The Pope talks of helping those who need help and saving the environment

and almost everyone gushes incessantly, despite the homophobia and misogyny of the Church.

Bernie Sanders talks about the same thing, sans the homophobia and misogyny, and people call him a fringe candidate.

Sigh.

Raise your hand if you would EVER cast a vote for President based on being in the same corner of a

map of the US.* I would not.

I think anyone who says he or she chooses a President based on geography is a fool or a liar. And the "pundits" and commentators who seek to explain away Sanders's strong lead--in a purple state, no less--based on the proximity of NH to Vermont are, IMO, both fools and liars. They know better.

* A favorite son or daughter of your own state is a different issue than a candidate from a neighboring state.

NH State Rep. Timothy Smith "Got Bernie's back!"

I read here that NH State Re. Timothy Smith had endorsed Bernie, so I commented favorably on his facebook page. Very promptly, I got an email from Rep. Smith, saying "Thank you for your kind words. He also posted this on his facebook page. (I put in some paragraph breaks that were not in the original.

Rep. Timothy Smith

Friends, I'm deeply touched by the solidarity you've all shown. I was completely unprepared for how much attention my endorsement was going to get, but I hope it helps spread the message that America is ready for a better future. Hundreds of you have sent messages to my inbox, and I can't possibly write a full reply to all of them (my apologies, I just don't have enough time) but I promise I absolutely do read all of them even if I haven't responded.

I'd like to take a moment and answer a couple of questions lots of you have been asking: # My website is http://www.timsmithnh.com/ , you can read all about me and my background on there if you're curious. I maintain the website myself, and my professional background is in computer network administration. My twitter handle is @tjsnh # Yes, I'll be running for re-election, but I don't campaign on the off-year and won't “officially” announce until January. My district is not “safe” for anyone, and tends to elect members of both parties. # Similarly, I don't fund-raise during the off-year (as surprising as that might be) so I'm not currently taking donations. Trust me, I'm touched that some of you have offered – check back in January and I'll have a link up to donate if anyone wants. I use ActBlue (the same site/service Bernie uses).

# Yes, you may freely re-post my endorsement wherever you like. # No, I was not paid or compensated in any way for my endorsement (nor would I want to be). It's from the heart. # I'm not just an endorsement – I'm on the Sanders campaign steering committee here in NH. I'm walking the walk, and doing everything I can to help make sure Senator Sanders takes the NH Primary by storm. # Yes, there has been enormous pressure to endorse a different candidate, but arm-twisting hasn't worked on me since middle school and did not influence my decision. Hopefully other legislators will see the enormous level of solidarity you have all given and be convinced that it's “safe” to do what's right instead of what's easy. # As a state legislator, the correct “title” is simply 'representative' rather than 'congressman', but I'm not the kind of person who gets hung up on titles – you can just call me Tim if you like.

Thank you, all of you, again for helping spread the word and supporting Senator Sanders' campaign. We've all got to do our part – we're going to win this one vote at a time, one state at a time. #GotBerniesBack #FeelTheBern

Even apart from his endorsement of Bernie, this sounds like a great guy. Among other things, no politician, state or federal, has thanked me for posting positively on his facebook page. And he does not accept donations except during campaign years!

Not too late to like his endorsement, if you wish: https://www.facebook.com/Rep-Timothy-Smith-235121411547/timeline/ He thinks it could matter. So do I.

My total political focus is on Senator Bernie Sanders, 2016 Democratic primary nominee,

nothing else. That will be the reality until at least Super Tuesday.

Senator Sanders will either win the 2016 Democratic Presidential primary or he won't. Either way, he will have spread to millions of Americans, very clearly and straightforwardly, a message they desperately needed to hear, having been deceived for so long. (I, for one, learned that I am probably a Democratic Socialist and so are more Americans. http://www.democraticunderground.com/12779483 ) Meanwhile, what the Democratic Party chosen to become is also exposing itself. Both things are revolutionary. Any politician who doesn't "get it" as to this paragraph is in for an unpleasant surprise.

I believe Senator Sanders can win. If he doesn't, I will re-assess then. Meanwhile, I'm working and donating to the very best of my ability.

All else is frippery and shiny objects distracting magpies, including early polls.

Beloved, I heartily recommend all the above to anyone who supports Senator Sanders for President.

Comic Relief Fundraiser: Sanders Perennial Snark Desperation Syndrome, or SPSDS

In essence, SPSDS is an obsessive need to snark at anything, no matter how insignificant and/or banal, connected with Bernie Sanders, however remotely, even if nothing that actually makes sense comes to mind.

Psychiatric professionals sometimes describe SPSDS as "Obsessively flinging any kind of poo at a wall, desperately trying to get some of it to stick somewhere."

Perhaps saddest of all, it's not covered by Obamacare, the disease having been unknown in 2009, when current suffers of SPSDS were praising Sanders. This just shows how many poor souls desperately need to vote for Bernie for President in 2016, even if they can't see that.

To single payer and a full and speedy healing for all sufferers from SPSDS!

Oh! The humanity!

When I noted symptom of SPSDS in the forum that cannot be named , I posted the above to try to raise awareness. Cheeky Android3.14 replied

Temporary relief can be gained by donating to the Sanders campaign

Persons who do this find that colors appear brighter, people seem nicer, and there is a feeling of actually having contributed to something worthwhile.

This was indeed great news, but, alas, not a cure.

The cure for SPSDS, of course, is electing Senator Bernie Sanders President in 2016. First, though, we have to help get him nominated. Sanders Supporters, YOU can help stamp out the symptoms of pathetic SPSDS sufferers forever. Please help NOW. Here's how:

Donate whatever you can, today and whenever you can. https://secure.actblue.com/contribute/page/duforbernie

If you have not already done so, go to https://berniesanders.com/ and volunteer. While at the website, go to https://store.berniesanders.com/ . Order what you need to help, apparel, stickers, totes, campaign buttons, etc. It's all union made in America. (On a number of items, buying in quantity or buying a package saves a lot per unit.)

Give at least a few hours a week to telling people about Bernie, raising money for Bernie and GOTV (Make sure people are registered, know about absentee ballots, etc.) The campaign calls it Sanders Saturdays, and I do the same as a shortcut, but any hours in the week will do.

America is looking to you, Bernie Supporters. America is looking to you. Won't you please help?

Lies in the OP. There is no McGovern Mondale wing of any Party. Mondale was centrist.

I recently started to say to an older woman, "They say Mondale lost because he was a liberal, but". That was as far as I got because she laughed right over me and said, "Mondale was not a liberal." Wiki describes him as centrist. His policies were centrist.

Those elections were not lost because either candidate was a liberals. Before McGovern was even nominated, Democrats knew whoever ran against Nixon was going to lose. Reagan was a phenom of a candidate; the Carter-Mondale administration was troubled. Anyway, it's neither 1972 nor 1980.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=post&forum=1002&pid=3950141 (woo me with science: It's not 1972 anymore.)

http://www.democraticunderground.com/12778825 (demwing: This ain't 1972).

http://www.democraticunderground.com/12778872 ("What about Mondale?" indeed: Candidate Reagan)

http://www.democraticunderground.com/12778873 ("What about Mondale?" indeed: 1976-1980)

http://www.democraticunderground.com/12779277 ("What about Mondale?" indeed: Walter Mondale)

Oh, and Carter did not lose the election because Kennedy challenged him. Kennedy challenged Carter because Carter was going to lose the election. Had Kennedy won that primary, with the way that the Kennedys were revered then, the chances of a Democratic win would have been much greater.

The memes we are fed take the country right because that is what they are designed to do. And they are undemocratic, because the more say we the people have, the less the country will go right. Reject these plutocratic, undemocratic memes at every turn.

Another thread saying how much I appreciate each and every one of you Berners.

I am so sorry to keep repeating myself on this, but I can't help it.

First, thank you to the hosts. They do a fantastic job. I have seen mindless, knee-jerk snark about how many people they block. However, the high number of posters and posters in this group creates odds that stuff happens that they have to address. Second, the number of blocks reflects the number of people who post in this group against the group's purpose and/or violate the group's SO.P. It says nothing about the hosts, except that they are sacrificially diligent.

No one blames or mocks MIRT for how many "name removeds" show up on the board. We THANK them for doing their job for free against an onslaught of trolling posts. Same for the hosts of this group. They can't control the behavior of those who come to this group for the wrong reasons. They can only control their own behavior--which they do beautifully and for our benefit and for free. So, here's a huge thank you to each and every past, current and future host of this group, now: Autumn, L0oniX, Puglover, smokey nj, TM99, marym625, woo me with science, hootinholler, wakemeupwhenitsover and the incredible spirit and inspiration of the sorely missed Jackpine Radical.

Second, thank you to the truly awesome and amazing Omaha Steve for the amazing job he has done in setting up the DU Act Blue account and keeping us informed about its progress, which gently encourages us to donate again. (Minimimum donation is only $1, ya know!)

At this time, the DU account is not far from $20K. That does not represent all the donations from this group to Sanders, but it is a figure few of us could have written a check for on our own--or even collectively without Omaha Steve's great work. Again, the link to donate via the DU account OS set up for you/us is https://secure.actblue.com/contribute/page/duforbernie.

Shameless begging: All the things you read in media and elsewhere on this board show how much Bernie needs donations from people like you/us. You already know what a Bernie Presidency would mean to you, your loved ones and your fellow Americans. So please thank OS and Bernie by using that link to donate as much as you can, whenever you can, even if you have set up a recurring donation.

Last, but not least, I thank each and every (authentic) supporter of Bernie who has ever posted in this group, especially those to whom I have ever been cranky or abrupt. This group has made this board tolerable for me. It has made this campaign season more fun for me and kept me enthusiastic and encouraged.

You're smart; you're funny; and you're endearing. You're my DU family members and I mean that in the best possible way. I am so proud of you and I love you, each and all.
