No meat at 'Noah' party

http://pagesix.com/2014/03/28/no-meat-at-noah-party/?_ga=1.163366773.814746388.1395973567

Where’s the beef? That’s what the carnivores were wondering as they arrived at the Boathouse in Central Park for the “Noah” party.

The buffet tables were loaded with various forms of edible vegetable matter, but there was no meat, fish or cheese — because director Darren Aronofsky is vegan, as was the hero of his biblical epic, as played by Russell Crowe.

To underscore the point in the movie, which also stars Emma Watson and Jennifer Connelly, villain Tubal-cain (Ray Winstone) eagerly bites the head off an unidentified reptile and devours it raw. Meat = evil. Got it.

As hungry Boathouse guests bellied up to the bar for liquid nourishment, I wondered, why did Noah go to all that trouble to save the animals, if not to eat at least some of them?

Michigan Passes Short Barreled Rifle and Shotgun Legalization

http://www.minews26.com/content/?p=30595

...And Senate Bill 610 allows for the manufacture, possession or transfer of short-barreled shotguns or rifles in compliance with federal law. An owner needs to keep the federal registration for their firearm accessible, and present it to law enforcement when requested during transport. The bill is now Public Act 63 of 2014.

It's nice to see another state liberalizing the laws which restrict ownership of short barreled shotguns and rifles, and bringing them in line with Federal law.

Ted Cruz tells home-schooled kids: The ‘job of a chaplain is to be insensitive to atheists’

http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2014/03/19/ted-cruz-tells-home-schooled-kids-the-job-of-a-chaplain-is-to-be-insensitive-to-atheists/

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) on Tuesday explained to a group of children that atheists in the United States were working to take away their religious freedoms. Speaking at the Network of Iowa Christian Home Educators, Cruz told parents and children as young as 3 that “school choice is the civil rights issue of the 21st century.”

Cruz repeated a conspiracy theory that the Convention on the Rights of the Child would allow the United Nations to take parenting decisions away from Americans. “Nothing in international law, nothing in any treaty should be used as a backdoor vehicle to undermine the rights of every parent here to raise your children consistent with your faith, with your good judgement and the love you have for your children,” he said.

The possible 2016 Republican presidential candidate went on to cite a series of cases to assert that atheists were trying to destroy religious freedom in the United States. “We have never seen an administration with such hostility to religious faith,” Cruz opined. “You know, last year, there was a chaplain in the Air Force up in Alaska who wrote in a blog post the phrase ‘There are no atheists in fox holes.’ He was ordered by his supervising officer to take it down.”

“I guess it was deemed insensitive to atheists. I kind of thought it was the job of a chaplain to be insensitive to atheists.” After a round of applause, the senator added: “To welcome them into the forgiving arms of a loving god.”
