Kasie Hunt got schooled again this morning on Twitter

by Charlie Pierce, Neera Tanden and Journalists Parker Malloy (Media Matters for America, Upworthy) Mark Harris (Vulture)

Here's the tweet : https://twitter.com/kasie/status/1059094623753302016

I interviewed @DanCrenshawTX for a piece on vets running. I enjoyed our conversation — and as an American I am incredibly grateful for his service and his sacrifice. Our country is better off with more people like him in Congress, party aside.

Kind of odd for a reporter to endorse someone 2 days before the election...

@kasie
Replying to @ParkerMolloy
I’m not endorsing any candidate. I AM saying thanks for serving and saying I think more veterans in Congress is good for our country. If you disagree, we can agree to disagree.

@ParkerMalloy I mean, his opponent in this race isn’t a veteran, so...

@kasie
Replying to @ParkerMolloy
I understand that. I’m not urging voters to pick him over his opponent. I am saying he should not be mocked for his service and that I personally appreciate that he sacrificed for all of us.

@CharlesPPierce
Replying to @kasie @ParkerMolloy
Then, all due respect, that's what you should have said, instead of telling us that Congress will be "better off" with another anti-choice Tea Party stalwart.

@kasie
Replying to @CharlesPPierce @ParkerMolloy
I should have referenced the context in the original tweet for those who may not have seen the clip in question. Apologies.

@neeratanden
Replying to @kasie @CharlesPPierce @ParkerMolloy
The answer to this situation is not for reporters to endorse congressional candidates. Really surprising.

@kasie
Replying to @neeratanden @CharlesPPierce @ParkerMolloy
Hi Neera, I respect your work and I’m hoping you saw the fuller context in this whole thread. When I said “like him” I was directly referring to his record of service, as I noted “party aside”. I’d say the same for a Dem in a similar spot.

@MarkHarrisNYC
Replying to @kasie
Oh. Okay. Well, "party aside," I prefer a candidate who doesn't support homophobia under the guise of religious liberty, supports reproductive choice, and isn't yet another spokesman for the NRA. But yay vets no matter what they think or stand for?

@MarkHarrisNYC
Replying to @MarkHarrisNYC @kasie
What you're really selling here is the idea that voters ought to be paying less attention to issues and more to biography and personal narrative, an approach that has done a great deal to dumb down politics over the years. I don't know what you're thinking with this

@MarkHarrisNYC
Replying to @kasie
Valuing service from our veterans is very different from saying we need more people like a specific GOP veteran in Congress. How many times have we heard "We need more people like..." at a candidate's rally? You have to know that reads as an endorsement.

It's not the first time she's been called out. I posted this from last month when she got jumped on by Norm Ornstein for her both sides is the sameism. https://www.democraticunderground.com/100211251065

Special Counsel Refers Scheme Targeting Mueller to FBI

An alleged scheme to pay off women to fabricate sexual assault allegations against Special Counsel Robert Mueller has been referred to the FBI for further investigation, according to a spokesman for the special counsel’s office, Peter Carr. “When we learned last week of allegations that women were offered money to make false claims about the Special Counsel, we immediately referred the matter to the FBI for investigation,” Carr said in a statement on Tuesday.

The special counsel’s attention to this scheme—which was brought to the office by a woman claiming she herself had been offered money to make up sexual harassment claims against Mueller—and its decision to release a rare statement about it to reporters indicates the seriousness with which the office is taking the purported scheme to discredit Mueller in the middle of an ongoing investigation.

The special counsel’s office confirmed that the scheme was brought to its attention by several journalists who were told about it by a woman alleging that she herself had been offered roughly $20,000 by a GOP activist named Jack Burkman “to make accusations of sexual misconduct and workplace harassment against Robert Mueller.” The woman told journalists that she had worked for Mueller as a paralegal at the Pillsbury, Madison, and Sutro law firm in 1974. The firm has not returned a request for comment about whether the woman actually worked there.

He “offered to pay off all of my credit card debt, plus bring me a check for $20,000 if I would do one thing,” the woman wrote to the journalists in an email, a copy of which I obtained. “In more of an effort to get him to go away than anything else, I asked him what in the hell he wanted me to do. He said that we could not talk about it on the phone, and he asked me to download an app on my phone called Signal, which he said was more secure. Reluctantly, I downloaded the app and he called me on that app a few minutes later. He said (and I will never forget exactly what it was) ‘I want you to make accusations of sexual misconduct and workplace harassment against Robert Mueller, and I want you to sign a sworn affidavit to that effect.’”

It's.

A.

Trap.

My operative theory is that this is soon-to-be indicted geriatric ratfucker Roger Stone and his alt-right bitch boys, wannabes, and clingers trying to shank Robert Mueller.

Expect it to drop on Thursday night.

Something's getting ready to come out about Mueller

Something ginned up by the right to discredit him.

@ScottMStedman
I wasn't going to report on this, but I think my fears are coming true. Based on information that I am privy to, I believe false accusations will be spread about Mueller in order to discredit him and possibly the journalists who are preparing this story.

Jair Bolsonaro, Far-Right Populist, Elected President of Brazil

RIO DE JANEIRO — Brazil on Sunday became the latest country to drift toward the far right, electing a strident populist as president in the nation’s most radical political change since democracy was restored more than 30 years ago.

The new president, Jair Bolsonaro, has exalted the country’s military dictatorship, advocated torture and threatened to destroy, jail or drive into exile his political opponents.

He won by tapping into a deep well of resentment at the status quo in Brazil — a country whiplashed by rising crime and two years of political and economic turmoil — and by presenting himself as the alternative.

“This is a really radical shift,” said Scott Mainwaring, a professor at Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government who specializes in Brazil. “I can’t think of a more extremist leader in the history of democratic elections in Latin America who has been elected.”

There is no electorally viable conservatism without racism.

https://twitter.com/drvox/status/1056627120128946176

The smack-you-in-your-face truth is, Republican party *can't hold onto power without white nationalism.*

Take away hatred, xenophobia, racism & violent rhetoric against brown/LGBTQ people - what's left?

Grover's tax cuts and Pete Peterson's deficit obsession. But no voters.

This is true & I haven't seen it discussed enough. If the GOP ditched white nationalism & focused on the allegedly more noble Kaisch-style "fiscal conservatism" ... it would lose every election, forever. There is no electorally viable conservatism without racism.

01/03/2017 Trump suggests Jews might secretly be committing anti-Semitic hate crimes on themselves

Andrew Griffin @_andrew_griffin

Donald Trump has suggested that Jewish people might be committing anti-Semitic hate crimes to make himself look bad.After days in which he refused to comment on a spate of anti-Semitic attacks, Mr Trump broke his silence to repeat an neo-Nazi conspiracy theory that has claimed that the attacks are "false flags". Supporters of that belief – who include leader of the Ku Klux Klan, David Duke – believe that such attacks are being perpetrated by Jewish people in order to undermine the White House.

Pennsylvania's Attorney General, Josh Shapiro, said that he had spoken to the President about a wave of threats to Jewish community centres. And Mr Trump said that they had been designed to make "others look bad".Mr Shapiro was part of a group of state attorneys general who met with Trump at the White House Tuesday.

He said he asked Trump at the meeting about how states and the federal government could better collaborate against the threats.

He says Mr Trump responded by calling the threats "reprehensible, but then added that, "sometimes it's the reverse, to make people or to make others look bad." Mr Shapiro said that he had repeated the word "reverse" a number of times, stressing that the attacks might be perpetuated by Jewish people.
