LeftInTX's JournalGov. Greg Abbott says he'll sign bill allowing permitless carrying of handguns, believes Senate is "
Gov. Greg Abbott said Tuesday he would sign legislation allowing Texans to carry handguns in public without a license, breaking his silence on a proposal that has been building unprecedented momentum in the Texas Legislature.
"I support it, and I believe it should reach my desk, and we should have 'constitutional carry' in Texas," Abbott told North Texas radio host Rick Roberts.
As recently as a week ago, Abbott had declined to say whether he supported such a proposal, which the House passed earlier this month. Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick has said the Senate does not have the votes for the legislation, but he is trying to find a way to move it through the process.
Last week, Patrick created a new committee with a majority of permitless carry supporters. The House legislation, House Bill 1927, was then referred to the panel, and HB 1927 is set for a hearing Thursday.

Texas Gov. Abbott blames Biden as allegations emerge of sexual assault at child migrant facility
Can't stand the source, but it is the truth: Abbott is blaming Biden for everything wrong at a detention facility. He never blamed Trump. I hate Abbott. Sex abuse is probably happening between minors/migrants and not with staff. This facility has been open less than a week. He wants to enlist the Texas rangers and if that doesn't work, he's going to take matters into his own hands.
During a Wednesday evening press conference, Abbott said he received tips that alleged the children at the Freeman Coliseum facility were being sexually abused and were not eating enough.
"These problems are a byproduct of President Bidens open border policies and the lack of planning for the fallout for those disastrous policies," Abbott told reporters.
The governor said that separate complaints were sent to the Department of Health and Human Services and the Texas Department of Family and Protective services Wednesday, alleging four different kinds of child abuse.

A real redneck story...
My daughter's husband is from Jacksonsville, FL. When he was growing up there was a large tortoise in their neighborhood that he was playing with. Their neighbor told him, "It's endangered, we'll take him and and take care of it". So the neighbors too the tortoise. The next day, they saw the huge shell out in the garbage. It turns out the neighbors took the tortoise to make turtle soup.
And yes, this tortoise is endangered. But commonly seen in FL.
This happened about 30 years ago.
Texas Senate advances bill limiting how and when voters can cast ballots, receive mail-in voting app
In an overnight vote after more than seven hours of debate, the Texas Senate signed off on Senate Bill 7, which would limit extended early voting hours, prohibit drive-thru voting and make it illegal for local election officials to proactively send applications to vote by mail to voters, even if they qualify.
The legislation is at the forefront of Texas Republicans crusade to further restrict voting in the state following last years election. Though Republicans remain in full control of state government, Texas saw the highest turnout in decades in 2020, with Democrats continuing to drive up their vote counts in the states urban centers and diversifying suburban communities.
Like other proposals under consideration at the Texas Capitol, many of the restrictions in SB 7 would target initiatives championed in those areas to make it easier for more voters to participate in elections.
