NPR Interview with Clinton Emerges: ‘My Roots Are Conservative, I’m Proud I Was a Goldwater Girl’

A 1996 NPR interview with Hillary Clinton has recently resurfaced, in which the current Democratic front-runner shockingly embraced conservatism and reiterated how proud she was to support a segregationist presidential candidate.

In the interview, Clinton told NPR’s Scott Simon that her political beliefs were “rooted in the conservatism that I was raised with,” and talked about being a “Goldwater girl” in 1964:

Hillary Clinton Is Backed by Major Republican Donors

((Hence all of the "free stuff" derision from Hillary lately? Trying to squeeze some more money out of those Romney donors? ~ JP))

Hillary Clinton Is Backed by Major Republican Donors

An analysis of Federal Election Commission records, by TIME, which was published on 23 October 2015, showed that the 2012 donors to Romney’s campaign were already donating more to Hillary Clinton’s 2016 campaign than they had been donating to any one of the 2016 campaigns of — listed here in declining order below Clinton — Lindsey Graham, Rand Paul, Carly Fiorina, Chris Christie, Rick Perry, Mike Huckabee, Donald Trump, Bobby Jindal, Rick Santorum, George Pataki, or Jim Gilmore. Those major Romney donors also gave a little to two Democrats (other than to Hillary — who, as mentioned, received a lot of donations from these Republican donors): Martin O’Malley, Jim Web, and Lawrence Lessig. (Romney’s donors gave nothing to Bernie Sanders, and nothing to Elizabeth Warren. They don’t want either of those people to become President.)

Clinton is the only Democratic candidate who is even moderately attractive to big Republican donors.

In ascending order above Clinton, Romney’s donors were donating to: John Kasich, Scott Walker, Ben Carson, Marco Rubio, Ted Cruz, and Jeb Bush. The top trio — of Bush, Cruz, and Rubio — together, received around 60% of all the money donated for the 2016 race by the people who had funded Mitt Romney’s 2012 drive for the White House.

So: the Democrat Hillary Clinton scored above 14 candidates, and below 6 candidates. She was below 6 Republican candidates, and she was above 11 Republican candidates (Lindsey Graham, Rand Paul, Carly Fiorina, Chris Christie, Rick Perry, Mike Huckabee, Donald Trump, Bobby Jindal, Rick Santorum, George Pataki, and Jim Gilmore). The 6 candidates she scored below were: Jeb Bush, Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio, Ben Carson, Scott Walker, and John Kasich.

Hillary Clinton and the Dogs of War - ConsortiumNews.com

February 19, 2016

Former Secretary of State Clinton grudgingly admits her Iraq War vote was a “mistake,” but it was not a one-off misjudgment. Clinton has consistently stood for a war-like U.S. foreign policy that ignores international law and relies on brinkmanship and military force, writes Nicolas J S Davies.

By Nicolas J S Davies

A poll taken in Iowa before the presidential caucus found that 70 percent of Democrats surveyed trusted Hillary Clinton on foreign policy more than Bernie Sanders. But her record as Secretary of State was very different from that of her successor, John Kerry, who has overseen groundbreaking diplomatic breakthroughs with Iran, Cuba and, in a more limited context, even with Russia and Syria.

In fact, Clinton’s use of the term “diplomacy” in talking about her own record is idiosyncratic in that it refers almost entirely to assembling “coalitions” to support U.S. threats, wars and sanctions against other countries, rather than to peacefully resolving international disputes without the threat or use of force, as normally understood by the word “diplomacy” and as required by the UN Charter.

There is another term for what Clinton means when she says “diplomacy,” and that is “brinksmanship,” which means threatening war to back up demands on other governments. In the real world, brinksmanship frequently leads to war when neither side will back down, at which point its only value or purpose is to provide a political narrative to justify aggression.

The two main “diplomatic” achievements Clinton gives herself credit for are: assembling the coalition of NATO and the Arab monarchies that bombed Libya into endless, intractable chaos; and imposing painful sanctions on the people of Iran over what U.S. intelligence agencies concluded by 2007 was a peaceful civilian nuclear program.

Hillary Clinton’s Mega-Donors Are Also Funding Jeb Bush

Racetrack owners, bankers, and chicken kings: Meet the ultra-rich bankrolling the Bush and Clinton dynasties. A special report by Vocativ and The Daily Beast.

For some wealthy donors, it doesn’t matter who takes the White House in 2016—as long as the president’s name is Clinton or Bush.

More than 60 ultra-rich Americans have contributed to both Jeb Bush’s and Hillary Clinton’s federal campaigns, according to an analysis of Federal Election Commission data by Vocativ and The Daily Beast. Seventeen of those contributors have gone one step further and opened their wallets to fund both Bush’s and Clinton’s 2016 ambitions.

After all, why support just Hillary Clinton or just Jeb Bush when you can hedge your bets and donate to both? This seems to be the thinking of a group of powerful men and women—racetrack owners, bankers, media barons, chicken magnates, hedge funders (and their spouses). Some of them have net worths that can eclipse the GDPs of small countries.

Got my Bernie Bumper Stickers...

Got my Bernie Sanders sticker on the car now.
This one http://www.ebay.com/itm/360808019236?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
(I liked this design. No relation to me)

I know the "Bernie!" stickers seem more numerous, but I wanted one with the last name on it for the sake of 'name recognition'... Actually it's been quite a while since I wore one for anybody.

Bumper stickers for anyone running for 2016 seem non-existent in Michigan right now. I haven't seen any at all in a long time, other than for President Obama, probably "Obama-Biden" stickers from 2008...

I guess they're a lot less popular when you have to buy them yourself, rather than getting them as a giveaway, like in the old days...

Who else is already sick of---

"Bernie can't win"

"Bernie is a socialist. Nobody I know will vote for a socialist."

"Bernie is like Ralph Nader" for contesting the Democratic primaries.

"Bernie will just weaken Hillary"

"Bernie isn't a Democrat"

"Voting for Bernie will make the Republicans win"

And maybe the worst,
"I agree with most everything Bernie says, but he doesn't stand a chance so why would I waste my vote"

Not just at D.U., quite a bit of the same on Facebook and Daily Kos also...

I guess we should just start posting.
"Hillary will just weaken Bernie, so she should get out of the race"....

Jeb Bush Supported Evangelical Anti-Gay Group With Taxpayer Money

While governor of Florida, Jeb Bush delivered a lucrative tax break to subsidize an evangelical group’s efforts to block Internet users from learning about homosexuality or accessing pornography. The taxpayer money was directed to a company owned by the American Family Association (AFA), a prominent grass-roots organization representing a social conservative base that could prove pivotal in the 2016 Republican presidential primaries.

::snip:::

$600,000 Tax Subsidy

It was May 2001, only a few years after a hot-button debate over congressional legislation aiming to censor the Internet of indecent content. Bush’s administration and Florida county officials agreed to award a $600,000 tax subsidy package to Bsafe Online, a subsidiary of the AFA. That company produced Web filter technology to prevent Internet users from seeing pornography or information about homosexual relationships or transgender identities.

“I welcome this high-tech, pro-family business to Florida,” Bush said in a news release. “As the Internet continues to influence our daily lives, parents have an increasingly difficult time monitoring what their children are exposed to on the computer. BsafeOnline.com is a great example of how the private sector can assist families to protect their children from aspects of the Internet which they deem negative.”

At the time, AFA was leading a boycott against the Walt Disney Co. for promoting the “gay agenda” and hosting “Gay Days” at its theme parks in Orlando, Florida. Liberal activists called on Bush to reverse his support for the AFA-backed company, BSafe, accusing the AFA of bigotry, recently released emails show. The organization was later labeled a “hate group” by the Southern Poverty Law Center.

:::snip:::

In 2005, Bush faced criticism from the same AFA he helped subsidize -- the group would slam him for supporting an investment in a movie rental company that distributed pornography. And leaders of the religious right have lately questioned Bush’s commitment to their agenda. Since announcing he may run for president, Bush has sought to distance himself from some of his own past statements on homosexuality. In January, he disavowed an editorial he wrote in which he argued against creating “special legal protection” for “sodomy.” A Bush spokesperson told BuzzFeed the editorial “does not reflect Gov. Bush’s views now.”

Jeb Bush as FL Gov invested $1.3 million in state pension fund money in pornography, says report

Jeb Bush invested more than $1 million from the Florida state pension fund in pornography while he was governor, a new bombshell report alleges.

The former Florida governor, while in office, invested $1.3 million from the fund into Movie Gallery, a publicly traded video rental giant that offered a wide selection of pornographic films along with mainstream movies, the International Business Times reported.

Bush, who as governor was a trustee on the board overseeing the state’s $149 billion pension system, purchased more than 47,000 shares in the company in 2005, the Times reported, citing emails it obtained from Bush’s tenure in office.

The state later sold its Movie Gallery shares in 2006 after the stock didn’t perform as well as expected. Movie Gallery, which also owned all Hollywood Video franchises, closed up shop entirely in 2010 as the video and DVD rental business model faltered amid industry changes.

However, during the time the state owned the shares, social conservatives across Flordia and the nation were outraged — a problem that could resurface for the centrist Republican as he seeks the Republican 2016 presidential nomination in a field of candidates packed with outspoken social conservatives.
