When it comes to people, you don't know squat.

I'm glad you never had me trapped between your paddles because that brings out the Nurse Ratchet in some people. Whether you're right (or wrong! why should I take YOUR compassionate word?) about the technology, a patient's emotional state has a lot to do with the amount of perceived pain, and that's a psychological fact! Argue that away if you want to try. But at the very least you've done other women no favor at all. How did you treat your own patients? Tell them to shut up and be a good marine? Sheeesh!

And it's so fine of you

... to do whatever you can to reassure us - all in the name of blunt science, of course. That's sure to get more of us into the office.

Bottom line, you might be right. But then again, you might not be. In more ways than one.

Just be sure

that your technician knows to cover any moles you might have. Those have been known to cause false positives, requiring a do-over. I should've mentioned that in the OP.

Meanwhile, good for you. I used to laugh at the stories of cops and marines fainting at the sight of a needle, but I no longer have that luxury. At a much younger age admittedly, I used to train in full contact tae kwon do but still needed a cattle prod to get me to the doctor. Or dentist. Face it, I had noooo room to talk.

Digital Mammography IS much less painful

As well as more accurate than the original kind, as most of us know. But after my last regular exam 5 years ago, our local hospital recently acquired a digital machine. I went for my first digital mammogram this morning and didn't even think swear words like I used to do.

Just wanted women to know that, in case I'm not the only lily-livered chicken out there. It's still highly uncomfortable but you won't start crying for your mommy either.

I am sorry you lost your father

You loved him very much, as I did mine.

That's why

.... we're well advised to take, shall we say, a well rounded approach and not fall into the trap of bibliolatry by declaring the Bible to be completely literal and inerrant in every respect. It is after all a record filtered through the hearts, minds, and hands of its intended recipients.

That said, I like to read the Psalms in KJV occasionally, but by and large prefer more modern (not to mention scholarly) editions. And don't let me get started on the Song of Solomon, or I won't be able to get Liam Neeson out of my mind at all!

Thanks for the link

As a retired person I do a lot of home gardening, all organic; the very first issue of Mother Earth News got me started on that, and I've been learning more all my life since. I look forward to benefiting from urbanhomestead.org as well.

Thank you, Brigid

It's getting to where I don't want to miss any of your posts.

You'll always get nitpicked if not downright slammed by some people anytime you quote the Bible, but you are spot on.

Be still, my heart.

Wonderful news. That grin on my face grows by the minute. (soon I'll look like a cheshire cat!)

Please tell webmaster that when I click 'mark as read' on the 'my posts' tab,

Next time I come back they're all lit up again and I have to search through them for any possible new replies. This has been going on steadily for several weeks. Posts before that are not affected and remain as 'read'. Thanks.

Love the website, btw. I've taken a few undeserved lashes from people who like to act out and then when someone suggests a little behavior modification, they swarm like mad hornets with heated accusations of the very behavior they themselves were committing in the first place. But not to worry - I'm learning which individuals are prone to that and happily add them to my informal ignore list. I might on rare occasion read something they post but know there's no point in engaging them at all.

And of course most folks are very nice even when offering a factual correction the rare times I'm mistaken about something! That kind of person I appreciate.

About IrishAyes

Still an ardent Irish-American Catholic damnYankee Yellow Dog Democrat socialist after all these years. (cue Simon music) Army brat and wife for many years, now have been on the loose far longer than I was married. After my two red chows died, I took in a mini-beagle cross that I named Molly Maguire, thinking she might need a good Irish name like my original real one. Later she got a baby sister, a smooth-coat JRT I named Brigid after the greatest of the ancient Celtic goddesses. My great-grandfather and his son fought for Michael Collins and barely made it out of Ireland one step ahead of John Bull. They slipped over to Wales for new identities and then forward to the States for a fresh start. That makes me second generation of illegal but certainly justified immigrants. There are precious few people to whose defense I fly immediately, but the list includes Hillary Clinton, President Barack Obama even when I disagree with him - it happens! - and living Irish patriots Gerry Adams and Martin \\\'Mind Your Kneecaps\\\' McGuiness. I pray earnestly for a united and free Ireland rescued from all official British occupation, with every square inch of alleged \\\'ancestral lands\\\' now held immorally and illegally by the invaders returned to the rightful owners. Irish-only rule for Ireland. No foreign masters anymore! I find it passing strange when Brits chide ME about \'interfering\' in Irish politics!
