Ku Klux Klan Members Drive Through North Carolina Town To Hail Trump Victory

Source: Huff post

Mary Papenfuss Trends reporter, The Huffington Post

Police in Roxboro, North Carolina, will hold a press conference Monday to address community concerns after a band of KKK members drove through the small town Saturday celebrating President-elect Donald Trumps victory in the recent election.

The parade was originally going to take place in Pelham, 40 minutes away from Roxboro. But organizers moved the event after protesters gathered in Pelham Saturday morning to confront the Klansmen, according to the Charlotte News Observer.

Two men were also arrested on Friday night after a stabbing at a KKK meeting in Caswell County, where Pelham is located.

Local police and state troopers blocked several intersections in a bid to keep the peace as the parade of vehicles waving American, Confederate and KKK flags zipped through the town of some 8,000 people. Men and women shouted White power! and Hail victory! Only a handful of bystanders watched. The parade was over in minutes, officials said. ......................

Viewpoints: Donald Trump’s anti-immigrant rants and threat to renegotiate NAFTA would hurt Arizona's (lucrative) relationship with Mexico.

......................

Trump’s promises to “build a wall,” his negative characterization of Mexican immigrants, his threat to renegotiate NAFTA, and his general dismissive tone and demeanor toward our neighbor to the south significantly cloud the future of the relationship.

But the deep economic and cultural ties between our countries, and the opportunities that these ties can bring, tell a very different story. According to the Office of the United States Trade Representative, $583.6 billion in (two way) trade of goods and services occurred during 2015 between our two nations. Mexico is the third-largest trading partner for the U.S., and the U.S. the largest trading partner for Mexico.

6 million American jobs are at risk

These economic ties create jobs for American workers. According to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, six million U.S. jobs depend on U.S. trade with Mexico, a flow that has been greatly facilitated by NAFTA, which has helped eliminate costly tariff and non-tariff barriers
..................

..........While our language may be different, we are neighbors, and our geographic proximity, the similar manner in which we live, our shared heritage and traditions, and our deep and mutually beneficial trading relationship are all part of the economic and cultural ties that we must promote and strengthen, not undermine.

It reads "Peace on Earth" in gold writing on the large front windows of the Middle Eastern Bakery and Deli in Phoenix. But the owners of the beloved local restaurant have been experiencing quite the opposite recently, some customers say.

Marnee Burrus, a regular at the small grocery and restaurant, which serves lamb kebabs, baba ghanoui and baked treats such as baklava, stopped by Saturday afternoon only to see that a window had been smashed, leaving cracks resembling a large spiderweb on the decorated front, according to a Facebook post.

In her post, Burrus wrote: "I asked the store owner what happened and she told me this is the second time this has happened to them since the election and they can't afford the expense of replacing the glass a second time right now.".............................

David Gergen On Trump's Victory Lap: 'I Knew I Didn't Like The Son Of A Bitch'

Gergen didn't mince words last night on CNN, as Trump's victory lap last night in Cincinnati met with scorn and derision from the CNN contributor.

Last night in Cincinnati, Ohio, Donald Trump took what can best be described as a victory lap. While his speech began with talk of “unity” and compassion, it quickly devolved into attacks on the media, immigrants, and anyone who didn’t vote for him.

When the speech was over with, a panel on CNN discussed what they had just seen, David Gergen, who served as an advisor to Gerald Ford, Ronald Reagan and Bill Clinton, said he had been disheartened by what Trump’s remarks, commenting:

“I think if there was any doubt that we’re putting an end to one chapter in American history and moving to a new one, he dispelled that tonight. This is goodbye to American leadership in the world. Goodbye to globalization. He’s bringing America home. He’s going to lead a nativist, nationalistic, populist movement and if you want to join up with him fine. If you don’t, forget it.”

Gergen added that it’s now clear the President-elect will push his agenda, “and he’s going to do it in his pugilistic, narcissistic way.” He then added:

More stats to boggle the mind.

As noted by @nycsouthpaw, voters worried about the economy -- most of them -- preferred Clinton.

The Fix
In nearly every swing state, voters preferred Hillary Clinton on the economy

By Philip Bump December 2

Anonymous Twitter dog @nycsouthpaw made an interesting observation on Friday.

The driving narrative for the results of the November election has run contrary to that. According to a broad swath of popular understanding, Donald Trump will be the next president because he narrowly won three critical states -- Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin -- powered by working class voters frustrated with economic intransigence.

But that's not what exit polling shows in those states, to Southpaw's point. Exit polls show Hillary Clinton winning a majority of the vote from people who told pollsters that the economy was the most important issue facing the country. What's more, in each state, a majority of voters said that was the case.

https://img.washingtonpost.com/wp-apps/imrs.php?src=&w=480

The circles with bright red slices are those in which voters who thought the economy was the most important issue either preferred Trump or preferred both candidates equally. Those are all states that went for Trump. In every other state, voters most worried about the economy preferred Clinton, even though she lost eight of those states.

In nearly every state, Clinton did better (and Trump worse) with voters worried about the economy than with the overall pool of voters. (Notice how the blue slices in the smaller circles extend further than the blue slices in the larger ones.)...................

How can that be? How can she win a majority of the majority and still lose? Because she lost with other groups worse.

Milwaukee County auditors have started a wide-ranging investigation into medical care at the county's two jails, where four people have died in recent months and a court-appointed monitor found numerous problems related to inmate treatment.

Jerry Heer, director of audits for the Milwaukee County Office of the Comptroller, confirmed this week that auditors plan to investigate whether Armor Correctional Health Services is meeting contract requirements and standards of medical care. Armor, a Miami-based for-profit company, has contracted with the county since 2013 to provide medical care at the Milwaukee County Jail and the House of Correction.

Theodore Lipscomb Sr., chairman of the Milwaukee County Board of Supervisors, requested the audit in early November, days after a Milwaukee Journal Sentinel article detailed Armor's staffing and performance issues amid the rash of deaths at the Milwaukee County Jail. Comptroller Scott Manske agreed one day later to start the audit, Heer said........................

The Milwaukee County Jail is run by Sheriff David A. Clarke Jr. and houses about 950 inmates per day. The House of Correction is managed by county officials and holds about 1,250 inmates.

All four deaths at Clarke's jail remain under investigation and as a result, detectives and the medical examiner's office have released few details about them. But some information has emerged through public records in three of the cases.....................

Taiwan Call Debacle Proves Hillary Clinton Was Right: Trump Has No Idea What He’s Doing

Hillary Clinton warned America that Trump would cause global crisis and conflicts, and the president-elect’s bungled call to Taiwan proves that she was right.
https://twitter.com/brianefallon/status/804896124985348097

In the video, Clinton warned, “Rather than solving global crises, he would create new ones. He has no sense of what it takes to deal with multiple countries with competing interests and reaching a solution that everyone can get behind. In fact, he is downright contemptuous of that work and that means he’s much more likely to end up leading us into conflict.”

Trump did lead the country into a new global crisis and conflict with his call to Taiwan president Tsai Ing-wen. It is being reported that the Trump team set up the call in with the Taiwan government. This isn’t some brilliant strategy. The call was another sign that the there is going to be a man in the White House who doesn’t have a clue..........................
