The feds who snagged state Sen. Leland Yee and former San Francisco school board President Keith Jackson on corruption charges are casting an even wider net - reaching all the way to San Francisco and Oakland city halls.
Multiple sources tell us that an FBI operative posing as an Atlanta developer approached at least two San Francisco supervisors and two Oakland City Council members in recent months, saying he was looking for business opportunities.
The undercover operative showed up in the Bay Area waving around a multimillion-dollar letter of credit and bragging that he had access to even more money, according to sources connected to the case.
The operative said he was looking to land any number of development deals - including rehab work for Section 8 housing in San Francisco and possibly a five-star hotel near the Coliseum complex in Oakland.

Obama defends Malaysia rights stance
Source: BBC
US President Barack Obama has defended his decision not to meet Malaysia's jailed opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim during his trip to Kuala Lumpur.
Mr Obama said the decision did not indicate a lack of concern, and said that he and Prime Minister Najib Razak had spoken about human rights.
The US had condemned Mr Anwar's sodomy conviction as politically motivated.
Meanwhile, the two leaders have agreed to upgrade diplomatic ties to a "comprehensive partnership".

Report: Appeals Court Judges Violated Ethics Laws
Source: AP
More than a dozen federal appeals court judges have violated federal conflict-of-interest laws over the past three years, throwing into doubt decisions in 26 cases, according to an analysis from a watchdog group.
The Center for Public Integrity, in a report being released Monday, found 24 cases in which judges ruled despite owning stock in a company appearing before them. In two other cases, the judges had financial ties to law firms representing one of the parties.
When informed of the conflicts, all 16 judges sent letters to the parties involved in the cases, disclosing the violations. Several judges said their failure to withdraw from the cases was an oversight, the report said. Some of the judges had conflicts in more than one case.

Mike Honda says he’s not going to move into his district
When Rep. Mike Honda was asked Sunday whether he planned to move and buy a house inside the boundaries of his recently redrawn 17th Congressional District, he gave an answer that likely resonates with plenty of his Silicon Valley neighbors.
He wont do it, he told The Chronicle editorial board.
I cant afford to move from my home, he quipped.
The Bay Areas soaring cost of living is just one of the concerns the 72-year-old Democrat said he wants to deal with if hes elected to his eighth term in Congress this November, he said during the hour-long discussion.
Despite winning re-election with 73 percent of the vote in 2012, another trip to Washington is no guarantee. Honda is being challenged in the June 3 primary by a fellow Democrat, 37-year-old Ro Khanna, a well-financed Silicon Valley attorney. If they finish one-two in June, theyll meet again in the November general election.
Khanna and his supporters, many of whom formerly backed Honda, arguethe high-tech industry needs more aggressive representation in Washington.

Three burned in downtown Burger King grease fire
Three people were burned in a grease fire Sunday that erupted in the kitchen of a downtown San Francisco Burger King restaurant.
Just before 2:15 p.m., workers said they heard a rumbling coming from the ventilation hood in the kitchen of the restaurant on Powell Street near Market Street. Then all at once, flames shot from the overhead vents, employees said.
"Everything started filling with smoke. The cashiers jumped over the counter and ran outside," said 23-year-old John Paul Araujo, who was standing nearby when the fire broke out. "I was just shocked. It caught me off guard."
Two of the people burned were taken to the hospital with minor injuries, said San Francisco Fire Battalion Chief Marty Ross. Everyone else made it out of the restaurant safely.

New tape: NBA owner Sterling told girlfriend, 'In Israel, blacks are treated like dogs'
In the original, shorter tape released Friday by the TMZ website, which has caused a storm in the United States, Sterling is heard at a game complaining to his black-Mexican girlfriend, V. Stiviano, after seeing that she'd posted Instagrams of herself with black former basketball star Magic Johnson. "Don't bring black people" to the Clippers games, he tells her. It bothers me a lot that you want to broadcast that youre associating with black people. Do you have to?
In the new, 15-minute tape released Sunday by the U.S. website Deadspin, Sterling, 80, is heard telling Stiviano, 38, "You think I'm a racist " which Stiviano denies. He insists that that's what she thinks, that he has an "evil heart," to which she replies, "I don't think so. I think you have an amazing heart, honey, I think the people around you have poison mind, and have a way of thinking."
At that point Sterling - born to American Jewish immigrant parents as Donald Tokowitz seemingly tries to defend his views by putting them in an international context, singling out how blacks are treated in Israel.
Sterling: "It's the world! You go to Israel, the blacks are just treated like dogs."
Stiviano: "So you have to treat them like that too?"
Sterling: "The white Jews, there's white Jews and black Jews, do you understand?"
Stiviano: "Are are the black Jews less than the white Jews?"
Sterling: "A hundred percent, fifty, a hundred percent."
Stiviano: "And is that right?"
Sterling: "It isn't a question we don't evaluate what's right and wrong, we live in a society. We live in a culture. We have to live within that culture."

U.S. Beefs Up Military Options for China as Obama Reassures Allies in Asia
Source: Wall Street Journal
The U.S. military has prepared options for a muscular response to any future Chinese provocations in the South and East China seas, ranging from displays of B-2 bomber flights near China to aircraft-carrier exercises near its coastal waters, officials said.
The menu of options, described by officials briefed on the action plan, reflects concerns that U.S. allies in Asia have questions about the Obama administration's commitments to its security obligations, particularly after Russia's seizure of the Crimean peninsula.
The security question has closely followed President Barack Obama in recent days during his four-country Asian trip.
Washington's closest allies in Asia have told American counterparts that Crimea is seen as a possible litmus test of what Washington will do if China attempted a similar power grab in the South China and East China seas, according to current and former U.S. officials.
