There was an old campaign song years ago which for me still applies:

"I'm Just Wild About Harry"

Really. I know knuckledraggers like to ridicule him and abuse him almost as much as the President. But he's still there. Like a Timex watch, takes a lickin' and keeps on tickin'. It will be a sad day when he retires.

Can't say I approve altering masterpieces at all.

Having been lucky enough to travel a bit and live for extended periods in both NYC and Los Angeles, I benefited greatly from exposure to art at some of the world's great museums, which I consider almost holy in nature.

The best interpretation of a Ruebens I ever heard, though, was uttered by my 2-yr-old son as we faced a huge painting of a nude reclining on a couch, only partly draped by white cloth. He took his thumb out of his mouth and announced, "Look, mommy - that lady's getting her diapers changed!" Brought the house down, he did.

But when the King Tut exhibit reached L.A., I experienced an epiphany. Of course I'd seen beautiful depictions of the mask all my life, and I knew it would be breathtaking. When I faced the real thing, however, it mesmerized me. Once the limited time was up, a smiling guard came over and gently took me by the arm to lead me away. I complied readily enough, but I walked backward at her side, staring as long as possible. It was like the thing had magical powers.

I think if I faced their awful approaching fate, I'd drink too! Like a fish!

But I can't find one drop of sympathy or pity for these savages. They deserve the worst we can deal out to them. Then they'll have to face their masters and take a beating for their failure and all that wasted $. It would be like reporting back to ScrewHook that they failed. No mercy at that seat.

President Obama's charming good looks definitely draws Rethug ire, but

I don't believe that's the main stick in their craw. It wouldn't matter if a Democratic president were albino; the GOP has been on a greed-maddened mission of destruction ever since FDR at least. If they truly loved this country as they falsely claim, they would have more faith in We the People to live in peace, harmony, security and plenty. As it is, they worship ONLY $ and power, so anyone not under their boot heel presents a danger to them. They're terrified if they don't grab everything in sight, someone will take away some (or all!) of what they do have. In other words, they're souless, craven cowards.

If they've read any history at all, they have now caused enough destruction to earn the devastating end that history will eventually grant them. As for me, I say it can't come a moment too soon. They're the most contemptible bunch of wretches to darken the sun in ages.

Everything POSSIBLE has been done; if you want to carp about what remains,

go ahead. But I'm done reading you. If President Obama walked on water, you'd be the first to yell, "Hey, look! He can't even swim!"

Where is President Obama on all this?

All over tv, that's where. Where have you been yourself? In a self-woven cocoon? Listen and you shall hear.

About IrishAyes

Still an ardent Irish-American Catholic damnYankee Yellow Dog Democrat socialist after all these years. (cue Simon music) Army brat and wife for many years, now have been on the loose far longer than I was married. After my two red chows died, I took in a mini-beagle cross that I named Molly Maguire, thinking she might need a good Irish name like my original real one. Later she got a baby sister, a smooth-coat JRT I named Brigid after the greatest of the ancient Celtic goddesses. My great-grandfather and his son fought for Michael Collins and barely made it out of Ireland one step ahead of John Bull. They slipped over to Wales for new identities and then forward to the States for a fresh start. That makes me second generation of illegal but certainly justified immigrants. There are precious few people to whose defense I fly immediately, but the list includes Hillary Clinton, President Barack Obama even when I disagree with him - it happens! - and living Irish patriots Gerry Adams and Martin \\\'Mind Your Kneecaps\\\' McGuiness. I pray earnestly for a united and free Ireland rescued from all official British occupation, with every square inch of alleged \\\'ancestral lands\\\' now held immorally and illegally by the invaders returned to the rightful owners. Irish-only rule for Ireland. No foreign masters anymore! I find it passing strange when Brits chide ME about \'interfering\' in Irish politics!
