Could anyone else in the world be aware that he's smarter than most people and yet be so good about it? That's one of my favorite things about President Obama - supremely confident but not smug, regardless of what the Repukes say. I'm just glad he's on our side!

It's hard for me to listen to the news channels too; I find it easier to manage online where at least there's no sound and I can avoid the RWNJ crap.

When I signed the petition online, though, which a DUer provided, I listed my address as Maine. Well, I used to live there and my heart's still there, so! Gave a good Maine zip code but fudged the rest. No reason to let the nasty corporates think they could discount my statement. And man, did I ever unload! Said they'd better hire back everyone they fired if they wanted any more business at all. I felt like I was speaking for many who are presently present.

I'll check my personal email to see if one of the many newsletters I take has a group petition going about this. Daily Kos is very good about that sort of thing. It's true - I'm a Kossack! 
I'd also like to take this opportunity to remind the world that anyone who crosses a picket line for any reason goes straight to everlasting hell. No get out of jail card, free or otherwise.

Most of us would've taken a bullet for him. He understood loyalty's a 2-way street, and he held up his end of the bargain.
They're too far and few between, that kind.
As an early boomer, I think mine was probably the last generation
where average middle class parents could afford to send one or more kids to college so there'd be no debt hanging over anyone at graduation. Of course we took side jobs when we could and did everything possible to help ourselves, but it was strictly pay as you go. You'd have to be really well off to even dream of that today. And that's so sad. My ex and I were able to buy our first home at age 23 all on our own. Back then that was normal. I haven't even paid a mortgage for close to 30 years because we lived on his income and saved my salary the first few years. By the time we divorced I might've been house-poor but I did have a house at least, and I tried to time the market when I wanted to move.
That's not remotely possible anymore.
I love my own name because it's the same as an early feminist & the feminine version of Dad's name;
but I support everyone's freedom to choose. In some worldwide cultures this is the norm. Even as a little girl, I always knew exactly what I'd name a son if I ever had one. Which I did. Fortunately he liked it too. Plain, simple, easy to spell. Utterly classic.
Not having grandkids I've had to exercise my penchant for naming on various dogs over the years. They don't get a choice in the matter, except I do try to watch and 'listen' 8 days first, then hope I guess right. I think they come to us already having names of their own.
One reason so many poor people dip/chew snuff is because it deadens hunger pains
and it's cheaper than food. So now they've got mouth cancer to worry about too.
The whole situation stinks.
I still don't follow a strictly healthy diet, but I gave up sodas years ago; and it's been ages since I ate processed lunch meat too. I avoid GMOs as much as possible by growing as much of my own food as I can.
This is what we live for. Hope that our nation can be saved.
I like being in a friendly crowd too.
State elections here are in August, and the nasty anti-everything-Obama attack ads are flooding the airwaves. Since the JRT Brigid chewed the tv remote, I have to adjust controls manually. She probably figures she's already done her part, so she refuses to help further.
Anyway, the point is that I can't so easily avoid the nasty ads, but I keep the volume low anyway - and I've found ad time's a good opportunity to drown that stuff out with a peppy civil rights song or something of that nature. So far it's working.
Grrr - I might never again enjoy the crowd scene you described, but I'm truly delighted to hear about them from elsewhere. Isn't it such a warm feeling?
Hate to agree with you about that but can't deny it.
They may come in for a bit of a surprise, however. I don't want the people of Detroit to suffer any more than they already have, but I don't think they'll take much more. For every weapon there's a counter-weapon (if there's such a word).
