Mother Jones Asked Chelsea Residents: Who Will Make You Safer, Clinton or Trump?

Residents and workers along 23rd Street near 7th Avenue were getting on with life Monday afternoon, as police oversaw a complicated crime scene nearby. Meanwhile, presidential candidates Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump engaged in a war of words over terrorism, and over who would make Americans feel safer. "They are looking to make this into a war against Islam, rather than a war against jihadists, violent terrorists," Clinton said about potential terrorists attacking America. "The kinds of rhetoric and language Mr. Trump has used is giving aid and comfort to our adversaries."

Trump, on the other hand, blamed immigration: "These attacks, and many others, were made possible because of our extremely open immigration system."

Residents and workers in Chelsea, however, completely rejected Trump's hardline immigration policy as a solution to future terrorist attacks. "Of course, Clinton—I feel that she can do a better job of protecting us," Swope said. "She has a much more level-headed personality."

Jane Nelson, who was visiting a friend in Chelsea, was even blunter: "He knows nothing."

Internet hammers ‘exploitative scumbag’ Donald Trump for capitalizing on New York bombing

Internet hammers ‘exploitative scumbag’ Donald Trump for capitalizing on New York bombing

http://www.rawstory.com/2016/09/internet-hammers-exploitative-scumbag-donald-trump-for-capitalizing-on-new-york-bombing/

Moments after New York news services announced a loud explosion in the Chelsea area — and well before first responders began investigating — Trump told a crowd of rabid supporters, “Just before I got off the plane, a bomb went off in New York and nobody knows exactly what’s going on, but we are living in a time when we’ve got to get very tough, folks. We’ve got to get very, very tough.”

“It’s a terrible thing that’s going on in our world and in our country and we are going to get tough and smart and vigilant,” he added. “We’re gonna end it. We’re gonna end it.”

Reports of Trump’s off-the-cuff and alarming remarks infuriated Twitter users — particularly commenters who live in New York and stood by watching investigators do their work as life in Manhattan continued on.

Leading the pack was commentator Keith Olbermann, who called the GOP presidential candidate an “exploitative scumbag,” writing, “Dear @RealDonaldTrump: I’m sorry the explosion in Chelsea scared you so much when everybody IN Chelsea seems fine #YouExploitativeScumbag”

An Inmate Died Of Thirst In Milwaukee County Jail, Run By Loudly Pro-Trump Sheriff David A. Clarke

An Inmate Died Of Thirst In A Jail Run By A Loudly Pro-Trump Sheriff

WASHINGTON ― Authorities have ruled the death of an inmate at a jail run by a top law enforcement supporter of GOP nominee Donald Trump a homicide caused by “profound dehydration.”

Terrill Thomas, 38, was found dead in a Milwaukee County Jail cell on April 24, nine days after being arrested in connection with a shooting. Other inmates heard Thomas beg for water in the days before he died, the Journal Sentinel reported in July.

Last week the Milwaukee County medical examiner announced that Thomas’ death was due to profound dehydration, according to the Journal Sentinel. By labeling the death a homicide, the medical examiner indicated that it was caused by the actions of another person, although that judgment does not necessarily mean that anyone will be criminally prosecuted in the case.

The Milwaukee County Jail is run by Sheriff David A. Clarke Jr., an outspoken Trump supporter and critic of the Black Lives Matter movement. Clarke, who is technically a Democrat, has become popular in conservative circles in recent years for his specific criticism of President Barack Obama and more general critiques of liberalism. A recent disclosure form revealed that Clarke took in more than $150,000 in speaking fees, travel reimbursements and gifts in 2015.

RIP Jerry Corbetta, Lead Singer for Sugarloaf ("Green Eyed Lady")

http://ultimateclassicrock.com/jerry-corbetta-sugarloaf-dies/

Jerry Corbetta of Sugarloaf, best known for their 1970 smash, “Green-Eyed Lady,” died on Sept. 16 in Denver. He was 68.

He’d been diagnosed with Pick’s disease, which slowly destroys the nerve cells in the brain similarly to Alzheimer’s disease. The condition forced him into retirement upon diagnosis in 2009.

Originally a drummer, where he gained fame around Denver as a child, he switched to keyboards in his teen years, serving in a couple of bands with guitarist Bob Webber, one of which became the Moonrakers and cut four singles in the mid-‘60s. The second, Chocolate Hair, featured Corbetta, Webber and another ex-Moonraker, bassist Bob Raymond. They eventually picked up drummer Bob MacVittie and got signed to Liberty Records.

But before their debut could be released, the label requested the band change their name due to the potential for “Chocolate Hair” to be seen as racially insensitive. They decided to honor their Colorado roots and name themselves after Sugarloaf Mountain, which is near Boulder, Colo.

Donald Trump Jr. Casually Makes A Holocaust Joke

Donald Trump Jr. Casually Makes A Holocaust Joke

Donald Trump’s son, a primary surrogate for his presidential candidacy, alluded on Thursday to the mass killing of Jewish people in Nazi Germany while laying out what he sees as a media double standard in campaign coverage.

In an interview with Chris Stigall on Talk Radio 1210 WPHT, Donald Trump Jr. made the argument that Republicans would be punished if they lied or schemed in fashions similar to Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton’s campaign. And then he decided to talk about gas chambers.

“The media has been her number one surrogate in this. Without the media, this wouldn’t even be a contest, but the media has built her up,” Trump Jr said. “They’ve let her slide on every indiscrepancy (sic), on every lie, on every DNC game trying to get Bernie Sanders out of this thing. If Republicans were doing that, they’d be warming up the gas chamber right now.”

Trump Jr. has gone down similar paths before. As the group RightWingWatch noted, he has “posted an image to Instagram that included “Pepe the frog,” which, according to the Southern Poverty Law Center, is a meme “constantly used by white supremacists” and “appeared on a radio show with James Edwards, host of the white supremacist radio show Political Cesspool.”

BREAKING: Corey Lewandowski still sucks, still lies, still says "I don't know" when told the truth

Corey Lewandowski Tried To Smear A Reporter. It Did Not Go Well.

Lewandowski claimed that the author of the report, Kurt Eichenwald, said that former President George W. Bush was connected to the Sept. 11 attacks.

“This is the same individual who said that he has information that George W. Bush was directly related to the 9/11 terrorist attack. This is the same individual who refused to fact check this story with the Trump organization,” Lewandowski said on CNN, where he is a paid contributor even though he is still advising the Trump campaign.

Later in the segment, CNN’s Alisyn Camerota came back to Lewandowski’s claim and pointed out that it was false. Eichenwald had written that Bush ignored warnings of a terrorist attack before Sept. 11, not that he was involved in the attacks.

Despite being presented with the facts, Lewandowski was undeterred. “I don’t know, is that true or not?,” he asked. Christine Quinn, who was appearing with Lewandowski, correctly pointed out that the 9/11 Commission did find that Bush had been warned of a potential attack.

Teen appears in court accused of planning mass-casualty nail bomb attack at Elton John concert

Teen appears in court accused of planning mass-casualty nail bomb attack on Buckingham Palace and Elton John

https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/1777657/een-appears-in-court-accused-of-planning-mass-casualty-nail-bomb-attack-on-palace-and-elton-john/

A PLOT to nail bomb crowds at an Elton John gig and at Buckingham Palace would have been on the scale of 7/7, a court heard yesterday.

Student Haroon Ali Syed’s terror plan was allegedly inspired by IS and is also said to have targeted London’s busy Oxford Street and military bases.

The 19-year-old allegedly intended to strike at a concert by Sir Elton in London’s Hyde Park on the anniversary of 9/11.

Police believe he originally planned to be a suicide bomber, and wanted to buy machine guns or pistols to carry out a “lone wolf” killing spree.

“the boys in the band were brain dead.”

Rice: If Rumsfeld, Pentagon Had Done Their Job, Iraq Might Have Turned Out Different

Condoleezza Rice and Colin Powell exchanged emails in 2015 criticizing comments made by their former Bush administration colleague.

Powell initiated the 2015 exchange by emailing Rice, who was the national security adviser at the time of the Iraq invasion, with a link to Woodward’s comments.

“First, we didn’t invade Iraq to bring democracy — but once we overthrew Saddam, we had a view of what should follow,” Rice responded. “If Don and the Pentagon had done their job (after claiming the rights to lead post-war rebuilding—things might have turned out differently).”

“Don should just stop talking,” she added. “He puts his foot in his mouth every time.”

Powell replied by seconding Rice’s critique, saying “the boys in the band were brain dead.”
