"Franken wants Sessions to answer two demands by Friday..."

Jeff Sessions Didn’t Tell Al Franken The Truth. Now Franken Has Some New Questions.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/jeff-sessions-al-franken-questions_us_58b8bd27e4b0b998941653c0?ut7ioonyfixuma38fr&

In a letter Franken sent to Sessions Thursday, Franken said he found if hard to believe the Russian efforts in the election did not come up in Sessions’ conversations.

“In July 2016, more than four months after endorsing then-candidate Trump, you delivered remarks during the Republican National Convention at an event hosted by the Heritage Foundation. Following your speech, you were approached by a small group of ambassadors, including Ambassador Kislyak,” Franken wrote. “The ambassador later pulled you aside and engaged you in private conversation. The notion that this conversation, which took place during your party’s nominating convention, would not have touched upon issues related to the campaign strains credulity.”

Franken wants Sessions to answer two demands by Friday:

1. In the seven weeks following your confirmation hearing, why did you fail to clarify that you had indeed communicated on more than one occasion with the Russian Ambassador during the 2016 presidential campaign until the Washington Post exposed those interactions?

2. Describe in detail any and all communications between yourself and Russian officials and their associates during the presidential campaign of 2016, including but not limited to in-person conversations, phone calls, meetings, and electronic communications. Also include any such communications between members of your staff, including your Senate staff and any staff that assisted you during the campaign, and Russian officials and their associates.

A STIRRING and PATRIOTIC defense of Sessions from Trump, which he most surely DID NOT WRITE.

Too many multisyllabic words and complete sentences. My guess is that this came from Miller, "emulating" Trump's Twitter style.

John Cornyn defends Sessions: "I don't accept that as true" #PecanSandies #FudgeStripes

Even after Attorney General Jeff Sessions on Thursday recused himself from any investigations into possible links between Trump’s campaign and the Russian government, GOP senators said questions of Cabinet members’ dishonesty were overblown. Several senators outright rejected the notion that Sessions and fellow Trump nominees Scott Pruitt, Tom Price and Steven Mnuchin had given misleading answers on Capitol Hill.

“I don’t accept that as true,” Senate Majority Whip John Cornyn (R-Texas) said, rejecting the idea that any of Trump’s Cabinet picks had misled the public. “You’re just making this up as you go along?” he asked, before quickly turning and walking into his office.

I hate the fuckin Eagles, man. Don Henley said it was OVER when Glenn Frey died, but guess what?

Eagles and Fleetwood Mac will headline a pair of new music festivals to take place on the east and west coasts this summer.

According to Billboard, the two veteran bands will top the New York- and Los Angeles-based Classic East and Classic West concerts. While no official word has been announced on these shows, Billboard reports that they will take place at Citi Field in New York and at Dodgers Stadium in California.

Organizers undoubtedly saw the money taken in last year by the two-weekend Desert Trip festival, which featured performances by some of classic-rock’s biggest names, including the Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Paul McCartney, Neil Young, Roger Waters and the Who.

This will be the Eagles’ first live performance since the death of co-founder Glenn Frey in January 2016. Don Henley, the only original member left in the band these days, previously said the Eagles were breaking up following Frey’s death. But the Eagles have broken up before, and that didn’t stick either.

Oh NO! Even sweet, innocent JARED falls under the spell of the Russian taint. #Sad! #BuyIvanka!

NEW BOMBSHELL: Jared Kushner and Mike Flynn met with the Russians in December

The New York Times said on Thursday afternoon that Pres. Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner and disgraced former National Security Adviser Gen. Mike Flynn met with Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak in December between Trump’s election and his inauguration.

The White House made the stunning admission less than an hour after Attorney Gen. Jeff Sessions recused himself from investigations of Russian meddling in the 2016 election.

"I should have slowed down and said I did meet a couple of times with one Russian Ambassador"

Final statement in Sessions presser before he bolted from the stage.

Senator Franken's question "surprised" him and he took it to mean "Did you meet continuously with the Russians?"

Mother Jones asked three constitutional law professors if Sessions could be prosecuted for perjury.

Can Jeff Sessions Be Prosecuted for Perjury?
We asked three constitutional law professors. Here's what they said.

The answer is not exactly cut and dry. At the time of his confirmation hearings, Sessions was still serving as a senator from Alabama. The Constitution's Speech or Debate Clause shields lawmakers from prosecution for lying during proceedings in the House or Senate. The clause was written with the intent to foster debate in Congress without the threat of lawsuits stifling discussion. So, since Sessions was a sitting Senator when he allegedly misled Congress, does that mean he's off the hook? Mother Jones put the question to three constitutional law experts.

"There might be other things he can be prosecuted for," says Josh Chafetz, a law professor at Cornell University, referencing laws that allow Congress to hold individuals in contempt for providing false testimony. But, says Chafetz, Sessions can't be prosecuted for perjury.

Harvard law professor Laurence Tribe sees it differently. "That would be a laughable misuse of the Speech and Debate Clause," he says. "He was testifying under oath as an (Attorney General) nominee, not in the discharge of any Senatorial business of his own."

Yale Law Professor Bruce Ackerman says he's inclined to believe that Sessions is not protected by the clause. Still, Ackerman says there's no decisive case law on the issue, which muddies the waters. "Only one thing is clear," he says, "Sessions must recuse himself, and it is incumbent on the Administration to appoint a special prosecutor."
