Commercials thanking Republicans for repealing Obamacare aired near several conservative-leaning television markets — hours after the GOP's Obamacare replacement, the American Health Care Act, was abandoned.

..........................

"Republicans are keeping their promise, with a new plan for better health care," one of the advertisements said. "Thank [California] Congressman Darrell Issa for keeping his promise and replacing the Affordable Care Act with the better healthcare you deserve."

As of Friday evening, American Action Network had uploaded the ads for 11 lawmakers on its YouTube account. Similar ads ran for Rep. David Valadao of Fresno, California, and Rep. David Young of Des Moines, Iowa.

You can watch one of the ads below:

This article has been updated.

There is a chat app specific to Capitol Hill called Cloakroom. It’s sort of like an anonymous message board built specifically for Capitol Hill.

According to Ted Henderson, who created the app, the top post on Thursday was “We are all interns today.” Why? As user “budget284? explained, “Because of how much these godforsaken phones rang today.”

And why were the phones ringing? As constituents called members of Congress to express their feelings about the Republican bill to overhaul Obamacare, the American Health Care Act. According to members of Congress who shared numbers, those calls were mostly in opposition.............................

WASHINGTON ...................

McConnell had plenty to lose by twisting arms and making deals to get the bill passed. The Senate has its own bruising battles ahead in the next few weeks, including a Supreme Court nomination and bills to fund keep the government open and increase the nation's debt limit. He didn't need a fight on health care.

"He's having a nice bourbon tonight," said Burdett Loomis, a political science professor at the University of Kansas and an expert on Congress.

After the failure of the health care bill, Loomis said President Donald Trump may turn to McConnell, a seasoned legislator who's been in the Senate for more than three decades, for help with other priorities.

Republicans would like to overhaul the nation's tax system. President Ronald Reagan accomplished this in 1986, Loomis said, and McConnell was there.

Trumps civil rights division will be headed by staffer who railed against civil rights for trans p

Source: raw story

......................Based on his prior writings, Severino will likely take the agency in a different direction than it had under the Obama administration. Last year, the agency issued rules banning discrimination against transgender patients, carrying out provisions of the Affordable Care Act. (A federal judge put those rules on hold on Dec. 31, siding with a Catholic hospital system, other religious health providers and five states that challenged them. The Trump administration has not sought to overturn the injunction.)

When those rules were proposed, Severino and a Heritage colleague wrote a scathing critique, saying they jeopardized the religious liberty and freedom of conscience of health care providers.

“By prohibiting differential treatment on the basis of ‘gender identity’ in health services, these regulations propose to penalize medical professionals and health care organizations that, as a matter of faith, moral conviction, or professional medical judgment, believe that maleness and femaleness are biological realities to be respected and affirmed, not altered or treated as diseases,” Severino wrote with colleague Ryan Anderson.

In a column for the conservative website Daily Signal, Severino and Anderson wrote that the HHS rule would force doctors to perform sex reassignment surgeries. “They would effectively require controversial procedures, such as ‘sex-reassignment’ surgery, that respected medical professionals argue have not been proven effective in treating serious mental health conditions.” ...........................

All-male White House health bill photo sparks anger

There is a familiarity about this photo, and it could have been taken in many boardrooms around the world - men gathered around a table making plans and cutting deals.

But the lack of women here, among a group of conservative Republicans discussing their healthcare bill with the vice-president, struck a particular nerve.

That's because one of the points under discussion was whether the new bill should mandate that health insurance plans provide "essential benefits" including maternity services.

.......................

So the reaction was swift when Vice-President Mike Pence tweeted the photo, with the words: "Appreciated joining @POTUS for meeting with the Freedom Caucus again today This is it. #PassTheBill"........................

Bad optics Trumpy--but we know your attitude on women!

Democratic Senator Patty Murray was one of the first to respond, making an ironic observation.

Nunes Backs Down From Assertion Trump Was Monitored

by Ken Dilanian and Ali Vitali

The chairman of the House intelligence committee has backed down from his dramatic assertion that Donald Trump and his aides were "monitored," by U.S. spies a claim the Republicans have cited this week in emails to loyalists.

Rep. Devin Nunes told reporters Friday he can't be sure whether conversations among Trump or his aides were captured in the surveillance that has become a source of controversy since Nunes made it public in two news conferences this week.

.....................

Nunes continued to refuse to say how he had learned about the surveillance, including whether his source was in the White House.

Planned Parenthood’s President: "It’s Time For Ivanka To Stand For Women"

The health care bill up for a vote in the House of Representatives Friday would defund the non-profit.
Originally posted on Mar. 24, 2017, at 8:50 a.m. Updated on Mar. 24, 2017, at 10:36 a.m.

Planned Parenthood President Cecile Richards urged Ivanka Trump on Friday to step into the debate over the Republican health care bill.

The president’s daughter’s silence on the way the legislation would affect women has been “deafening,” she said, and that “it’s time for Ivanka to … stand for women.”

Ivanka is currently on a ski vacation with her family in Aspen. The bill, which would remove federal requirements to provide services like maternity care, and would block federal funding for Planned Parenthood, is scheduled to go for a vote later Friday.

......................

“Any woman who votes for this bill is betraying every woman in America,” she said. “Women will not just lose their healthcare, but lose their lives over this bill.”.............................

Richards knows Ivanka will be silent today. Makes Ivanka look foolish.
