NYPD Triples The Strength Of Their Pepper Spray Because The Old Stuff Didn’t Hurt Enough

Only in the twisted minds of NYPD officials would “more powerful weapons” be a solution to prevent their officers from killing people. Sadly, this is no joke. The NYPD recently announced that they are planning to stock more powerful and potent pepper spray, and they actually claim that this would be intended to prevent police from shooting people.

The potency that has been used by the NYPD and other departments previously is already highly dangerous with a concentration of just .21% capsaicinoids. The new spray will be concentrated at .67% which will undoubtedly be more dangerous and far more painful. The NYPD has already begun rolling out the new concentration and has equipped over 19,000 officers with the new mixture.

NYPD Deputy Chief, Edward Mullen, claimed in an interview with the Daily News that a higher concentrated pepper spray would help officers subdue unruly suspects more easily.

Oregon standoff ends with last occupier surrendering

The last four remaining activists occupying a federal wildlife refuge in Oregon hinterlands have surrendered, ending the 41-day standoff with local and federal authorities. One of them held out for two hours, rambling on the internet before surrendering.
David Fry of Ohio, Jeff Banta of Nevada, and Sean and Sandy Anderson of Idaho have insisted they would only surrender if the government did not press charges.

Negotiations over their surrender to the federal agents were being mediated by Nevada state assemblywoman Michelle Fiore and televangelist Franklin Graham. An activist has broadcast the talks via a YouTube live stream.

He helped sell these worthless assets to the tune of $500 million into Ohio’s public retirement system, particularly the State Teacher’s pension funds. He made untold millions, which he refused to disclose, while looting the pensions of school teachers and public employees.

George W. Bush enriched himself by eminent domain

I have posted a couple of comments on the various New London case threads. But I decided it was worth a diary, because these two cases in one Texas city are so illustrative of how eminent domain is abused. While these two cases (one of which involves the devil) don't prove the argument, I would submit that many if not most of the thousands of projects now using this eminent domain argument vastly overstate their public benefit and vastly understate their ability to enrich the developer. George W. Bush was added to the ownership package of the Texas Rangers to enable deals like this one.

One of the most famous eminent domain cases involved the Cowboys' future home of Arlington, where baseball's Texas Rangers play. At the time, future President George W. Bush was an owner.

DALLAS - The school favored to host the George W. Bush Presidential Library, Dallas's Southern Methodist University, may encounter a snag next week in the form of a lawsuit alleging that the school has improperly seized local homes in order to secure land for the proposed library site.

Amid increasing outrage among Republicans over the use of eminent domain and other coercive measures to obtain private property for public projects, a case in Dallas County's 134th Civil District Court, which is set to begin on Tuesday, will determine whether the university violated its legal obligations to local homeowners in an effort to secure the land currently occupied by the University Gardens condominium complex, a potential library site.
"They're taking my home," said Gary Vodicka, one of the litigants and a University Gardens owner and resident, yesterday.

The case comes as the competition for the $200 million to $300 million library, which has had some schools making plans to attract the memorial since before President Bush's election in 2000, draws to a close, and could end any time in the next six weeks.

FUKUSHIMA NO. 1 NUCLEAR POWER PLANT — I entered the Tokyo Electric Power Co.’s power plant on Tuesday, just weeks before the fifth anniversary of the day of the start of the nuclear crisis following the Great East Japan Earthquake.

I looked around the precincts of the nuclear power plant from windows on the seventh floor — about 30 meters above the ground — of a nine-story building used as a rest facility for workers. The building was completed in May last year.

About 1,000 tanks storing more than 700,000 tons of contaminated water could be seen in the wide spaces in front of buildings accommodating reactors Nos. 1 to 4, where the decontamination and decommissioning work is being conducted.

A TEPCO official explained, “In 2013, the radiation dose was estimated to be about 25 sieverts (25 million microsieverts) per hour. Though about five years have passed, no measures have been taken.”
