IrishAyes's JournalGlad to hear it. Not aiming this at you, of course, but....
I look forward to the day when a lot of his most unreasonable detractors have to eat their words. And I earnestly hope they choke on them.
And yes, I too enjoy those press conferences. Maybe it makes me a little nerdy, but I actually enjoy fine speeches as well and have recordings of the best from the past. Maybe it's partly because I heard them fresh at the time.
At last a direct, non-waffling response.
Doesn't change the fact that to the world at large he IS the face of communism. Right or wrong, that's the perception.
Still - when I refer to something being the general perception, it's appalling how many people leap to the conclusion that it's necessarily my view as well. Somebody needs to double down on critical thinking and analysis of reality. Too many people just don't read well anymore.
PS: helpful hint - I just re-read all my comments. Please show me exactly where I said Putin IS a communist. You can't because it isn't there. Yet you SEEM all hot under the collar that I've said that when I really haven't. I don't think you'd last a minute on a top debate team, certainly not in a courtroom.
Yes, I've been toying with you a bit. But you're the one who came asking for it, so don't go whining to Mom that you feel slighted. You wouldn't alert on me, would you? Is that what a real, good communist would do; tattle to the establishment?
I don't think I'll vacation in Saudi Arabia this year.
Of course the religious 'right' have their own set of rules for the rest of us in America, confining in their own way. And nobody had better waste time thinking they won't push us back to the 1700's at least, given the chance. They expect women to be silent and submissive; some want to ban compulsory education; they are, to put it mildly, the American Taliban.
Thank you. I hope your week is special too.
As to another such great president, we might be very blessed with any number of our candidates. But no one will ever be him. Hard act to follow.
I confess one reason I appreciate President Obama so much - he just makes me happier.
Transcripts are always my favorite when wingnuts are involved.
I confess I can't bear to listen to their voices anymore or even look at their pictures too long. I think it would make me go blind.
Always dream with one eye open, my friend.
The haters, including faux-dems, won't ever let up. If a meteor was about to strike the earth and President Obama made a giant basketball leap into the air to catch and deflect the death-dealing rock, it still wouldn't be enough. The ones who hate him now always have and always will no matter what. They're insanely drunk on it.
Same question and response as I gave the other guy.
Read my remarks w/o coloring them with your own thoughts. That's neither good form nor perceptive.
At the risk of puffing up your ego too much, I'll ask just exactly what do YOU consider Putin to be? I know how the world in general perceives him (my original point) and also what he considers himself.
Do be a good boy and finish your thought: what do YOU consider him to be? Not that it will change realitiy one iota.
Remember how easy it is for us to sit on the sidelines and armchair quarterback.
President Obama's in quite a different situation. He has to do what he can to nudge the country forward, and the Willfull Idiocracy can only be prodded so hard before they stampede in an even worse panic. Even so, President Obama has done a great job against insanely savage opposition. In his heart of hearts, I believe, he's far less centrist than some misperceive him to be.
Yes, I have one of those coffee mugs with his picture and birth certificate.
It reads, Made in the USA.
But I can't bear to use it for coffee. What if I dropped or chipped it? What if this, what if that? So it sits safely on my desk where I use it as a pen holder.
True; although social media has been the vehicle of mass social change and even
outright revolution, it can also harbor delusions of grandeur.
I meant no insult to the young although they are more likely to be the means of revolution rather than its true leaders. Revolution is necessary and unavoidable. But sometimes older heads who've seen a lifetime of history are more aware that revolution always eats its children. Better the kind that comes from persuasion than violence and that builds rather than destroys. The explosive kind cannot be controlled. But if we don't get more equality and justice in this country, that's the kind that inevitably will happen. And then it's Katie bar the door.
