Robert Reich’s sobering message for wealthy elites: You’ll soon be poor if you keep screwing over

Workers (This really goes for the Corporate shills of Both parties)

You are the captains of American industry, the titans of Wall Street, and the billionaires who for decades have been the backbone of the Republican Party.

You’ve invested your millions in the GOP in order to get lower taxes, wider tax loopholes, bigger subsidies, more generous bailouts, less regulation, lengthier patents and copyrights and stronger market power allowing you to raise prices, weaker unions and bigger trade deals allowing you outsource abroad to reduce wages, easier bankruptcy for you but harder bankruptcy for homeowners and student debtors, and judges who will let you to engage in insider trading and who won’t prosecute you for white-collar crimes.

All of which have made you enormously wealthy. Congratulations.

But I have some disturbing news for you. You’re paying a big price – and about to pay far more.

First, as you may have noticed, most of your companies aren’t growing nearly as fast as they did before the Great Recession. Your sales are sputtering, and your stock prices are fragile.

Canadian island invites Americans to escape there should Trump win presidency

he rise of Donald Trump has given an unlikely boost to a Canadian island offering to take in Americans as political refugees if the Republican real estate mogul wins the White House.

Cape Breton Island, off the tip of the Nova Scotia peninsula on Canada’s Atlantic coast, has put out a welcome mat for anyone unable to stomach a Trump presidency.


A local radio disc jockey hatched the idea, designing a website linked to the local tourist bureau to provide an escape for Canada’s wary neighbors to the south.

“Don’t wait until Donald Trump is elected president to find somewhere else to live!” says the site.

“Start now, that way, on election day, you just hop on a bus to start your new life in Cape Breton, where women can get abortions, Muslim people can roam freely, and the only ‘walls’ are holding up the roofs of our extremely affordable houses.”

Trump scoops up angry, disillusioned voters

Donald Trump wins, wins, wins, just as he said he would. From ultra-conservative fringes to the Republican mainstream, the White House hopeful is assembling a formidable coalition of angry voters that could carry him to the party nomination in July.

“So we won the evangelicals. We won with young. We won with old. We won with highly educated. We won with poorly educated; I love the poorly educated,” Trump exulted Tuesday night after his victory in the Nevada caucuses, accurately citing the findings of entrance polls there.

“Of course, if you listened to the pundits, we weren’t expected to win too much and now we’re winning, winning, winning the country. And soon, the country is going to start winning, winning, winning.”

Trump’s chances of accomplishing that are better now that he has shown he is not just a single faction candidate.
He has won nominating contests in three very different states: New Hampshire, where more than a quarter of voters described themselves as “moderates;” South Carolina, where three quarters of voters were evangelical Christians; and Nevada, where 15 percent of voters were “non whites,” the highest proportion of minorities to date in the primaries.

Arrest photo of young activist Bernie Sanders emerges from Tribune archives

A Chicago Tribune archival photo of a young man being arrested in 1963 at a South Side protest is Democratic presidential hopeful Bernie Sanders, his campaign has confirmed, bolstering the candidate's narrative about his civil rights activism.

The black-and-white photo shows a 21-year-old Sanders, then a University of Chicago student, being taken by Chicago police toward a police wagon. An acetate negative of the photo was found in the Tribune's archives, said Marianne Mather, a Chicago Tribune photo editor.

"Bernie identified it himself," said Tad Devine, a senior adviser to the campaign, adding that Sanders looked at a digital image of the photo. "He looked at it — he actually has his student ID from the University of Chicago in his wallet — and he said, 'Yes, that indeed is (me).'" Sanders, a U.S. senator from Vermont, was traveling Friday near Reno, Nev., on the eve of the state's Democratic presidential caucuses.

Sanders' activism at the University of Chicago has been in the news recently, after questions arose about a different photo that appeared to show Sanders addressing students at a 1962 campus sit-in. At first, several alumni identified the speaker as another man, according to the University of Chicago Library's Special Research Center. The other man is no longer alive.

Early Primary Voting Opens here in LA.

Early voting starts Saturday for presidential primary

The Louisiana presidential preference primary for Republicans and Democrats is March 5, but early voting starts Saturday and runs through Feb. 27.

Secretary of State Tom Schedler said in a news release Wednesday voters can cast early ballots daily from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., except for Sunday.

Only voters who are registered to one of the two political parties will be able to vote for their party’s nominee, because, unlike most elections in Louisiana, the presidential primary is a closed primary.

The Democratic Party and the GOP will also have closed state central committee and parish executive committee elections.

Those who aren’t party affiliated may still have local elections to vote in

Illinois Court To Hear Case Challenging Cruz's Presidential Eligibility

















A judge in Illinois will hear arguments on Friday for a case challenging Sen. Ted Cruz's (R-TX) eligibility to run for president, according to USA Today.

Lawrence Joyce filed a complaint with the Illinois Board of Elections charging that Cruz is not a "natural born citizen." The board of elections ruled against Joyce earlier in February, writing that Cruz "is a natural born citizen by virtue of being born in Canada to his mother who was a U.S. citizen at the time of his birth as the candidate did not have to take any steps or go through a naturalization process at some point after his birth."


Joyce appealed the decision and Judge Maureen Ward Kirby will hear arguments for the case at the Circuit Court of Cook County in Chicago on Friday.

Joyce told USA Today that he is a Ben Carson supporter, and that he is worried that if Cruz secures the Republican nomination, his candidacy will then be derailed by lawsuits filed by Democrats.

Texas judge set to send ‘affluenza’ teen’s case to adult system

A Fort Worth juvenile judge is expected to decide on Friday to transfer the case of America’s so-called “affluenza” teen to the adult court system, where the 18-year-old could become eligible for release on bond.

Tarrant County prosecutors and attorneys for Ethan Couch have said they expect Judge Tim Menikos to transfer probation supervision to adult court for his conviction in juvenile court for killing four people while driving drunk in 2013.

A psychologist testifying on Couch’s behalf said he was so spoiled that he could not tell right from wrong, describing him as being afflicted with “affluenza.” Couch received probation for causing the deaths, spurring outrage, while the affluenza defense was widely ridiculed.

Couch has been in custody since he was brought back from Mexico last month. He and his mother, Tonya Couch fled there is December apparently to avoid Ethan Couch’s arrest for violating the probation deal that had kept him out of jail.

The Internet believes Ted Cruz is the Zodiac killer — and so far he hasn’t denied it

Something spooky happens when you ask Google about Sen. Ted Cruz.

When you type the words, “is Ted Cruz the,” the first result search engine’s autofill feature suggests the Texas senator and Republican presidential candidate might be the infamous Zodiac killer.

Suspicions appear to have first been raised in 2013, before Cruz announced his presidential candidacy, but the rumors have gained steam as the conservative senator has established himself as a top contender for the GOP nomination.



Never mind that Cruz was born in 1970, nearly a year after the serial killer’s last victim was fatally shot in San Francisco.

The propagators of this Internet rumor say the evidence is hiding in plain site.
