Pelosi Derides Mitch McConnell's 'Case Closed' Declaration About Mueller: 'No, I Don't Think So'

Source: mediaite.com

By Tommy Christopher May 7th, 2019, 11:54 am
...................................

On Tuesday, Pelosi took questions at Cornell University Institute of Politics & Global Affairs’ “Inside Congress” event, and brought up McConnell’s then-forthcoming speech, the punch line of which had been telegraphed in advance.

“Today… on the floor of the Senate, Senator McConnell is reported to be saying ‘Doesn’t matter to hear from Mueller, case closed,'” Pelosi said, then added for emphasis “Case. Closed.”

“No, I don’t think so,” she said with a smile. “I don’t think so. But it’s that same mentality that is just not about doing the right, getting results for the American people, but it’s who he is.:

“I know this is a non-partisan setting, but just as a matter of observation, that’s just not a fact,” Pelosi added. “The case is not closed.”

Embattled TN House Speaker Calls Explicit Sexual Texts 'Locker Room Talk'

Source: TPM

By Kate Riga May 7, 2019 11:11 am

Tennessee House Speaker Glen Casada (R) is holding onto his reputation and political viability by his fingertips as wave after wave of scandal crashes over his office, already sinking his powerful chief of staff Monday night.
...................................

Taking a leaf from President Donald Trump’s book, Casada dismissed the conversations Tuesday as “locker talk” of a (three years) younger man.

“Three years ago, I participated in base locker room talk, if you will, amongst two adult men,” he told Tennessee radio station WWTN. “I’m not proud of that.”

“I’m embarrassed about that. In the last couple of years, I have come to realize — I can’t do this and it is not appropriate behavior,” ......................

...........................Casada added to WWTN that he still enjoys “overwhelming” support from House Republicans and that he does not intend to step down, as Democrats gear up to push for the his resignation.....................

Economists flee Agriculture Dept. after feeling punished under Trump

Reports showing farmers hurt by the president’s policies have drawn the ire of top officials.

By RYAN MCCRIMMON

Economists in the Agriculture Department's research branch say the Trump administration is retaliating against them for publishing reports that shed negative light on White House policies, spurring an exodus that included six of them quitting the department on a single day in late April.

The Economic Research Service — a source of closely read reports on farm income and other topics that can shape federal policy, planting decisions and commodity markets — has run afoul of Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue with its findings on how farmers have been financially harmed by President Donald Trump's trade feuds, the Republican tax code rewrite and other sensitive issues, according to current and former agency employees.

The reports highlight the continued decline under Trump’s watch in farm income, which has dropped about 50 percent since 2013. Rural voters were a crucial source of support for Trump in 2016, and analysts say even a small retreat in 2020 could jeopardize the president’s standing in several battleground states.

“The administration didn’t appreciate some of our findings, so this is retaliation to harm the agency and send a message,” said one current ERS employee, who asked not to be named to avoid retribution.

......................................................

Then, in August, Perdue stunned members.........................................

Members of the agency were also caught off-guard last summer when Perdue’s office issued an internal memo directing ERS and other research branches to include disclaimers in their peer-reviewed publications stating that the findings were “preliminary” and “should not be construed to represent any agency determination or policy” — seen as a way of watering down any unflattering data from the department’s own experts................................

Trump has also struck business deals with Tiger Woods.

Woods has talent. No doubt about it. But but but...

https://www.boston.com/news/politics/2019/05/06/trump-tees-up-medal-for-tiger-woods-some-question-motives

....Trump understood the importance of Woods comeback to golf and its fans, tweeting shortly after the Masters win that he was awarding Woods the medal because of his “incredible Success & Comeback in Sports (Golf) and, more importantly, LIFE.”

Trump has been using Woods’ cachet to attract fans to his properties for decades.
Trump got Woods to show up at his Taj Mahal casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey, a day after the golfer’s first Masters victory in 1997. The place was mobbed. Two thousand fans showed up as Woods walked down a 320-foot red carpet, some of them storming steel barricades to get a closer look.

Trump has also struck business deals with Woods.

Golfers at Trump’s club in Doral, Florida, can stay at the Tiger Woods Villa. At a ribbon cutting ceremony in 2014, Woods lavished praise on the future presidential candidate, calling changes he made to the club “phenomenal.”

In Dubai, Woods designed an 18-hole course to be managed by The Trump Organization.

Ethics officials have criticized Trump for not selling off his assets completely and holding the money in a blind trust. Instead, he set up a trust to hold his assets, handed day-to-day management responsibilities to two sons and hired an ethics lawyer to vet business deals. Trump can draw money from the trust and can benefit if his properties increase in value.

“You have to ask whether it’s his true belief Tiger Woods deserves this award or whether he’s doing it to help his business,” said Jordan Libowitz, communications director at Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, a left-leaning public policy group.........

House Judiciary Chairman Jerry Nadler (D-N.Y.) has agreed to meet with the Justice Department on Tuesday — not on Wednesday afternoon, as Assistant Attorney General Stephen Boyd had proposed — to "negotiate an accommodation" to Democrats' demands for the release of special counsel Robert Mueller's full, unredacted report.

Why it matters: Nadler has scheduled a vote on Wednesday for the committee to hold Attorney General Bill Barr in contempt of Congress for failing to turn over the full report. In a letter sent on Monday, Boyd noted that Nadler has yet to take the Justice Department up on its offer to privately view a less-redacted version of the report and invited him to do so before the proposed meeting.

New York Attorney General Sues Trump Treasury Department, IRS

Source: thedailybeast

1. POWER MOVE 5 hours ago

New York Attorney General Letitia James announced Monday that her office has filed a lawsuit against the Trump Treasury Department and its subsidiary, the Internal Revenue Service, for failing to respond to legally mandated records requests. The suit targets a reporting standard released in July 2018, which eliminates donor disclosure requirements for non-501(c)(3) tax-exempt groups for donors who give more than $5,000. The statement alleges that after James’ office sent a FOIA seeking more information about the decision to implement the standard, the IRS did not adequately respond within the mandated time limit. It also claims that the revised standards impede the AG’s ability to regulate those organizations.

“My office depends on these critical donor disclosure forms to be able to adequately oversee non-profit organizations in New York,” James said in the statement. “Not only was this policy change made without notice, the Treasury and the IRS are now refusing to comply with the law to release information about the rationale for these changes. No one is above the law—not even the federal government—and we will use every tool to ensure they comply with these regulations to provide transparency and accountability.”...............................

Justice Department protests Dem decision to set up contempt vote on Barr

Source: the Hill

By Olivia Beavers - 05/06/19 03:08 PM EDT

The Department of Justice on Monday protested a move by House Democrats to begin contempt proceedings against Attorney General William Barr, arguing the House Judiciary Committee was rushing the issue despite Barr's willingness to quickly disclose a redacted version of special counsel Robert Mueller's report.

Democrats earlier on Monday scheduled a vote Wednesday to consider a contempt citation of Barr unless he provides Mueller's full report to Congress along with supporting evidence.
...........................................

Democrats are upset with Barr's letter, which they think helped cement a narrative on the report's conclusions that was more positive for President Trump than was in the actual report.
...............................

"We were disappointed that the Committee took initial steps this morning toward moving forward with the contempt process," Assistant Attorney General Stephen Boyd wrote in the Monday letter to House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler (D-N.Y.).

Trump Campaign Senior Adviser Posts Fake Bombing Video To Slam Omar

Source: TpM

May 6, 2019 8:29 am

A senior adviser to President Trump’s 2020 campaign posted a video of a 2015 Ukrainian missile firing, misidentifying it as rockets being fired into Israel from Gaza, in an attempt to attack Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN), who has been critical of U.S. support of Israel.

In the tweet, Pierson claims that “650 rockets” were fired into Israel, four people were killed and 28 wounded before she called on Omar to respond “to this violence.”

“Will she condemn it?” she tweeted.

After a weekend of violence that the area has not seen since 2014, Israel and the Palestinians reached a tentative ceasefire agreement early Monday morning. At least 22 Palestinians and four Israelis were killed.

Republicans and Democrats alike have been critical of Omar — a supporter of the Boycott, Divest and Sanctions movement — for her stance on the U.S.’s support of Israel. Omar called on Israel to end its “occupation” of the Gaza strip and an end to the “cycle of violence” early Monday just before the ceasefire was announced...........................

Replying to @brianstelter @oufenix

this is exactly what Barr knew would happen tho...he wants to pretend he is being transparent by releasing the full report... bc he knows there is ZERO chance americans will read a 400+ pg report, thats why he didnt release the summaries, this was how he could bury it
