WASHINGTON — An aggressive campaign by Rep. Jim Jordan's supporters is sparking backlash from Republican holdouts, making it harder for him to become the next House speaker.
Several GOP lawmakers, as well as one member's spouse, have reported a barrage of calls and messages pushing them to back Jordan, R-Ohio, in his struggling candidacy. One even said she has received death threats.

Rep. Steve Womack, R-Ark., said his staffers have been “cussed out” in phone calls from Jordan supporters.
And Rep. Carlos Gimenez, R-Fla., said he was so upset with pro-Jordan robocalls to voters in his South Florida district that he personally told Jordan to call off the attack dogs.
On Wednesday night, Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks, R-Iowa, said in a statement that she'd received “credible death threats and a barrage of threatening calls” after she switched her vote to another Republican in the second round of voting.
Jordan’s foes, who for the past two days have blocked him from winning the speaker’s gavel, face an aggressive pressure campaign from his allies and conservative grassroots activists to stop their opposition and flip to yes.
But the bloc of roughly 20 anti-Jordan Republicans say that they aren’t caving and that the hardball tactics are backfiring.
"One thing I cannot stomach, or support is a bully," Miller-Meeks said in a statement, adding that she won’t be intimidated. "Someone who threatens another with bodily harm or tries to suppress differing opinions undermines opportunity for unity and regard for freedom of speech."...................

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) — Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker is taking his abortion-rights advocacy nationwide, introducing on Wednesday a political organization to fund similar efforts outside Illinois, a state that legalized abortion by statute even before the Supreme Court invalidated the right to undergo the procedure.
Think Big America has already funded support for constitutional amendments favoring abortion access in Ohio, Arizona and Nevada. The effort also enhances the profile of the Democratic governor and multibillionaire equity investor and philanthropist. Pritzker has said he’s focused on serving as a Midwest governor, but speculation is rampant that he harbors presidential ambitions.
Fourteen states now ban abortion and debate elsewhere rages since the U.S. Supreme Court’s June 2022 decision to upend the 50-year-old Roe v. Wade opinion that legalized abortion............................

Governor JB Pritzker, who just launched a major organization to win in swing states, is ready to push his measures in other states.
In direct response to Ron DeSantis’ book banning in Florida, Illinois just signed a law that will make Illinois the FIRST state to END book bans!
Oh this is good.
Not only will it stop Illinois libraries across the states from banning books and other materials, but it will DISQUALIFY libraries from being eligible for state grants if they don’t comply.
“In Illinois, we don’t hide from the truth, we embrace it and lead with it,” Pritzker said. “Banning books is a devastating attempt to erase our history and the authentic stories of many.”
Efforts to curb reading materials are “about restricting the freedom of ideas that certain individuals disagree with,” Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias said.
This is a huge win for FREEDOM and education!
Pritzker will promote these issues and convince voters that DEMOCRATS deliver. ......

Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks released a statement Wednesday saying that her office has received death threats following her vote against Jim Jordan for House Speaker on the second ballot.
Miller-Meeks, who voted for Jordan on the first ballot Tuesday, said, "since my vote in support of Chairwoman Granger, I have received credible death threats and a barrage of threatening calls. The proper authorities have been notified and my office is cooperating fully."
On her initial vote, Miller-Meeks, a MAGA Republican herself said, "I respected Jim [Jordan] enough to vote for him, knowing he did not have the votes to be elected...many others urged me to look for a conservative consensus candidate."
The MAGA principle is clear: history of support for Trump or the MAGA movement doesn't matter. Step out of line on literally anything and you will face violence.......................
