I brought his grieving fiancée to the SOTU address, delivered by the president who not only failed to protect Jamal, but now brags about helping the man responsible get away with his murder.

Trump likes to boast about US military might and has talked several times this year about the development of what he calls a new "super duper missile," which reportedly turned out to be a new hypersonic glide vehicle being developed for future hypersonic weaponry.

Tensions between the US and North Korea brought the two countries to the brink of war in 2017 and had former Secretary of Defense James Mattis sleeping in his clothes and praying at a local cathedral on the regular, according to the book.
During more recent discussions of those heightened tensions, Trump told Woodward: "I have built a nuclear — a weapons system that nobody's ever had in this country before."

Judge orders resumption of diversity visas

A federal judge in Washington has reportedly ordered the Trump administration to temporarily resume issuing diversity visas to immigrants through a lottery system.
"To be clear, there is no statutory requirement that every available diversity visa be issued each year, " U.S. District Judge Amit Mehta, an Obama appointee, wrote in in his decision on Friday, The Associated Press reported. "But that does not mean that the State Department could effectively extinguish the diversity program for a given year by simply sitting on its hands and letting all pending diversity visa applications time out."
The ruling came in response to legal challenges against President Trump's moves earlier this year to suspend the issuance of green cards and certain visas, including those for temporary workers. Trump in April announced a freeze on diversity visas that are awarded to up to 55,000 immigrants who come from countries with historically low rates of immigration to the U.S. The State Department had issued about 12,000 diversity visas for the 2020 lottery by the time of Trump's order, the AP noted.
Those who earn diversity visas must obtain a green card by the program's Sept. 30 deadline. While Mehta did not order a deadline extension, he called on the Trump administration to "undertake good-faith efforts ... to expeditiously process and adjudicate" this year's diversity visas.
Trump's April order had called for suspending diversity visas through the end of the year. The new order will apply to at least 918 visa lottery winners, the plaintiff's attorney, Curtis Morrison, told Bloomberg Law. ...................

“I’ve also sat in the room when the president had to make the most difficult calls of his presidency: when he had to let a parent know that their son had been killed in the line of duty. That’s a call no president wants to make. And I also saw his commitment to the men and women of our great military.”
That never happened according to the New York Times. Annie Karni writes, “Each branch of the military has its own protocols for notifying next of kin, but all require a field grade officer of equal or higher grade than the member whose death they are notifying to do so in person.”.
She repeated a similar line on Good Morning America. Sanders told George Stephanopoulos, “I sat with him in the Oval Office as he had to make that awful call to let a parent know that their son had been killed in Afghanistan.”
Stephanopoulos asked for a clarification and Sanders admitted she was talking about condolence calls........................

Trump, supporters gather without masks in NC despite request from local GOP official

President Trump and scores of supporters gathered for a rally in Winston-Salem, N.C., on Tuesday without masks, despite the urging of a local Republican official and a state mandate.
Dave Plyler, the GOP chairman of the Forsyth County Board of Commissioners, told The Winston-Salem Journal that he felt Trump should abide by Gov. Roy Cooper's (D) order for individuals to wear a face covering when unable to socially distance.
"It's been ordered by the governor," Plyler told the news outlet. "When in Rome, do as the Romans do. When in North Carolina, do as the governor says."
But Trump, who has only worn a mask a few times in public, did not wear a face covering while in North Carolina. And only a smattering of supporters could be seen wearing masks, some with "MAGA" emblazoned on them.
During his remarks, Trump mocked Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) over the controversy surrounding her visit to a salon where she was caught on camera not wearing a mask. He also quipped that the rally should be considered a "peaceful protest" to avoid violating rules that limit the size of public gatherings.
