Graham dismisses two men who claim Ford may have mistaken Kavanaugh for them

Source: The Hill

BY BRETT SAMUELS - 09/27/18 11:28 AM EDT

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) on Thursday dismissed the credibility of two men who have claimed to the Senate Judiciary Committee that Christine Blasey Ford may have mistook Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh for them during an alleged sexual assault in the 1980s.

"One’s crazy as a loon. I don’t believe the other one. I’m not going to play this game," Graham said on "CBS This Morning."

“You don’t believe either of these men who said they attacked Dr. Ford?” anchor Norah O'Donnell asked.

"Yes, I don’t believe that," Graham responded.

The Real Culprit for Trump and Kavanaugh: Asshole Culture

They’re rich and smug and obnoxious, and they think morality is for poor people. And they’ve done more to wreck this country than any other group. Enough.

David Rothkopf
09.27.18 5:18 AM ET

Asshole Culture has carved out a very clear, unsavory role in American film, literature and life. Entitled, wealthy bros who take what they want, treat everyone around them like shit and then rise to positions of power is a common trope in our mass culture. And, if you have been following the news recently, you know that it exists at the highest levels of the U.S. government.

In films and books, these jerks usually get their comeuppance. From the downfall of the indulgent rich of Fitzgerald to Philip Roth’s tweaking of the entitled, from the sleazy elites of Bonfire of the Vanities to the snotty villains of every private school movie ever made to greed-driven bros of The Wolf of Wall Street, wealth and privilege set them up and karma ultimately knocks them down.

In real life, not so much. They usually just keep working their way up the greasy pole, covering for and enabling one another and rising generations of assholes to come, their paths assured by aging assholes who came before them and now sit atop big institutions.

Brett Kavanaugh, the GOP leaders in the Senate, and above all Donald Trump embody this subset of the ugliest Americans to such a degree that you can hardly believe they are real. They are cartoonishly smug and convinced that morality is for poor people, notwithstanding the slogans and mottoes found embroidered in Latin on their school blazers, or some of the platitudes they speak when they are either running for office, accepting awards, or presenting themselves to Senate committees confirming them.

Despite their sense they are the heirs to America, raised to take the reins of power, it is of course their moral and ethical emptiness and their greed and ambition that has corroded what’s best about the country and led to institutionalized inequality and corruption that threaten democracy in America today.

Trump, of course, is the ur-Asshole, though he is not, despite what he may think, the Alpha Asshole. Those are the ones behind the scenes, Wall Streeters and heirs to old money fortunes, who not-so-secretly despise him as a wannabe who will never be truly in their world. But they, like he, are all spoiled, shallow, self-absorbed, and contemptuous of those with less.

Hillary Clinton to Hit the Campaign Trail for Florida Governor Candidate Andrew Gillum

Source: The Daily Beast

The planned event will take place in late October, marking Clinton’s return to stumping for Democratic candidates.

Hillary Clinton will return to the campaign trail, stumping this fall for one of the 2018 midterm’s most crucial races.

Florida Democratic gubernatorial candidate Andrew Gillum will campaign alongside the 2016 presidential nominee on October 23, in the waning weeks of the race.

“I’m honored to have Secretary Clinton join me in Florida next month,” Tallahassee Mayor Gillum said in a statement. “Hillary knows just what's at stake in this election—affordable healthcare, a brighter future for our children—and that the choice in this election could not be clearer.”

Clinton, of course, narrowly lost Florida in the presidential election, helping President Trump secure his shocking win alongside his success in the Midwest.

Sarah Huckabee Sanders: Blame Democrats for Lack of Kavanaugh Investigation

Source: The Daily Beast

Press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders says Senate Democrats are to blame for the lack of a comprehensive investigation into the sexual-misconduct allegations against Brett Kavanaugh. The Supreme Court nominee and one of his three accusers, Christine Blasey Ford, will testify in front of a Senate panel today, but President Trump will not order an FBI investigation into the allegations before the vote on him scheduled for Friday morning. Asked why the president won’t postpone the vote and investigate the claims, Sanders told NBC’s Today: “Democrats have known about this. If they wanted to go through a two-month process, why didn’t they bring this up in the middle of Kavanaugh’s hearing? Why didn’t they bring this to light? They knew about it, it’s because they want to play political games. I think if people have any frustration with the pace and the speed then I think they have no place to look other than at the Democrats, who have turned this whole thing into a complete circus.”

No Rosenstein Meeting On Trump's Thursday Schedule

Source: Talking Points Memo

By Allegra Kirkland

September 27, 2018 9:58 am

President Trump’s Thursday schedule made no mention of a highly anticipated meeting expected to determine the fate of deputy attorney general Rod Rosenstein.

Trump had hinted at a Wednesday evening press conference that he might postpone the sit-down to avoid “competing” with the hearing for Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, who is accused of sexual assault.

Trump also told reporters that he may allow Rosenstein to stay put, telling reporters that his “preference would be to keep him.”

This about-face comes after a frenetic Monday in which rumors flew that Rosenstein was either resigning or being fired following reports that he’d discussed trying to oust Trump from office in 2017.

Lindsey Graham LOLs as Fox & Friends host details Kavanaugh accuser's gang rape allegations

Lindsey Graham laughs out loud as Fox & Friends host details Kavanaugh accuser’s gang rape allegations

DAVID EDWARDS
27 SEP 2018 AT 09:33 ET

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) on Thursday laughed at the details of an alleged gang rape that has been linked to Supremme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh.

Less than two hours before Dr. Christine Blasey Ford was set to testify about her allegations against Kavanaugh, Graham attacked another women, Julie Swetnick, who says that the nominee was present when a “train” of men raped her.

“[Swetnick] wants me to believe that when Brett Kavanaugh, when he was a sophomore or junior, maybe early in his senior year in high school, orchestrated mass rapes, drugged women,” Graham told Fox & Friends. “And she went to not one party where this happened, but 10 parties, never told anybody about it.”

“Why would you go back to the second party if the first experience was that women were being drugged and raped?” he insisted. “And here’s the thing that seals it for me. Kavanaugh says, ‘I don’t even know who she is, I’ve never met her.’ So, I believe him!”

Fox News host Ainsley Earhardt agreed.

“She was college age going back to high school parties,” Earhardt said, causing Graham to laugh out loud. “If there were 10 of them, why didn’t — why aren’t any of them coming forward, why didn’t she go to police?”

“Why would you go back to 10 parties?” Graham exclaimed, once again laughing. “It’s crazy.”
