Having been in at the grassroots and for a brief time a leader in several short term movements, and a many hour volunteer in a party office, and around more than a few elected politicians, I have a fairly unique take on what playing a part in democracy entails.
You have to be willing to be beat down and rise again. You have to take the losses as an education. Learn from each mistake. Make sure of what it is you are asking people to do, and take all the help you can get.
It means hours at meetings. It means facing opponents with respect - when they deserve it - and smashing them when you can.
It means helping leaders lead, and doing grunt work, and kissing some ass. You must overlook the faults and mistakes of others on your team and work to get them to get with the program.
My view on what to do tomorrow, were I still active, would be to find new local party leadership material and work with them to build an organization that is inclusive and makes good use - real good use - of volunteers time.

Adm.Hyman Rickover, the Father of the Nuclear Navy and of Shippensport nuclear reactor. In the twilight of his career, he testified before Congress in January 1982. Below is an excerpt from his testimony. Given who this man was and what he did, his statements were profound.
Here’s an excerpt from Rickover’s testimony:
“I’ll be philosophical. Until about two billion years ago, it was impossible to have any life on earth; that is, there was so much radiation on earth you couldn’t have any life — fish or anything. Gradually, about two billion years ago, the amount of radiation on this planet and probably in the entire system reduced and made it possible for some form of life to begin…
Now when we go back to using nuclear power, we are creating something which nature tried to destroy to make life possible… Every time you produce radiation, you produce something that has a certain half-life, in some cases for billions of years.
I think the human race is going to wreck itself, and it is important that we get control of this horrible force and try to eliminate it… I do not believe that nuclear power is worth it if it creates radiation.
Then you might ask me why do I have nuclear powered ships. That is a necessary evil. I would sink them all. Have I given you an answer to your question?”

The Sec. of the DoE, Moniz, stood in Japan and called Fukushima a Global Event.
Several west Coast Senators are alarmed at the impacts heading their way.
The science says that radioactive material from Fukushima has been found all over the N. Hemisphere.
The leading Oceanographer group in the US, Woods Hole, thinks they will find radioactive material from Fukushima on the west coast, factually labeling the event "unprecedented and ongoing" in the Pacific ocean.
So, MM, your opinion carries no weight whatsoever.
You don't even back it up with a single link, or any science.
In fact, you are not interested in an open and honest debate, but merely taunting, just like climate deniers do.

To be clear.. I wished Fukushima had never blown sky high. But it did. As an environmentalist it is my duty to try and understand the impact this unprecedented and ongoing event may have on the planet.

Not sea stars.
The item in question is about is the Dept. of Energy's results of sampling of mussels in the Aleutians, where increased amounts of plutonium were found above the 2004 tests. It also found cesium 134 in increased amounts and that was described as being from Fukushima. But hey, you know that Fukushima is spread around the N. Hemisphere.

The U.S. Department of Energy Office Legacy Management (LM) has a long-term stewardship mission to protect human health and the environment from the legacy of underground nuclear testing conducted at Amchitka Island, Alaska, from 1965 to 1971. Atmospheric monitoring in the United States showed elevated cesium activities shortly after the nuclear incident. LM scientists anticipated that atmospheric transport of cesium would potentially increase the cesium activities in the 2011 biological samples collected near Amchitka. Because cesium-134 has a relatively short half-life of 2 years and indicates leakage from a nuclear reactor, it is a clear indicator of a recent nuclear accident.
Because the Amchitka 2011 sampling event occurred soon after the Fukushima nuclear accident, the biota impacted by atmospheric precipitation showed the greatest impact (e.g., species that live in freshwater or shallow ocean waters) when compared to marine biota living in deeper water. This is because ocean currents are a slower transport process than wind currents. LM scientists anticipate that the marine biota will show the impacts of Fukushima during the next sampling event, currently scheduled to occur in 2016.

Here's the thing
What I want is a healthy world full of the rich life that I enjoyed as a kid, wandering the fields and swimming the waters.
In my lifetime that world has changed. Vastly. I look for answers of why the change has occurred and see a few reasons. Chief among those it the release of the nuclear genie. The more I study, the more it becomes clear that the nuclear genie has changed this world via its radioactive pollution.
I want a world that is safe for kids to grow up and live rich full lives. That can not happen with a loose nuclear genie roaming the planet radiating the whole environment. The science says life as we know it can't survive what we have unleashed.
It is my consideration that those who oppose this view do not care as I do for this planet and/or are just ignorant and the facts scare them half to death, and so they are frozen and reduced to dumbass comments and denial. There is evidence of that in this thread.

Your claim is that I declared ""Fukushima radiation still causing dolphin deaths in the Atlantic"
I pointed out that dolphins were sea life that have been reported as dying in the Atlantic. That was in response to the claim from Deep Sea News that no other sea life besides sea stars, seems to be affected.
Dolphins in the Atlantic, along with sea stars in the Atlantic, are sea life, and they are dying, and no one knows why. I do not claim to know why, but am suspicious.
So your accusation is false.
The evidence is that atmospheric deposition from the explosions at Fukushima traveled around the world. And much rained out on the east coast of the US. Florida was especially hit by that deposition. You can read about it on ENEnews.com.
We know that along the east coast of the US flows the Gulf Stream which carries water from Florida up the east coast, where sea stars and dolphins have been found with a mysterious illness.
The scientific method demands that all factors be looked at when mysterious things happen.
Cops of FPD can't believe this is happening
There the cops stand with their shotguns and rifles and armored trucks, and the people keep protesting!
The cops have beat up and killed so many before now and they never had such an uproar from the public.
They are scratching their heads trying to figure out why people all of a sudden got so mad, and why they keep protesting. "We have guns, and we will shoot you!" is the cops message and the people seem to not be scared.
This hasn't happened in such a long time the cops just don't know what to think, except bring in more troops.
I get why the press is so scared
Last night watching the press get run off from where they had been all day, it struck me how submissive the members of the press have become.
No one spoke up for the right of the free-press to assemble. Law officers told them to move, and with barely a whimper, they all packed up and moved away.
Given the violent attacks by police the press have witnessed, and the fact that the press is a bunch of chickens who would just as soon film the neck-wringing of other press members as stand up for the rights of even one dead person, much less a corralled community, I get why the press, as a whole, is scared silly. The cops have the press right where they want them: Scared silly.
