NYT said it would not publish the documents, in order to protect its source.......

so, such a whiner. trumpy saying the IRS does not treat him well.

..............................

The paper said it would not publish the documents, in order to protect its source.

At a White House press briefing on Sunday, Trump made wild allegations about plots against him and about Biden, who he will debate for the first time on Tuesday. Eventually, he dismissed the Times report as “totally fake news”.

He said: “We went through the same stories, you could have asked me the same questions four years ago, I had to litigate this and talk about it.

“Totally fake news, no. Actually I paid tax. And you’ll see that as soon as my tax returns – it’s under audit, they’ve been under audit for a long time. The [Internal Revenue Service] does not treat me well … they treat me very badly. You have people in the IRS – they treat me very badly.”..............

Biden Rips Trump 'Trying To Throw Out' ACA By Nominating Barrett For SCOTUS

Source: TPM

September 27, 2020 2:30 p.m.

......................

Earlier Sunday, a day after officially nominating Barrett, Trump boasted in a tweet that the Affordable Care Act “will be replaced with a MUCH better, and FAR cheaper alternative, if it is terminated in the Supreme Court.”

Pelosi told CNN on Sunday that the President is in a “hurry” to confirm his Barrett — a favorite among the right-wing and religious conservatives for her views on abortion and health care — in order to invalidate the Affordable Care Act, given how the court is set to hear a case on the ACA just days after the November presidential election. Both Pelosi and Senate Minority Speaker Chuck Schumer (D-NY) warned that Barrett’s nomination could threaten access to health care as well as other consequential policy issues..............

................

“It’s no mystery about what’s happening here,” Biden said. “President Trump is trying to throw out the Affordable Care Act. He’s been trying to do it for the last four years. The Republican Party has been trying to eliminate it for a decade.”.............

...............
The former VP then pointed to Barrett’s “written track record of disagreeing adamantly” with the Supreme Court’s rulings that have upheld the Affordable Care Act.....................

Voters Believe Winner of Election Should Fill Court Vacancy, Poll Shows

WASHINGTON — A clear majority of voters believes the winner of the presidential election should fill the Supreme Court seat left open by the death of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, according to a national poll conducted by The New York Times and Siena College, a sign of the political peril President Trump and Senate Republicans are courting by attempting to rush through an appointment before the end of the campaign.

In a survey of likely voters taken in the week leading up to Mr. Trump’s nomination on Saturday of Judge Amy Coney Barrett to the high court, 56 percent said they preferred to have the election act as a sort of referendum on the vacancy. Only 41 percent said they wanted Mr. Trump to choose a justice before November.

More striking, the voters Mr. Trump and endangered Senate Republicans must reclaim to close the gap in the polls are even more opposed to a hasty pick: 62 percent of women, 63 percent of independents and 60 percent of college-educated white voters said they wanted the winner of the campaign to fill the seat.

Texas city declares disaster after brain-eating amoeba found in water supply

Source: axios

7 hours ago - Health

A case of amebic meningoencephalitis due to Naegleria fowleri parasites.

...........................

Details: The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality issued a "do not use" water alert Friday for eight cities, along with the Clemens and Wayne Scott Texas Department of Criminal Justice corrections centers and the Dow Chemical plant in Freeport. This was later lifted for all places except for Lake Jackson, which issued a disaster declaration Saturday.

Driving the news: The 6-year-old died in hospital on Sept. 8. Per a City of Lake Jackson statement, his hospitalization was due to the amoeba, which was linked to two water sources by which he'd been known to have played in late August before becoming ill — the Lake Jackson civic center fountain "splash pad" and a hose at his home.

What they're saying: "The City of Lake Jackson, County of Brazoria, Texas, is facing significant threats to life, health and property due to contaminated drinking water," the city said in an emergency request to Gov. Greg Abbott (R). "The impact of this threat is severe. The potential damages include: sickness and death."
..................................

Residents are being urged not to drink or use the tap water from the impacted system, but flushing the toilet is OK.

Federal Judge Ousts Trump’s Bureau Of Land Management Chief

National Public Lands Day is Saturday.

A federal judge on Friday blocked William Perry Pendley, the anti-public lands extremist who has overseen the federal Bureau of Land Management for more than a year, from continuing to lead the bureau.

U.S. District Judge Brian Morris in Montana ruled that Pendley has illegally served as acting director of BLM for more than 400 days.

The decision comes in response to a lawsuit filed in August by Montana Gov. Steve Bullock (D), which argued that Pendley’s ongoing tenure violates the Federal Vacancies Reform Act. The act limits the amount of time Cabinet officials may serve in an acting role to 210 days.

“Today’s ruling is a win for the Constitution, the rule of law, and our public lands,”
Bullock wrote in a Twitter response. “Montanans can rest easy knowing that National Public Lands Day will begin with William Perry Pendley packing his desk and vacating the Director’s Office.”

A former property rights attorney who spent his career arguing that public lands should not even exist,
Pendley has led the bureau since July 2019 via a series of controversial temporary reappointments. He’s overseen 245 million acres of federal land ― more than 10% of the entire U.S. landmass ― without ever having to face the scrutiny of a Senate confirmation process.

“The President cannot shelter unconstitutional ‘temporary’ appointments for the duration of his presidency through a matryoshka doll of delegated authorities,” Morris wrote in his decision....................................

When an off-duty Pennsylvania police officer was denied a drink at a restaurant last month, he allegedly threw a $5,543.21 temper tantrum by slashing car tires down the street, according to PennLive. Dion Fernandes has since been put on paid leave. Despite video evidence from security cameras, charges didn’t come until weeks later when state police reportedly determined that Fernandes was the suspect in the footage. He has been charged with felony criminal mischief.
