Arrests made as hundreds protest Ann Coulter speech at UC Berkeley

Source: LaTimes

Nov. 20, 2019 11:15 PM

Hundreds of protesters converged on UC Berkeley on Wednesday night as conservative author Ann Coulter delivered a speech on campus.

UC Berkeley police said on Twitter that “multiple masked protesters” were arrested at the event but did not provide details about why they were taken into custody.

Videos and photos show large groups of protesters outside the venue where Coulter was speaking, with some signs calling her a fascist and saying she should go home.

The Berkeley College Republicans invited Coulter for a talk entitled, “Adios, America!” Advertising said the writer would discuss the “current United States immigration system and the dangers of mass immigration.”

But protesters said she had no place at the university.

“The university is rolling [out] the red carpet for these fascist speakers to come and spew their hate,” demonstrator Alex Hernandez told NBC Bay Area............................................

Sen. Kamala Harris secured the endorsement of Congresswoman Stacey Plaskett (D-V.I.) before kicking off her Black Women Action weekend in South Carolina, Axios has learned.

Why it matters: That makes 11 endorsements from the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) for Harris, which is more than any other presidential candidate has received so far.

Harris — polling around 2% with black voters, per the latest Quinnipiac poll — is using her swing through South Carolina to focus on black women, who are recognized by Democrats as their party's "backbone" and one of the most powerful political forces in the early-voting state.........................

...................

.............................
Higher Heights endorsed Harris earlier this month. She'll take part in a town hall with black women voters, hosted by the organization, on Saturday.

The big picture: Harris' other CBC endorsements include: Barbara Lee (D-Calif.), Al Green (D-Texas), Frederica Wilson (D-Fla.), Alcee Hastings (D-Fla.), Lacy Clay (D-Mo.), Jahana Hayes (D-Conn.), Bobby Rush (D-Ill.), Danny Davis (D-Ill.), Brenda Lawrence (D-Mich.) and Fudge..................

‘Going to need a bigger police wagon’: Viewers stunned as Gordon Sondland exposes Trump’s ‘criminal syndicate’ on live TV

Published 9 hours ago on November 20, 2019

Gordon Sondland walked into the history books Wednesday morning by delivering damning testimony explicitly implicating President Donald Trump in the Ukraine extortion scheme.

The EU ambassador flipped on the president and other top Trump administration officials — including Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Secretary of Energy Rick Perry — during a devastating opening statement that showed the scheme flowed directly from the White House.................

@RyanLizza

It seems like Sondland left out a few interesting details in his initial testimony!

While I felt a bit gleeful this morning, I have to admit, there is a sadness also with all these vile revelations.

As much as I dislike Trump, I'm not enjoying this. It's actually sad and tragic that our country has come to this.

Republicans caught flat-footed as Trump’s hand-picked man in Kyiv delivers an unexpected knockout punch

The impeachment case outlining Donald Trump’s bad behavior in launching a campaign for personal political gain just took a huge, if not a devastating, slam-dunk leap forward.

The revised testimony of Ambassador to the EU Gordon Sondland today made it certain that he led this campaign for extortion against a vulnerably new Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the direct order of Trump, Rudy Giuliani and the full team of top administration figures.

From Sondland, the news was that rather than this being some kind of hidden, “irregular” mob-type plot being engineered by a wily Giuliani, the months-long effort was right out there in the open.

Republican defenders of the president, left off-guard by the changes in Sondland testimony, were left with disputing details to undermine the witness, and continue their weird argument or that none of it amounts to illegal behavior or abuse of office.

For Democratic committee chair Adam Schiff (D-Calif.), the testimony and the days preceding it, amount to a campaign described in words of only increasing distress for the nation and Trump disdain for the Constitution.................................................

Gov. Evers Stands up for Patients, CNAs Vetoes AB 76 (which would have slashed training hours )

Aids are the first line in caring for patients on a daily basis. They need MORE hours of education, better pay and better working conditions IMHO. I was an instructor if aids not long ago. So many are dedicated but so many leave after a few hours because of the working conditions.

xxxxxxxxxxxxxx,

BREAKING NEWS: Just moments ago, Gov. Evers vetoed Assembly Bill 76 – a Republican-led bill to cut training for Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) in half. This is a win for patients and a win for CNAs.

The Wisconsin State AFL-CIO called upon Governor Evers to veto this dangerous legislation and we are happy to report that he has done so today. CNAs and patients in Wisconsin are better for Governor Evers’ bold action to safeguard our citizens from this reckless Republican-led legislation.

Many organizations and citizens came together to put a stop to this bill. You sent messages and made phone calls, calling on Gov. Evers to stand up for quality patient care and safeguard our most vulnerable citizens with proper CNA training. You took action and our Governor listened.

Thank you, Gov. Evers, for putting patients first.

Slashing hours of instruction is the wrong way to address a shortage of CNAs. No one would suggest lowering training hours for pilots or doctors if there was a shortage in the profession. CNAs are some of the lowest paid health care professionals and are called on to do critical lifesaving work caring for frail, elderly, and sick people. Raising wages and benefits, improving working conditions, and making sure every CNA has the opportunity to join a union -- that’s how we solve the shortage.

Thank you to all who took action calling for this veto. We applaud Gov. Evers for standing up to protect patients and CNA training levels by vetoing Assembly Bill 76.

In Solidarity,

Stephanie Bloomingdale, President

Rep. Carolyn Maloney picked to chair House Oversight Committee

Source: axios

Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-N.Y.) will become the first woman to chair the House Oversight Committee, after defeating Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-Va.) in a caucus-wide vote, Politico reports.

Why it matters: Maloney has been acting as the committee's chair since the Oct. 17 death of Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-Md.) Leading the Oversight Committee will thrust Maloney into the center of the impeachment inquiry into President Trump. The Oversight Committee is one of the congressional panels leading the probe.

What's next: The pick by Democrats is expected to be formalized on the House floor on Thursday, a senior Democratic aide told the Washington Post...................

Soudland did not initially support him during the election (trump has a bee in his pants about this issue as he has ranted about it previously). Recall that Sondland gave his inauguration committee a MILLION bucks!

Giuliani Blasts GOP Counsel: 'I Would Appreciate His Apology'

Source: dailybeast

Updated Nov. 20, 2019 2:49PM ET /

Rudy Giuliani publicly shamed GOP counsel Steve Castor on Twitter in response to a question he asked U.S. Ambassador to the European Union Gordon Sondland during Wednesday’s House impeachment hearing. “Republican lawyer doesn’t do his own research and preparation, and is instead picking up Democrat lies, shame,” Giuliani tweeted. His Twitter attack came in response to an earlier question asked by Castor. “Did you know that Rudy Giuliani has private business interests in Ukraine?” the GOP counsel asked Sondland, who answered that he was not aware. In his tweet, Giuliani went on to insist that he has no financial interests in Ukraine and would “appreciate his apology.”

In Sondland’s opening statement, he put President Trump’s personal lawyer at the center of the pressure campaign on Ukraine’s president to carry out Trump’s political agenda. “We did not want to work with Giuliani,” Sondland testified. He emphasized that he only collaborated with Giuliani at Trump’s orders.
