Transport Evolved VIDEO: What's it Really Like to Drive a Hydrogen Fuel Cell Vehicle? We Find Out

October 30, 2014 By Nikki Gordon-Bloomfield

Fueling a Hydrogen Electric Car

Hydrogen fuel cell cars are, like any other alternative-fuelled car, somewhat controversial. As well as their high ticket price and currently limited refuelling infrastructure, hydrogen fuel cell cars are only as clean as the energy being used to generate the hydrogen they rely on to operate.

But if we leave the politics of hydrogen fuel cell cars and where the energy comes from to power them for a moment, what are they really like to drive in the real world?

Sadly, there are very few hydrogen fuel cell cars out in the wild at the moment, and those which are tend to be part of closely-guarded corporate fleets. Today however, as part of a press event to unveil a new solar-powered hydrogen generation plant in Swindon, UK, we were given the chance to put Honda’s ageing four-door Clarity FCX hydrogen fuel cell sedan through its paces — a car built in small numbers by Honda between 2008 and 2014 to test and evaluate hydrogen fuel cell technology...

...Today, we expected more of the same, but were pleasantly surprised to find that the car we were driving — a visiting U.S.-spec model from Honda’s German fuel cell study — was far quieter than the one we tried back in 2008. In fact, under normal acceleration, the driving experience felt very much like any other electric car: smooth, refined and relaxing, with the same kind of road noise that you’d find in any other well-built car...

UK Supermarket Chain Sainsbury's to open Hydrogen Fueling Stations

Proving wrong those who say it's a Big Oil Conspiracy.

Also proving that a Hydrogen infrastructure can be built faster and cheaper than imagined by the H2 Bashers.

First hydrogen fuel station to open at Sainsbury's branch

Sainsbury’s is to become the first supermarket to offer a hydrogen fuel dispenser alongside its usual petrol and diesel fuel pumps. Located at its Hendon store in north west London, the new hydrogen fuel pump is expected to be in place by the end of the year and will be available to the general public and fleets running fuel cell vehicles.

The new SmartFuel station will be owned and operated by Air Products, on behalf of Sainsbury’s and is being installed as part of a The London Hydrogen Network Expansion (LHNE) project, which is designed to help establish a hydrogen refuelling infrastructure in the city.

It is expected that those who will use the new refuelling facility will include hydrogen-powered buses running between Covent Garden and Tower Gateway, fuel cell delivery vans being operated by Commercial Group and hydrogen taxis which are already running on London’s roads.

Avishai Moor, Fuel & Kiosk Category Manager from Sainsbury’s said: “Hydrogen vehicles are both environmentally friendly as well as efficient so we are really excited about being the first UK supermarket to trial this new technology and make it accessible to our customers...MORE

eBay Data Center Runs Almost Entirely On Bloom Fuel Cells

Heather Clancy Forbes.com 10/02/2013

Bloom Fuel Cells

eBay is raising the bar (again) when it comes to sourcing power for massive data centers.

Its massive new facility in Salt Lake City – the main hub of technology powering more than $175 billion in annual e-commerce activity – uses fuel cells “servers” from Bloom Energy as the primary power source.

It is the first facility in the world to do so, and it’s not an insignificant amount of power. Of the 8 megawatts of power needed to run and cool the facility, 6 megawatts are being generated by five banks of Bloom Energy Servers (30 units in all). Natural gas is being used as the fuel source for the Bloom technology.

In a blog post describing the project, two of the eBay executives responsible for the project describe the rationale:

“This not only makes the commerce activity powered by this facility cleaner, but according to a new white paper released today by the University of Illinois-Urbana Champaign, it’s also expected to increase the availability and reliability of our infrastructure...

UK Telegraph: Hydrogen power coming soon

Andrew English, South Korea 29 Oct 2014

Hyundai is about to start leasing its ix35 Fuel Cell car to UK customers

The hydrogen economy is alive, well and coming soon according to Sae Hoon Kim, Hyundai’s most senior research engineer into fuel cell technology.

Citing the latest Japanese Government Basic Energy Plan, which suggests that hydrogen is a key energy carrier for Japan in future years, he says Hyundai’s fuel cell-powered ix35 SUV will surmount previous barriers to fuel cell vehicles because it will be readily available and there will be a refuelling infrastructure in place.

“It was chicken and egg,” he told Telegraph Cars. “If you did hydrogen filling stations, you couldn’t guarantee the cars [and vice versa]. Now we are keeping the production line going, so if you order the car, you can get one within three months.”

He says the Japanese energy report is a bellwether for the direction of the fuel cell industry, not just for cars, but also household electricity supply.

After the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster of March 2011, the Japanese government looked at alternatives to nuclear power...

LA Times: Carmakers prepare to shift to hydrogen fuel cells

Toyota Hydrogen Electric Fuel Cell Concept Car Interior

Carmakers prepare to shift to hydrogen fuel cells
Charles Fleming LA Times October 26,2014

Concerned about slow sales of electric cars and plug-in hybrids, automakers are increasingly betting the future of green cars on hydrogen fuel cell technology.

Even Toyota Motor Corp., maker of the popular Prius gas-electric hybrid, will use hydrogen instead of batteries to power its next generation of green vehicles.

"Today, Toyota actually favors fuel cells over other zero-emission vehicles, like pure battery electric vehicles," said Craig Scott, the company's national manager of advanced technologies. "We would like to be still selling cars when there's no more gas. And no one is coming to our door asking us to build a new electric car."...

...Hydrogen fuel cells are designed to power electric motors much the way batteries do. But instead of storing their energy in a battery pack that takes hours to recharge, the fuel-cell vehicles store hydrogen gas in an onboard tank that can be refilled in minutes, just like a gasoline tank... Poppe believes the future is hydrogen, because fuel cell vehicles address the two main shortcomings of today's battery-powered cars: short driving range and long recharging times.

Car companies agree...>

Interview: Former Georgia Rep. Cynthia McKinney, Democrat and Truther

Cynthia Ann McKinney (born March 17, 1955) is an American politician and activist. As a member of the Democratic Party, she served six terms in the United States House of representatives.

This show was broadcast on October 24, 2014.

Former six-term congresswoman and 2008 Green Party presidential candidate Cynthia McKinney is not your ordinary politician. Her uncompromising commitment to principled truth-seeking sets her apart from virtually all other federal office holders of my lifetime.

In this interview we discuss the ebola scare; the Empire’s ravages in Africa and Latin America; the “deep state” described in Peter Dale Scott’s The Road to 9/11 (Peter is on Cynthia’s dissertation committee – she’s finishing her Ph.D. work on Hugo Chavez); false flag events including 9/11; and whether Dr. Cynthia McKinney may run for president one of these years.

Rep. McKinney references the despicable Clinton glee at hearing of the death of Gaddafi. Here is that clip:

^That's the "Chief Diplomat" of the United States of America
Thomas Jefferson Rolls in his grave

"Truther" Cynthia McKinney and the 9/11 Commission

Initially, McKinney kept a low profile upon her return to Congress. However, on July 22, 2005, the first anniversary of the release of the 9/11 Commission Report, McKinney held a briefing on Capitol Hill to address alleged outstanding issues regarding the 2001 attacks on the US.

The day-long briefing featured family members of victims, scholars, former intelligence officers and others who critiqued the 9/11 Commission account of 9/11 and its recommendations.

The four morning panels addressed flaws, omissions, and a lack of historical and political analysis in the commission's report. Three afternoon panels critiqued the commission's recommendations in the areas of foreign and domestic policy and intelligence reform.

An Atlanta Journal-Constitution editorial maintained that the purpose of the event was to discuss whether or not the Bush administration was involved in the 9/11 attacks, expressing surprise that McKinney was once again taking on the issue that was widely believed to have cost her her House seat.

Of course the 28 censored pages show that Rep. McKinney was right to question everything. I'd walk across broken glass to vote for Rep. McKinney. Real Hope and Real Change.

UK: MS Sufferers DENIED £500 a Month Cannabis Based Sativex® + Video: Inside GW Pharma

thehighcommunity.co.uk October 16, 2014

Sativex, a UK produced prescription pain relief drug for multiple sclerosis sufferers, has been rejected by the medical institute ironically named NICE for its huge price tag.

About 100,000 people in the UK (1.2million worldwide) suffer from MS (Multiple Sclerosis). It “involves an immune-mediated process in which an abnormal response of the body’s immune system is directed against the central nervous system (CNS), which is made up of the brain, spinal cord and optic nerves.

Within the CNS, the immune system attacks myelin — the fatty substance that surrounds and insulates the nerve fibres — as well as the nerve fibres themselves. The damaged myelin forms scar tissue (sclerosis), which gives the disease its name...

What is Sativex® and why is it so important in the treatment of MS?

Sativex® (nabiximols) is a cannabinoid prescription medicine (delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol, cannabidiol) for the treatment of spasticity due to multiple sclerosis; (it’s also in development for the treatment of cancer pain and other neuropathic pain). It has been launched by GW Pharmaceuticals (UK), in 11 countries (including the UK, Spain, Italy and Germany) and approved in a further 13...

Home made hydrogen fuel cells for your house may be the answer to SA’s energy crisis

Adam Oxford htxt.co.za

Fuel cell manufacturer Ballard is working closely with Anglo American and has one village in South Africa running off-grid already

Funny thing about Africa: 70% of its inhabitants don’t have access to electricity, but it doesn’t make those of us who suffer at the hands of Eskom any more grateful for our lot. Who hasn’t dreamed of ditching unreliable, expensive grid power for something more cost effective and self sufficient?

While the recent focus on solving the energy crisis in South Africa has been on nuclear reactors sourced from Russia and France, one man thinks the solution is much closer to home. Your home in fact. In around 18 months or so he hopes to have commercialised a domestic generator based on solar power, hydrogen storage and fuel cells that will cost somewhere in the region of R80 000 – which means it would pay for itself in around seven or eight years at current electricity prices (less if you factor in annual increases from Eskom).

And this isn’t some mad, hair brained scheme from the fringes, either: it’s the current focus of Andy Brauer, chief technology officer (CTO) for Business Connexion (BCX). About five years ago, he explains, he approached the company’s board with an idea for off-grid power generation. And then proceeded to explain why it should be core to – what is, to outsiders at least – an IT business...

...It’s a peer-to-peer model which, Brauer says, mimics the way the rest of the economy is developing. Small, interlinked networks are replacing top down structures in everything from organising protests to industrial supply chains to corporate org charts.“Eighty percent of the problems have been solved,” he says, citing research into more efficient solar technologies and nano-sized fuel cells. “To use an analogy, when the Americans wanted to write in space they spent millions of dollars developing a special pen which works in zero gravity. The Russians said ‘just use a pencil’. My philosophy is to look for the pencil in the problem.”..
