Trump’s controversial decision to host the G-7 at his golf club creates awkwardness for world leaders

European Council President Donald Tusk said it’s “not at all” appropriate for the E.U. to spend public funds on a Trump business at the 2020 summit.

No, This Charter Bus Company Did Not Sabotage the Trump Rally

Source: DAILY BEAST

The organizers of the “March for Trump” claim a bus line tried to kill their rally by not showing up. But the bus company says it was never paid thousands of dollars.

Published 10.18.19 4:46AM ET

A couple hundred Donald Trump fans rallied outside Congress on Thursday for the “March for Trump,” an event meant to oppose House Democrats’ impeachment investigation. According to organizers, though, there would have been hundreds more people shouting “stop the coup” in Washington’s streets if not for a liberal plot against their buses.

.....................................

................

The no-shows provoked a wave of anger, accusations that the “deep state” had colluded to stop a show of Trump support in Washington, and negative reviews aimed at US Coachways.

But US Coachways has a simpler explanation for what happened—it was never paid for the requested buses due to a series of declined credit card payments.
..................................

For those who made it to the rally, the missing buses were a subject of anger, consternation, and conspiracies. Rally speaker and One America News personality Jack Posobiec compared the bus issue to social media companies “deplatforming” conservatives.
.................................................
“Deep state is diabolical,” tweeted one rallygoer. Another asked Fox News host Tucker Carlson to investigate.

Republicans worried by Mulvaney's confirmation Trump sought exchange of favors with Ukraine

Mulvaney confesses to quid pro quo: Get over it

(CNN)A top White House official said on Thursday that President Donald Trump had withheld nearly $400 million in military aid to Ukraine in order to pressure the country to open an investigation that he thought would politically benefit himself, worrying some Republicans in Congress in the middle of an impeachment inquiry.

Mick Mulvaney, the acting White House chief of staff, told reporters that the Trump administration "held up the money" for Ukraine because the President wanted to investigate "corruption" in Ukraine related to a conspiracy theory involving the whereabouts of the Democratic National Committee's computer server hacked by Russians during the last presidential campaign. When pressed on whether the President sought an exchange of favors, Mulvaney said, "We do that all the time with foreign policy."

It was the first time the White House acknowledged a link between the withheld aid and probes that Trump sought.
Some Republicans were deeply concerned by Mulvaney's comments.

"You don't hold up foreign aid that we had previously appropriated for a political initiative," said GOP Sen. Lisa Murkowski of Alaska. "Period."

Republican Rep. Francis Rooney of Florida called Mulvaney's acknowledgment about withholding Ukraine aid "troubling," saying it is "not a good thing" to do that in connection "with threatening foreign leaders."

Rooney would not rule out the prospects of supporting impeaching the President.
"I'm not going to say anything about that until all the facts are in," he said. "I remember too many people saying, 'Oh, this is a witch hunt against Richard Nixon,' and come to find out it wasn't a witch hunt."

Hours after the news conference, Mulvaney released a statement reversing his prior comments, now claiming there was "absolutely no quid pro quo between Ukrainian military aid and any investigation into the 2016 election.".............................

Romney slams ceasefire deal, calls Trump's Syria move 'a bloodstain' in US history

Source: the hill.

By Jordain Carney - 10/17/19 03:41 PM EDT

Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah) ripped the administration over the recently announced ceasefire in Syria, calling President Trump's decision to withdraw troops "a bloodstain in the annals of American history."

"The announcement today is being portrayed as a victory. It is far from a victory. Serious questions remain about how the decision was reached precipitously to withdraw from Syria and why that decision was reached," Romney said.
................................

Under the agreement Pence said Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan agreed to halt Turkey’s offensive in Syria for 120 hours in order to allow Kurdish YPG forces to evacuate. The agreement will also maintain a “permanent ceasefire” once the evacuation is complete.

Romney added the administration needs to explain what the U.S. role will be moving forward. And the ceasefire, he argued, does not change that the United States "abandoned" the Kurds.

"Adding insult to dishonor, the administration speaks cavalierly, even flippantly, even as our ally has suffered death and casualty," Romney said. "We once abandoned a red line. Now we abandon an ally."

"The decision to abandon the Kurds violates one of our most sacred duties. It strikes at American honor. What we have done to the Kurds will stand as a bloodstain in the annals of American history," Romney continued................................

It’s normal language for trump. They aren’t lying, this is who he is; it’s who he always has been. And he’s deteriorating rapidly. The R Senators know this is going on as he continues to destroy our country. They must help remove this madman from power before we lose our country.

This is a letter that I truly believe Trump wrote from beginning to end. He writes as the President and uses “I” six times. Other than proofreading and cleaning up the grammatical errors, it’s definitely Trumpian.

MOSCOW (Reuters) - The Kremlin on Thursday questioned the tone of a letter sent by U.S. President Donald Trump to his Turkish counterpart Tayyip Erdogan, which it called highly unusual for correspondence between heads of state.

The White House on Wednesday released the Oct. 9 letter, in which Trump urged Erdogan: “Don’t be a tough guy” and “Don’t be a fool!” ................................

Kim rides horse on sacred peak, vows to fight U.S. sanctions

The pictures led to speculation Kim may be considering a new strategy in his dealings with the U.S.

Oct. 16, 2019, 3:52 AM CDT

SEOUL, South Korea — North Korean leader Kim Jong Un vowed to surmount U.S.-led sanctions on his country in state media reports Wednesday as evocative propaganda images were released of him riding a white horse, seen as foretelling significant decisions as his own deadline for U.S. movement on nuclear talks is nearing.

The images in his country's official media showed a bespectacled Kim, clad in a light brown coat, climbing a snow-covered Mount Paektu on horseback. The location and the animal are both symbols associated with the Kim family's dynastic rule.

The highest point on the Korean Peninsula is sacred to North Koreans, and Kim has visited it before making previous major decisions such as the 2013 execution of his powerful uncle and his 2018 entrance into diplomacy with Seoul and Washington.

The images and Kim's comments were released days after his country's first nuclear negotiations with the U.S. in more than seven months fell apart.

South Korean media quickly speculated Kim may be considering a new strategy in his dealings with the U.S. because he's previously demanded Washington come up with new proposals to salvage the stalemated diplomacy by the end of December.

"He, sitting on the horseback atop Mt Paektu, recollected with deep emotion the road of arduous struggle he covered for the great cause of building the most powerful country with faith and will as firm as Mt Paektu," the North's official Korean Central News Agency said..........................................

Turkey's Erdoğan says he won't meet with Pence and Pompeo

Source: axios

Jonathan Swan, Rashaan Ayesh 1 hour ago

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan told Sky News Wednesday that he will not meet with Vice President Mike Pence, who is currently leading a delegation with Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to Turkey to discuss a ceasefire in northern Syria.

Why it matters: Erdoğan, who told the outlet that he will only meet with President Trump, is facing increasing international pressure over his decision to launch an offensive strike against U.S.-allied Kurdish fighters in northern Syria.

Our thought bubble: While Erdoğan may be facing international pressure, the offensive and his defiance of the U.S. is clearly playing well domestically right now.

Trump administration officials tell Axios they are banking that his position will change if and when Turkey’s economy starts suffering the way it did last time Trump hit the country with sanctions to secure the release of American pastor Andrew Brunson.

Behind the scenes: Trump has gloated to advisers that he broke Erdoğan during the Brunson negotiations — that he hit Turkey "so hard" with sanctions and drove its economy down........................................

Blood on his hands: 2020 Democrats slam Trump over Syria

https://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-election-debate-syria/blood-on-his-hands-2020-democrats-slam-trump-over-syria-idUSKBN1WV0N2

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Democratic presidential hopefuls denounced President Donald Trump’s decision to pull U.S. troops back from northern Syria, saying in an Ohio debate on Tuesday he had endangered America’s longtime Kurdish allies while empowering foes Russia and Syria.

In the first Democratic presidential debate since Trump announced the withdrawal, the 12 candidates on the stage were united in painting the Republican president as reckless and a danger to American interests around the world.

But some, including leading progressive candidate Elizabeth Warren, said if they were president they would also seek to end the U.S. military presence in the Middle East.

..............................................

“He has sucked up to dictators, he has made impulsive decisions that often his own team doesn’t understand,” Warren said. “He has cut and run on our allies, and he has enriched himself at the expense of the United States of America.”

Fellow progressive Bernie Sanders, a U.S. senator from Vermont, criticized Trump for first signaling the withdrawal in a tweet.

“What he has done is wreck our ability to do foreign policy, to do military policy, because nobody in the world will believe this pathological liar,” he said.................................

........................

Former Vice President Joe Biden, who has touted his long experience in foreign policy as a key strength of his candidacy, said if he was president he would have protected the Kurds.

“It has been the most shameful thing that any president has done in modern history in terms of foreign policy,” he said.
............................................

“Our commanders across the board, former and present, are ashamed of what’s happening here,” he said. ..................................
