The Real Reason I Support Obamacare

I think this is one of the few quotes that really captures why myself and so many others are pushing for Obamacare to continue...

"Constitutional scholars like Walter Dellinger, who supported the health care law, were quite simply relieved.

'The biggest winners today are all the families who will get to see a doctor when they're sick,' Dellinger said, 'and that is far more important than the legal theory of the politics of this case, and it's enormous.'"

I think a lot of you will agree as well.

Don't Let It Die

It has been 3 months since the murder of Trayvon Martin. It has been 8 months since the beginning of the Occupy Wall street movement. And as we move into the Spring of the 99%, I hope we will keep these events and their spirits in our hearts. Though they may have disappeared from the news, they are not gone. They still spur us on in our cause for justice and freedom. These little sparks in the American people show that we CAN stand up against the injustice that is so often pressed upon us, and they may mark the beginning of a much larger movement. If we continue to remember and continue to hope, I believe we will be well on our way to achieving a better world. Continue your efforts my friends, we are almost there.

The Death Of Facts In An Age Of "Truthiness"

http://www.npr.org/2012/04/29/151646558/if-a-fact-dies-in-the-forest-will-anyone-believe-it

"According to columnist Rex Huppke, there was a recent death that you might have missed. It wasn't an actor, musician or famous politician, but facts.

In a piece for the Chicago Tribune, Huppke says facts – things we know to be true – are now dead.

Huppke says the final blow came on Wednesday, April 18, when Republican Rep. Allen West of Florida declared that about 80 members of the Democratic Party in Congress are members of the Communist Party.

"That was the death-blow for facts," Huppke tells weekends on All Things Considered host Guy Raz.

One call to the Communist Party USA confirmed that this was, in fact, not true. According to them, no one in the U.S. House of Representatives is a member of the Communist Party. Days later, Allen West stood by his comments.

So that led Huppke to the idea that if someone of any political party can say something so patently untrue and stand by it — which seems to happen more and more often, he says — then facts must be meaningless and dead.

"[Facts are] survived by rumor and innuendo, two brothers, and then a sister, emphatic assertion," he says. "They're all grieving right now, but we wish the best for them."

There's another sibling that may be too busy thriving to grieve. Comedian Stephen Colbert coined the term "truthiness" as the notion that truth doesn't lie in books and facts but rather, in your gut. If Huppke is right and facts are indeed dead, perhaps Colbert's satire is our reality. Where does that leave those of us seeking the truth?"

Score one for Colbert. He announced the death of facts and it has come. It's a sad day for intelligent beings around the world.

Peoria bishop compares Obama's actions to Stalin, Hitler

http://usnews.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2012/04/19/11288862-peoria-bishop-compares-obamas-actions-to-stalin-hitler?lite

"The Anti-Defamation League wants an apology from Peoria's bishop following a recent homily comparing President Barack Obama's policies to those of despots Adolf Hitler and Joseph Stalin.

During the message at St. Mary's Cathedral in Peoria, Roman Catholic Bishop Daniel Jenky contended social services for Catholics could be eliminated if Obama's directive to include contraceptives in health insurance continues. Jenky went on to compare the actions to past cultural wars against the Catholic Church."

Except for those Nazis the Church harbored after World War II. This was completely out of line and a huge misplay in policy by the church. He certainly does not represent me as a Christian.
