CNN Written by Cody Fenwick December 17, 2019

Rep. Debbie Dingell (D-MI) became choked up on CNN Monday afternoon while discussing President Donald Trump’s recent Twitter attacks on her, in which he used her late husband’s funeral as a bludgeon.

“It really felt awful,” Dingell said of the attack.

Dingell took the seat her husband, Rep. John Dingell, in Congress after he announced his retirement in 2014. He had been the longest-serving member of Congress.

After Dingell spoke on TV this weekend about Trump’s impeachment, the president lashed out Saturday on Twitter at the congresswoman and invoked her husband’s funeral:

A majority of House members support the articles of impeachment against President Trump, ahead of a vote by the House of Representatives on Wednesday. Mr. Trump is charged with abuse of power and obstruction of Congress as Democrats accused him of violating the Constitution by pressuring Ukraine for help in the 2020 election.

Steve Bannon: Republicans are the 'working-class party;' needs to 'find our AOCs'

Savannah Behrmann
USA TODAY

WASHINGTON -Former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon says the Republican Party is now more representative of "working-class" voters and urged party leaders to "find our AOCs" for upcoming elections.

Bannon was referring to freshman Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., a former waitress and bartender who, at 29, became the youngest person ever elected to Congress, defeating a well-known and powerful incumbent in New York's 14th congressional district.
.................................................

During a sit-down interview with The Guardian, the former Breitbart News executive chairman claimed, “We’ve turned the Republican Party into a working-class party. Now, interestingly, we don’t have any elected representatives who believe that, but that’s a legacy issue. We’ll get over that.”

"We’ve got to find our AOCs,” Bannon continued, while admitting that Democrats had "better casting” in the 2018 midterm elections, which lead to Democrats regaining control of the House majority. Democrats led Republicans in House races by a whopping 8.6 million votes in last year's midterms.

Bannon said that while he doesn't agree with Ocasio-Cortez's political ideology, he still admired her.

Stephen Miller Helped Draft Trump's Unhinged Letter, Reports Say

Source: dailybeast-Reuters

Updated Dec. 18, 2019 6:33AM ET REUTERS

White House lawyers were largely cut out of the drafting of President Trump’s bonkers letter to Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Tuesday, according to reports. The New York Times says Trump received help over the past few days from his top policy adviser Stephen Miller, and the process was led by the director of the Office of Legislative Affairs Eric Ueland. Michael Williams, an adviser to Acting Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney, is also reported to have been involved. However, according to the Times, Pat Cipollone, the White House counsel who will play a big role in the imminent Senate trial, was not involved in the drafting of the letter. Michael Waldman, a speechwriter to President Bill Clinton during his impeachment, said: “Typically a president’s words are weighed very carefully, especially at a moment of constitutional significance... This just seemed to be a chance to change the news stories for a few hours and get it off his chest.” Trump sent the letter a day before the House is scheduled to vote on whether to impeach him on charges of abuse of power and obstruction of Congress.

Trump says Armenia massacres were not genocide, directly contradicting Congress

Source: BBC

The Trump administration has said it does not consider the mass killings of Armenians in 1915 to be a genocide, contradicting a unanimous vote by the US Senate.

The historic vote last week incensed Turkey, which has always denied that the killings amounted to a genocide.

Turkey's foreign ministry on Friday summoned the US ambassador to express its anger over the vote, accusing the US of "politicising history".

Armenia says 1.5 million were killed in an effort to wipe out the ethnic group.
.................................

"The position of the administration has not changed," said State Department spokeswoman Morgan Ortagus in a statement on Tuesday. "Our views are reflected in the president's definitive statement on this issue from last April," she said.

In a statement last April on the anniversary of the killings, Mr Trump said the US paid tribute to the victims of "one of the worst mass atrocities of the 20th century", but he did not use the word genocide. Instead he encouraged Armenians and Turks to "acknowledge and reckon with their painful history".

In the wake of two votes last week in the US House and Senate to recognise the massacres as genocide - a long-awaited symbolic victory for Armenians - Turkey's authoritarian president Recip Tayyip Erdogan threatened to shut down Incirlik air base, which is based in Turkey and hosts US nuclear warheads.

The House Judiciary Committee approved two articles of impeachment against President Trump along party lines on Friday, ahead of a vote by the full House of Representatives this week. Democrats charged Mr. Trump with abuse of power and obstruction of Congress as they accused him of violating the Constitution by pressuring Ukraine for help in the 2020 election.

The full House vote is also expected to fall mostly along party lines, with no Republicans in support of impeachment (here’s a guide to the impeachment process). The New York Times began surveying members and collecting public statements on the articles on Wednesday.

Some Democrats have said they are still evaluating the articles of impeachment. .......................
