Trump killed COVID talks after Mitch McConnell told him he’d never pass any deal Pelosi makes

It only took one day for President Donald J. Trump to become even nastier than before he contracted COVID-19, but that’s exactly what happened when he turned his back on the American people in their most dire time of need. In a phone call with Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY), Trump was reportedly told to stop negotiations with Democratic Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) because she was “stringing him along.”

Then this tweet came from POTUS: “I have instructed my representatives to stop negotiating until after the election when, immediately after I win, we will pass a major Stimulus Bill that focuses on hardworking Americans and Small Business.”

Trump’s non-starter followed an urgent plea from Federal Reserve Chair Jerome H. Powell, who had said in a speech hours earlier that more economic stimulus was needed to sustain the recovery. In the next moment, Trump instead asked McConnell “not to delay, but to instead focus full time on approving my outstanding nominee to the United States Supreme Court, Amy Coney Barrett.”

Michelle Obama expresses empathy for WH staff 'touched by this virus' and urges Americans to vote

Michelle Obama expresses empathy for White House staff ‘touched by this virus’ and urges Americans to vote.

By Katie Glueck

................
....................

In a 24-minute video, Mrs. Obama appealed to parents and young people, white working-class Americans and people of color, lashing President Trump’s mismanagement of the coronavirus — “he continues to gaslight the American people by acting like this pandemic is not a real threat,” she said — and warning that Mr. Trump’s habit of stoking division could be an effective political tool. She urged voting as the best remedy.

“We can expect that this election will be won by the slimmest of margins, just like it was four years ago,” Mrs. Obama said. “A handful of votes per precinct in Pennsylvania, or Arizona, or Wisconsin, or Florida, or anywhere else will make all the difference.”

As she released the video on her own social media platforms, Mrs. Obama acknowledged Mr. Trump’s Covid-19 diagnosis. She alluded to his decision to return to the White House while still receiving treatment for the virus, and the choice to take a drive outside of the hospital on Sunday, a move that some medical experts saw as dangerous for the Secret Service agents around the president.

“My heart goes out to everyone touched by this virus, from those at the White House, especially the Secret Service and residence staff whose service ought never be taken for granted, to all those names and stories most of us will unfortunately never know,” she wrote on Twitter.

In the video, Mrs. Obama appeared to speak implicitly to white voters who are struggling economically and are put off by terms like white privilege.

“It is frustrating to hear some folks say that you’ve been the beneficiary of privilege, that the color of your skin gives you a head start,” she said. “But right now, the president and his allies are trying to tap into that frustration and distract from his breathtaking failures by giving folks someone to blame other than them. They’re stoking fears about Black and brown Americans.”.................................

Claudia Conway's popular, unfiltered TikTok account is a communications problem for the Trump administration

Claudia Conway, the teenage daughter of the former Trump adviser Kellyanne Conway, is increasingly a thorn in the side of the Trump administration.
She has more than 1 million followers on TikTok, where she blasts President Donald Trump and broke the news of her mother's coronavirus diagnosis over the weekend.
"She's an important political figure in her own right and has a bigger and more relevant audience than most mainstream journalists and broadcasters," said Penny CS Andrews, a communications expert.

The TikTok account of an American teen has cast an uncomfortable spotlight on the Trump administration and its handling of the coronavirus pandemic.

Claudia Conway, the 15-year-old daughter of the former Trump adviser Kellyanne Conway, is an outspoken and often unfiltered critic of the president on TikTok.

.......................

At times, her daughter's unfiltered, popular posts have undermined her.

Over the weekend, Claudia posted a TikTok video confirming that her mother had tested positive for COVID-19. That post triggered a torrent of news coverage, prompting Kellyanne to publicly confirm her diagnosis.

And her diagnosis contributed to coverage that coronavirus had spread widely in and around the Trump White House, as the president and other members of the administration also tested positive..

Justices Thomas, Alito Take Aim At 2015 Marriage Equality Ruling

Source: Crooks and Liars

10/06/20 5:08am

Add Obergefell to the list of Supreme Court precedents religious conservatives will be taking aim at, particularly if Amy Coney Barrett is confirmed to take the seat left open by the late great Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

The Supreme Court rejected Monday an appeal from Kim Davis, the former Kentucky county clerk who cited her religious beliefs in refusing to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples even after the high court's ruling striking down bans across the country.

Following the landmark Obergefell v. Hodges ruling in 2015, Davis was sued by gay couples to whom she denied marriage licenses. Although the Supreme Court unanimously rejected her appeal, conservative Justice Clarence Thomas issued a statement joined by Justice Samuel Alito calling Davis a "victim" of the decision—suggesting that Obergefell now joins Roe and the ruling upholding the Affordable Care Act (ACA) on the conservative justices’ chopping block.

"Davis may have been one of the first victims of this Court’s cavalier treatment of religion in its Obergefell decision, but she will not be the last," Thomas wrote. "Due to Obergefell, those with sincerely held religious beliefs concerning marriage will find it increasingly difficult to participate in society without running afoul of Obergefell and its effect on other antidiscrimination laws."

....................................
"Obergefell was read to suggest that being a public official with traditional Christian values was legally tantamount to invidious discrimination toward homosexuals," Thomas wrote. "Since Obergefell, parties have continually attempted to label people of good will as bigots merely for refusing to alter their religious beliefs in the wake of prevailing orthodoxy." ..............................

Trump takes credit for developing "some really great drugs & knowledge." It is still all ME ME ME.

I will be leaving the great Walter Reed Medical Center today at 6:30 P.M. Feeling really good! Don’t be afraid of Covid. Don’t let it dominate your life. We have developed, under the Trump Administration, some really great drugs & knowledge. I feel better than I did 20 years ago!

The right thing for Trump to say would be, "the great care I've received taught me the folly of my ways. Covid is serious, I'm immediately dropping the lawsuit against the ACA, & will use my remaining time in office to push for universal health care." Instead we get this shit.
