A conservative group that has gone undercover to record officeholders, journalists, Planned Parenthood and other groups is suing the Ohio Elections Commission over a piece of state election law that bars individuals from surreptitiously joining and undermining a political campaign.

Project Veritas filed the lawsuit Friday in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Ohio. It argues that state law violates its First Amendment rights and should be declared unconstitutional.

The organization wrote in its lawsuit that it intends to use the same tactics to investigate campaigns in Ohio during the 2020 election cycle.

The lawsuit stems from a 2018 Ohio Elections Commission complaint filed against Project Veritas, which took undercover recordings in the Grove City office for the combined campaigns of former Gov. Ted Strickland’s 2016, who was running for senate, and presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.............................

A Republican House candidate challenging Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) has made frequent references to the pro-Trump QAnon conspiracy theory, potentially making her the latest QAnon believer to run for federal office in 2020.

Danielle Stella, a Minneapolis special education teacher, made a stir on the right-wing internet in June when she launched her campaign against Omar, a frequent target of President Donald Trump. But her campaign strategy appears to include outreach to QAnon fans, with Stella’s Twitter account posting twice last week using the hashtag “#WWG1WGA” — a reference to the QAnon motto “Where we go one, we go all.”

Stella’s Twitter account also follows a number of prominent QAnon promoters.........................................

For over a year, QAnon believers have been showing up at Trump rallies. And the president even invited QAnon promoters to the White House for a “social media summit.” A South Carolina state representative endorsed QAnon in March, although she later claimed she didn’t believe in it anymore, while a California councilmember quoted from the conspiracy theory in the council dais. There is no member of Congress who openly believes in QAnon, though there are several individuals who are trying to make such history. In addition to Stella, Matthew Lusk, a longshot Republican House candidate in Florida, voiced his support for the conspiracy theory in April. ...................................

Minnesota Senator and presidential candidate Amy Klobuchar pitched herself as an experienced moderate during a series of campaign stops in New Hampshire over the weekend.

At an event at the home of former Democratic state senator Peter Burling in Cornish, Klobuchar told the crowd that candidates for president shouldn’t make promises they can’t keep.

"Especially after they've lived through a president whose lies literally litter the carpeting of the Oval Office."

When asked about how she would defeat Donald Trump in a general election, Klobuchar talked about her success winning many of the same districts in Minnesota that Trump flipped in 2016.

Michigan’s congressional leaders sounded a call to action Monday, urging people attending the national NAACP convention in Detroit to stand up and fight the current administration of President Donald Trump.

U.S. Debbie Stabenow, D-Lansing, used the president’s own words – “I really wish she wasn't from Michigan, I think we should send her back” – when talking about Trump Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos, who hails from Grand Rapids.

"Let’s be clear today, President Trump is a bully and we stand up to bullies," she said. "This is a critical moment in our history, the leadership of NAACP is needed as we see the poison of racism. Donald Trump has given permission to people who used to stand in sheets in the middle of night to stand in the light in front of the microphones. This is wrong."


U.S. Rep. Rashida Tlaib, D-Detroit, who has been the target of racist tweets from Trump, got a standing ovation from the crowd and said, “I’m not going nowhere, not until I impeach this president.”

She also said that "The Squad" is not just the four progressive congresswomen — Tlaib, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York, Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts and Ilhan Omar of Minnesota — who have created a stir at the U.S. Capitol............................

Whatever discomfort GOP officials have with the president’s behavior is cosmetic. They object to the crudeness of the vessel. But its substance aligns firmly with their views. Some, like Walker, believe their shared policy vision so laudable as to be worth advertising and celebrating. The Trump presidency is not a new low. It is where the Republican Party — and America — has been headed for decades.

..............................The H-2B is a visa that is targeted to low-cost, low-skilled workers and is not under any executive review. H2-Bs, in other words, provide temporary work visas for people to fill seasonal jobs that Americans don’t want.

Last year, Trump banned residents of Haiti from obtaining those visas, which caused some headaches at Mar-a-Lago. The resort reportedly employs more Haitians than nearly any other nationality. (Romania is the only other one that comes close, according to The New Yorker.)......................................
