If Tina Turner walked out on Ike, Mika can walk out on Joe.

I just watched a short part of the nauseating Joe and Mika show on MSNBC. There are plenty of good women in broadcast journalism that could save her from her co-host Joe who is the broadcast version of Ike Turner. She needs to be empowered to walk out. I can only imagine how her career will soar after that. What do you think?

Is it time for a commutation of Avenatti's sentence?

My read still on all of this is if there were no Avenatti, there would be no Cohen, and thus no Trump indictment. The very first man to stand up to Trump was Michael Avenatti. He lodged a lawsuit that exposed Michael Cohen and the Stormy Daniels payments. Cohen, at that time, was running the biggest pay for play during the beginning months of the Trump administration. Korea Aerospace Industries, a defense contractor bidding on part of a U.S. Air Force project worth up to $16.3 billion, paid $150,000 to Cohen’s shell company, Essential Consultants, LLC, in November 2017. AT&T, which is currently awaiting government approval on a $185 billion merger with Time Warner, reportedly paid Cohen’s company $600,000. As of now, the largest contributor appears to be Swiss pharmaceuticals manufacturer, Novartis, which signed a one-year $1.2 million contract with Essential Consultants in February 2017.

The Media Research Center has determined that Avenatti made a whopping 254 television appearances over the course of a year. This, after he entered the news cycle in early 2018 as the outspoken lawyer for adult film star Stormy Daniels, who locked horns with President Trump and his former attorney Michael Cohen over an affair she claims to have had years ago with Trump.

He was the darling of the late night shows and they hit paydirt on viewership every time he appeared. We can say what we want about his own crimes or misdeeds but the bottom line is that he was the FIRST to stand up to TRUMP. And it was his investigation that got Cohen indicted and caused Cohen to subsequently flip on Trump.

Once a pardon is granted, the person is again considered a law-abiding citizen with all rights restored. A commutation is an act of leniency by an authority that reduces the severity of punishment. It does not pardon the crime, and it does not exonerate the person convicted. A commutation reduces the sentence.

Do you think Michael Avenatti should have his sentence commuted?

This is a May 2018 Rolling Stone article on events. It was at a time when it was doubtful that anyone could stand up to Trump.

Harry Belafonte and Bob Dylan

The 1962 recording of "Midnight Special" by the Jamaican-American singer Harry Belafonte is notable for containing the very first official recording of Bob Dylan, who played harmonica. Belafonte told Mojo magazine July 2010 how it came about. He recalled: "It was supposed to be Sonny Terry, but he got grounded by a thunderstorm in Memphis and couldn't make the date. My guitarist Millard Thomas said, 'Well, there's this kid I see all the time down the village and he does that whole Sonny thing… he sleeps and dreams it.' So I said, 'We don't have a choice, I guess. Go find him.'
And this skinny kid appeared, and he had a paper sack with him full of harmonicas in different keys. I played the song for him and he pulled one out of the bag, dipped it in water and played it through a single take, and it was great. I loved it. I asked him if he wanted to try another take and he said, 'No.' He just headed for the door, and threw the harmonica into the trash can on his way out.
I remember thinking, Does he have that much disdain for what I'm doing? But I found out later that he bought his harps at the Woolworth drugstore. They were cheap ones, and once he'd gotten them wet and really played through them as hard as he did, they were finished. It wasn't until decades later, when he wrote his book (Chronicles), that I read what he really felt about me, and I tell you, I got very, very choked up. I had admired him all along, and no matter what he did or said, I was just a stone, stone fan."

SCOTUS today? Presidential elections are about SCOTUS---nothing else

You must understand Opus Dei, a fascist organization.

https://dailymeditationswithmatthewfox.org/2022/06/29/supreme-court-judges-sharing-an-opus-dei-seal-of-approval/

Because the person who forwarded five names to the senate for approval as supreme court judges is Leonardo Leo, who is an out of the closet Opus Dei operative. It was he who pushed Mitch McConnell to nominate Roberts, Alito, Gorsuch, Kavanaugh and Barrett for SCOTUS. He is also “closest friends” with Clarence Thomas and has been called “one of the most powerful figures in the United States.”*

About New Haven

A child of the 60's, a lifelong Democrat and a sense that our elected officials , especially the President, set the tone of civility in our great country. I worked on JFK's campaign and on Barack Obama's (twice). High School Class of 1963 I was moved by MLK's March on Washington, and to see that go full circle and have Barack Obama for President is quite gratifying. When I see remnants of the John Birch society still quite active in the Tea Party/MAGA it strengthens my beliefs and support of the Democratic Party.
