Washington (CNN)First lady Melania Trump on Wednesday will make her first public appearance in front of press cameras, 26 days since she last did so on May 10, her communications director Stephanie Grisham confirmed to CNN.

Trump will join President Donald Trump for a visit to Federal Emergency Management Agency Headquarters in Washington for a briefing to discuss preparedness ahead of the 2018 hurricane season, which officially began on June 1.

The first lady attended a Monday event at the White House with the President, honoring more than 40 Gold Star Families. It was her public debut since having a medical procedure for a benign kidney condition on May 14. The Monday event was closed to the press, however.

“On Tuesday, May 31, the team notified the White House of 81 individuals, including players, coaches and management, and support personnel, who attend the event,” Sanders said in the statement. “Late Friday, citing the fact that many players would not be in attendance, the team contacted the White House again, and attempted to reschedule the event.”

According to Sanders, Trump could not reschedule the event do to overseas travel.

“The White House, despite sense a lack of good faith, nonetheless attempted to work with the Eagles over the weekend to change the event [to a] format that could accommodate a smaller group of players,” she added. “Unfortunately, the Eagles offered to send only a tiny handful of representatives, while making clear that a great majority of players would not attend the event, despite planning to be in D.C. today.”

“In other words, the vast majority of the Eagles team decided to abandon their fans,” Sanders said.

The other evening I was on a cable news show to cover the latest Russia news of the day—and I had an epiphany.

We were talking about a recent scoop from Michael Isikoff, the co-author of my latest book, Russian Roulette. He had reported that a Spanish prosecutor had handed the FBI wiretapped transcripts of a Russian official who was suspected of money laundering and for years had been trying to gain influence within the American conservative movement and the National Rifle Association. We then discussed a New York Times article revealing that Michael Cohen, Donald Trump’s longtime fixer, had met with a Russian oligarch in January 2017, around the time a US company affiliated with this tycoon began making $500,000 in payments to Cohen. Next we turned to the latest in the so-called Spygate nonscandal—the false claim, championed by Trump and his defenders, that the FBI infiltrated a spy into his presidential campaign for political purposes.

Then the show moved on. We had spent 15 or so minutes on these important developments, delving into the details—but without referring to the essence of the story. And it hit me: Though it’s clear Trump’s presidency has been hobbled by the Russia scandal, the manner in which this matter plays out in the media has helped Trump.

Almost every day, Trump pushes out a simple (and dishonest) narrative via tweets and public remarks: The Russia investigation is a…well, you know, a witch hunt. Or a hoax. Or fake news. He blasts out the same exclamations daily: Witch hunt, hoax! Hoax, witch hunt! That’s his mantra.

Eagles star shames Fox News for twisting photo of him praying to spread Trump ‘propaganda’



Zach Ertz, the star tight end of the Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles, slammed Fox News on Tuesday for using footage of him praying with his teammates to make it look like they were kneeling during the national anthem.

A Fox News segment that aired Tuesday morning used multiple photos of Eagles players kneeling on the football field. However, these players were not kneeling during the national anthem and were actually praying before the start of the game.

In fact, no Eagles knelt during the national anthem during the 2017 NFL season.

Ertz watched the segment and reacted angrily to photos of him and his teammates being ripped out of context.
