Susan Collins fires back at opponents over 'very sexist' campaign attacks: 'I've never been more offended'
Maine Republican decries 'false,' 'insulting' ad unveiled last week by anti-Trump Lincoln Project

Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, fired back at her political opponents Thursday, telling Fox News Radio's "Guy Benson Show," that she has "never been more offended by attacks as I have been from the left in this campaign."

Collins reserved particular wrath for an ad from The Lincoln Project, a group of onetime Republican political consultants, that hit the airwaves last week and labeled her a "Trump Stooge and a "fraud" whose "voice" is controlled by President Trump and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky.

"The idea that I lack integrity is so false," she said. "I always do what I think is right. My vote [to confirm] Justice [Brett] Kavanaugh's an example of that."...................

Before Biden Backed Out of Speech, COVID Was Detected at Convention Site

Source: daily beast

TESTING TESTING, 1, 2, 3

Three individuals had positive test results this week, a convention aide confirmed. They are now self-isolating.

The same week that presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden formally canceled plans to give a convention speech in Milwaukee, the Democratic National Convention Committee detected three positive cases of COVID-19 at the site.

“As testing increased this week, our system detected three cases which have been reported to the health department and given instructions to self-isolate,” an aide to the convention told The Daily Beast. The aide confirmed that those individuals tested positive.

Officials involved in convention planning say the decision to not host speeches from the site were not directly related to the positive test results there. But they did say that those tests underscored, for organizers, the risks that were inherent in hosting a convention in the midst of a pandemic.

“The reason why they told folks to not travel is we’d been talking to health officials about it. And once we got the guidance from health officials that the pandemic was getting worse, we listened to them,” said a top DNC official. ...............................

Billionaires Are Funding Trump's Voter Suppression Lawsuits

By Donald Shaw,

Published August 4, 2020

With millions of people out of work and struggling to keep up with their bills because of the coronavirus shutdown, the federal government has passed new tax breaks for the rich and created trillions for bailing out large corporations. The 2020 election could give voters a chance to remove the politicians who enacted these policies, but if the Trump administration and Republican Party get their way, many voters will be forced to put their health at risk by voting in-person in November, almost certainly before a vaccine or a reliable treatment for the coronavirus is available.

For the past several months, national Republican have been at war in the courts over state policies — advanced mainly by Democrats, but also by Republicans in some states — designed to make it easier for people to safely vote. In more than a dozen states, including battlegrounds like Wisconsin and Michigan, the Republican National Committee (RNC) has initiated or joined lawsuits to block states from expanding vote-by-mail systems or to oppose Democratic lawsuits in states that have resisted putting universal vote-by-mail systems in place. The lawsuits are financed by a $20 million litigation budget that the Republicans have amassed for fighting Democrats on voting issues.

Trump and Republicans have repeatedly said that mail ballots are more susceptible to electoral fraud, though nonpartisan groups like Brennan Center for Justice say there is “no evidence” that voting by mail results in significant levels of fraud. Trump has said that he believes high levels of voting hurts Republicans.

“My biggest risk is that we don’t win lawsuits,” Trump told Politico in June. “We have many lawsuits going all over. And if we don’t win those lawsuits, I think — I think it puts the election at risk.”

Vice President Mike Pence visits 4th grade classroom in North Carolina
............................

The school, a Thales Academy in Wake Forest, said it was notified on Monday that the student became infected after having contact with an infected family member.

The student was asymptomatic and was last at school on Friday. Teachers who were exposed also will be quarantined.
.................................

Students had their temperatures taken and completed a medical questionnaire after they were dropped off, according to WTVD. Staff and faculty also reminded students to wear masks.

Because the school network is private, it doesn't have to adhere to North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper's school reopening guidelines.
Pence and DeVos visited a campus in Apex, not Wake Forest.

This is the difference between Democrats and Republicans Stim. plan---here........

One thing I notice is that Repugs will give the money to those who filed --the taxpayers while Dems want the money to go to ALL.

Helping the 1% and hoping it trickles down is not a plan and cutting unemployment benefits from $600 to $200 dollars is diabolical. This is the difference between Democrats and Republicans. Call your Senators http://Senate.gov

Repug officials think American public would not have a problem with Trump convention speech at WH..

I have a huge problem with this and have left messages with my Senators and Rep!

This official said Republicans were not concerned about the ethics of staging convention events at the White House and thought the American public would understand,
ub particularly because the president’s travel options are limited by the pandemic. Republicans already have moved the convention celebrations from both Jacksonville, Fla., and Charlotte.

“I will probably do mine live from the White House,” Trump said Wednesday morning. “If for some reason somebody had difficulty with it, I could go with someplace else.”

When asked about Republican concerns over the legality of using the White House for a political event, Trump was dismissive. “It is legal,” he said during a Wednesday evening news conference.
