75 percent or greater chance of an ecologically disastrous spill, the U.S. government is expected this week to give the green light to Shell Oil’s plan to restart drilling for petroleum in the Arctic.

Environmentalists who have campaigned against the proposed exploration by the Anglo-Dutch group in the Chukchi and Beaufort seas off Alaska are likely to protest the decision, which was made by Interior Secretary Sally Jewell.

Protest Museum Silencing of Palestinians!

On March 17, the Missouri History Museum, which was set to host an exciting solidarity panel "From Ferguson to Ayotzinapa to Palestine" two days later, informed organizers that the panel would be cancelled unless Palestinians were removed from it. Join groups Organization for Black Struggle, Latinos en Axion StL, the St. Louis Palestine Solidarity Committee, and many more in protesting this blatant attempt to divide organizations of color and silence the Palestinian narrative.

Please EMAIL AND CALL Missouri History Museum president, program director, and chair of the board today to demand that they reinstate the panel and issue an apology. You can customize the message below. Just input your info and it will be sent to all at once. -

Lion cubs turn into stars of Gaza family

Gaza City (Palestinian Territories) (AFP) - Two lion cubs have become star members of a family living in a Gaza refugee camp as a result of the weak economy in the war-battered Palestinian territory.

A cash-starved zoo in Rafah, in the southern Gaza Strip, sold the cubs to Saadi Jamal, a Palestinian Authority security employee who has taken them home -- to the delight of his four children and their neighbours.

For the past 10 weeks, "they've been living in the house like members of the family", he told AFP. The children in the three-room apartment and their local friends "play all day long with the cubs".

But this extended family comes at a price.

They gobble up half a kilo (one pound) of meat a day, a tall order in Israeli-blockaded Gaza where prices have soared since a devastating war last July-August against the Jewish state.- {sic}
