Donald Trumps lack of access to cash hindered his presidential campaign at a crucial point, veteran journalist Bob Woodward explained in his new book Fear.
Woodward explained the crucial role of son-in-law Jared Kushner, who, without the title, was running the campaign, especially on money matters.
In August of 2016, campaign chief executive officer Steve Bannon told Kushner that the campaign desperately needed Trump to write a $50 million check to the campaign for TV ads.
He will never write a $50 million check, Kushner replied.

Woodward P. 69 Trump, after being told about the Steele dossier, later told his attorney about the alleged prostitutes in Moscow.
Trump said, "I've got enough problems with Melania and girlfriends and all that. I don't need anymore. I can't have Melania hearing about that."

Using a slower-than-normal cadence, Trump marked the day by reading a speech off of a teleprompter. The group of MSNBC pundits set a low bar for the speech and immediately praised Trump for his words and his delivery.

He focused on them, focused on the heroes, Hadley continued. He found a very powerful story, and I think its important for the American people to remind the sacrifice and the courage those men and women on that plane displayed. So I think it was a difficult moment, and I think he rose to the moment and helped the country to remember.
NBC News political reporter Josh Lederman argued that Trumps speech was successful because he did not talk about himself.
You know, Hallie this is the speech many in the White House were praying president Donald Trump would be able to give, the tone they were hoping he would be able to strike on a somber occasion like this, Lederman explained. It was sober. It was emotional. He made it about other people.
He wasnt self-reverential, the reporter added. He told personal stories, and he really allowed this day to be for other people, and I think that its going to probably go down as one of the better speeches this president has given.
